Haxus why. You can literally use the medical bay to give people abortions.
I really got my hopes up when I saw this thread back on the first page, but alas the game is still pay2play and averages only 2 people now.
Haxus why. You can literally use the medical bay to give people abortions.
Did he go completely insane ever since he made the game P2P?
I really got my hopes up when I saw this thread back on the first page, but alas the game is still pay2play and averages only 2 people now.
Haxus should've just put ads into the loading screens. I honestly wouldn't mind them that much as long as they keep the game going. Man, I'm really starting to miss this game. This was probably one of my shining moments I made this after the Klingon empire got wiped off the face of the galaxy by the syndicate. They recruited me afterwards :v:
I wonder how Haxis does some of the things he does like with terrain manipulation and all that.
Man, I miss the game but ehhh. Not feeling like paying a monthly sub for it.
Yep. Long gone are the days of my friends fucking around, setting each other's ships to self-destruct and riding motorcycles into the sun. I also remember feeling an intense anxiety whenever I'd fly around gas giants in my tiny rocket, those things creep the hell outta me.

If you start on a moon around a gas giant, you have to fly around the gas giant to get to the other moons, usually. Pretty though.
Haxis was an idiot for not putting the game through greenlight, getting a ton more attension and money. Just one time purchase in the steam for like 10e? Would've been just fine. I bet he would've gotten a lot more off the game that way rather than going full retard with monthly subscription.
Building a ship that you could call home and fuck shit up in was the best. I'll always miss playing card games on you while the crew mowed down innocent wildlife, Valkyrie. I won't forget about you either, Space SUV. I didn't know you could make rocket motor powered spaceships so I went back and forth in a rocket four times before I had enough materials to build the airport and start building grav drives. Game can be really pretty. [t]http://i.imgur.com/u66c0rC.png[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/lhrNsOa.png[/t]
Despite the 90s crudeness of the graphics, the lack of clientside movement (interpolation is the word?), and the general wonkiness of a lot of things, I had a lot of fun with this. Best way I could describe it is as a first-person 4X game, which is a niche I don't believe has ever been filled. It's just a shame Haxus insists on going it alone, which is probably going to mean the future development of this game can be measured in ice ages. Though to be fair he probably doesn't have the budget for a dev team. Might as well upload all my old SoH pics (the very first ones I took when starting out have been lost) http://imgur.com/a/I9al9
Necro'd for more progress on my Romulan texture pack. [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3864447/PICS/SHORES/romutextures.jpg[/t] Hope to be finished soon, as Haxus has recently been putting in a bunch of work on a new ship designer which may show up soon.

Wait. Wait. I thought this game was shut down. What the hell. Indigenous people? Ringworlds are also stargates? Black holes? Alien sex?? What the hell happened while I was away?
What the hell happened while I was away?
A lot apparently :p Also, I've released an early version of my Romulan ship texture mod http://hazeron.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=124&t=8820 It's not done, still has some leftover placeholders from my federation mod. Very happy with what I've done so far though. A very Romulan Miranda class: [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3864447/PICS/SHORES/romumiranda.jpg[/t]
Alpha for the new editor is up by the way. Lot of the base features in the editor are there, just some need some 'usability' enhancements and tweaks. He's hoping to have new ships in-game by end of January. I messed around with it for a bit: [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3864447/PICS/SHORES/neweditorstuff.jpg[/t] [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3864447/PICS/SHORES/neweditorstuff2.jpg[/t]

To clarify, using the old design system every part of a design is a room, has a function, you can go there (excluding fuel areas). From what I understand now you make a fancy pretty model and fill in tiny areas for "rooms" and that's it. The ship is a chunk of inaccessible lifeless metal with a few small rooms to make it function. Is this the case? How does this new designer work? I will admit, it can produce pretty ships but I fear it will lose that charm ships had before of being fleshed out and explorable. I would check myself but I am no longer subscribed.

http://hazeron.com/status.php 14 people atm, but i've seen it get as low as 2
If anyone hasn't took a poke around the forums in a while, Hazeron has the new ships working in-game. New editor is pretty much 3d modelling software so it's a bit of a pain to use currently, hopefully we'll get some tools to make it a bit easier. For now many people have been starting ships in Blender and completing them in the editor. this is a ship Haxus made: one I've started on:
So we started with a system where anyone could potentially have fun making ships, to something where you have to be a modeler to have any custom ship design. I can't wait 3 years from now where we'll even be able to program the game on our own to make it work! [editline]30th March 2017[/editline] All riffing aside, how's the game been evolving gameplay-wise? Any cool additions?
Was the old editor removed in favor of this one? If so I'd say that's pretty dumb if it weren't for the fact that there's probably only like a handful of people still playing this anymore.
Old editor is still around, but that's only because of the new system not being fully functional yet, it'll disappear once its done (iirc). As someone with some modeling experience, this isn't too problematic to me, but I fear this'll remove some of the charm that every player could make any ship they wanted without too much of a learning curve. While you can now publish spaceship designs on a sort of "workshop" and sell designs for in-game currency, I feel the game might just end up having a select few spaceship designers that everyone else gets their designs from. Haxus has mentioned the possibility of a new simplified designer in this new system, and the possibility of porting old designs over, so maybe there's some hope there. The current population of approximately 20 tends to be a bit worrying, but it just sort of tends to stick around, it's mostly just "veterans" at this point though. There's been talks and rumors about a possible Steam release at some point which could improve the population quite a bit, but as I've never seen the game go past 150 players at once, I do wonder how the infrastructure would even handle that (imagine the thousands of early access players), suppose that might be why Haxus seems to be reworking a lot of the laggy parts of the game (officers getting massively nerfed, no more trade ships but rather brokers trading between systems). While the future of the game is always uncertain, Haxus has recently started changing a lot of the core gameplay, if this is a good or bad thing remains to be seen.
The old ship designer was literally the entire reason I played the game, walking around your own completely designed ships and exploring the universe was the only thing I did.
Can you no longer walk around inside your own ships?
Can you no longer walk around inside your own ships?
Well you can but you need to spend 2 weeks modelling your interior just like you would with actual modelling software. You can no longer design a ship in an hour or so, now it's going to take weeks.

While modelling the outside of the ship isn't so bad, building an interior is slow work, even with experience in blender. Until then, I'm thinking about putting together some interior segment prefabs to make ship design a little quicker.
So how do interiors work in the new ship designer? Like assigning cargo space and such? What are these jigs I read about on a wiki? Think he'll expand this to buildings, or other vehicles maybe?
Ah geez, I'm having some real nostalgia attack about this game. Damn you guys for bumping it again haha.
