Update Troops Fire Weapon Bases I forgot to mention earlier that I also fixed a bug that prevented troops from firing the fire control console at weapon bases. I was reminded painfully of this by a fresh bug in this code that caused a lot of servers to crash on startup. Crew Doesn't Start G-Drive Fixed a bug that caused the crew to sometimes fail to turn on the gravity drive when ordered to go somewhere. They just sat there until you manually turned on the gravity drive for them, then they would proceed normally. The error occurred when a non-new ship had no power in the capacitor and the power plant and gravity drive were off. Subsidized Crew Pay Subsidized crew (officers, crew and troops) are now paid out of the Subsidy Tax account. They will accrue back pay when there is not enough money to pay them, just like crew on private ships. Crew of private ships are still paid out of the Ship Account. In addition to settling back pay at payday when possible, back pay of crew on subsidized ships is paid when you hail an empire city that has a bank with government funds available. This is when the subsidy tax account is normally transferred to the bank. Now the bank sends payroll to your crew when they have money. Crew of private ships are not paid in this way. Improved tooltips on Spacecraft tab of Governance window to explain how/when crew pay and back pay are paid. There is still no consequence for failing to pay your crew. Troops Fire Guard Tower Turrets Troops now fire the turrets in guard towers. This actually knocked part of an item off the big grey list above. Their pathing logic is still pretty rough, will get attention soon, possibly tomorrow. Troops Operate Shield Station Troops at shield bases now operate the shield console. All they do is turn the shield on if it's off. The shield generator is no longer on by default. A person or a troop must turn it on. This reduced the task of AI operating building consoles down to just the surgery and transporter consoles, an item on the big list. Buildings Obstruct Turret Fire Buildings now act as obstructions to turret and other gunfire, including attacks by wild animals. Animals should no longer be able to kill you through the walls of a building. Spot Buildings The spot command ( ` or ~ ) now spots buildings. The cross hair on the screen is also responsive to buildings now. Hit Effects on Vehicles Hit effects from turrets were not always rendered properly on vehicles. Vehicles that could have a contrail effect were messing up the rendering of visual effects on themselves. Server Crash Fixed a bug that crashed a server. This lurking critter may have been the cause of most of the unexplained server crashes in recent weeks. The crash bug is fixed but a mystery still remains. Shields Block Transporters Shields now only block transporters if all sides have at least two units of energy. Previously, shields blocked transporters if any side had any energy at all. Spawn Farm Animal Using DNA Farms can now spawn a farm animal from a DNA sample lying on the ground. The DNA sample is 'used' once, so it will eventually be used up, affected by quality. [B]The DNA sample does not have to be a herbivore. Any ecological role can be spawned in this way and it will be domesticated so you can ride it.[/B] The DNA sample must be from an animal, not a sentient race. A DNA sample is used when present, even in a habitable environment where a herbivore would normally be fetched from the environment. This is only done for the first animal to spawn. When spawning a second animal at a farm making Animal Carcasses, the second animal is always the same specie as the first animal but of opposite sex. This provides an easy way to get animal product production working in harsh environments. Station Replacement Bug When replacing the only station in orbit, the new station was being placed opposite the old station. The old station is now properly ignored so the replacement station will appear at/near the location of the city that spawns it. This bug was causing the replacement station to spawn on the opposite side of the planet. This was unfortunate now that their orbits are geosyncronous, especially when the new station was placed beyond transporter range of the city. Transporter Out of Range When a ship or station is out of transporter range, they no longer suggest you wait a few minutes for them to orbit closer. Orbits are now geosyncronous. They won't be drifting closer any time soon. Ship Mothball Snafu Could not mothball a ship. Crewmen were aboard but not on the roster. Could not get them off the ship. Fixed mothball check. Previously mothballing was blocked by the presense of any creature aboard the ship. Mothballing is now blocked if: Any player is aboard, on or off line. Any troop is aboard. Any officer is aboard. Any citizen (crew or passenger) is aboard who has a berth aboard any ship. [/QUOTE]

Anyone had a problem before where a moon colony will refuse to buy air, and thus start to suffocate? It's the richest colony I have on account of all it's lumenite, and everything else is in the green (power and other necessary facilities). It's the most distant colony I have, which means it's annoying to have to spend my own money hauling air all the way there. NPC officers can be used to pilot the ship, and you can give them orders to e.g. harvest a gas giant and trade the contents to a city.
