Where might one find a map of the inhabited sectors?
I'm in Laern sector (307, 0, -1)
If you're looking for a map, head to the first couple of pages. Stains there posted one with a general population zones.
You're in oldspace, where most people are. 315,something,something is Imperium space.
Ha, funny how he has to travel from the empty west to the east. That's the same path taken in Homeworld.

[I]Deep inside the ruin, was a single stone that would change the course of our history forever.
On that stone was etched a galactic map, and a single word more ancient than the clans themselves.
Hazeron.

Actually he's in the galactic core, roughly 50 sectors from the center. Traveling towards civilized sectors would be traveling galactic east.
So I collected all the materials I required for a moon colony, which were funded by some people on galactic chat.
Now I need to figure out why road slabs refuse to be placed down on the moon.
The terrain you're placing your slab on has to be flat. Slabs are really finicky.

its okay dude you don't have to cry green shit about it
Can't be bothered to name my colonies in Latin anymore (or at least, words from a latin dictionary roughly relating to their primary product). Now it's just "Ore.202" or "Lumenite.195" :v:
EDIT:
Might have to rename some of my old moon colonies as i've forgotten what they produce.
I named a system "Sausages".
Tempted to destroy my first moon colony as it's materials are now obsolete (can get better quality everywhere else), but I realised it'd be very useful as a form of defence for my homeworld, to have laser defence bases on it. I could squeeze maybe 3 of them on it (and be able to take the morale hit without overall morale dropping), arranging them at equal distances to cover all angles.

Yeah, and then accidentally requested something involving the city in galactic
The evolution of my main combat vessel class Vanguard, techs 3, 5, 6.
Tech 6 hasn't been manufactured yet, so i'll probably take that opportunity to move the additional sensor room you see at the top somewhere else, as it looks rather awful there with that angle.

Main difference with 6 (other than utilising the extra mass for more firepower and capacitor) is that the fuel cell is on the inside rather than that hump you see on the first 2. It also now has a wormhole drive.
On 5, I put one of the turrets in a rather silly place, didn't notice the problem until it was crewed.

And here's one of my moon colonies.

I never bothered building massive ships, especially for each tech level. For starting colonies I just use a small frigate with lots of cargo space and scan range, and a few turrets to keep those pesky critters off me.

I like this shot, kinda cool.
I just had my first pirate base spawn in my system, so i'm arming myself to the teeth out of sheer paranoia (doesn't help that there seems to be a player-owned system right next to my own, and that i'm in the middle of the most populated part of the galaxy), as well as putting laser bases on every single colony :v:
I also use it for colonising, since I use cargo holds instead of halls.
Anyway, updated the ship design to move the sensor room to the inside.

Where is the most populated area of the galaxy?

I told my ship to land at Sausage City in the Sausage system.

Oh good, I'm in the backwater part of the galaxy.
I'm tempted to have my bases and ships fire on sight at everything, to prevent the scenario of someone landing on a planet first then going hostile to avoid getting shot down; but that might give rise to more problems than it'd solve.
I think i'll just flee to the west as soon as I get warp drives.
Careful, just because you flee until you're alone doesn't mean you'll stay that way. New empires are randomly placed, you could get one right next door.

If he has warp drive then he could easily blockade his empire's wormholes with warships.

Designing a freighter. Its a tad hard to see the flying bridge on the side.

I love the look of that
Its absolutely asymmetrical, and yet its so balanced
When's tax time?
I'm stuck at uni being busy. I wish I had more time in this game.
By now, I should have my first pirates.

Are hull doors the extend across decks like that still somewhat broken?
I remember having to go and open each deck.
Even with them all being "open to deck below"
I wish I could make cool looking ships but I'm just not a good designer. My best looking ship (IMO) is a Pillar of Autumn rip off.

Last time I bothered with large bay doors, they where something like 7 levels high but they open in two parts.

I find it useful to download other peoples ships and deconstruct them, see their design flows and get inspiration from them. Made it easier for me to start making my own once I saw the frame work of more complicated works.
Gotta watch yourself though, it can be easy to slip from inspiration to copying.

I find it easier to design asymmetrical ships that look good compared to symmetrical ones.
I was also planning on adding some conformal fuel tanks around the cargo bays just to break up its brickness.
I take inspiration from EVE and X3 Xenon capital ships.

I was just about to talk about how that made me think of a Charon from EVE when...

Seriously some of the coolest ships designs ever.
This is my general purpose ship:
[t]http://i.imgur.com/mPBZHLX.png[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/psZhT0N.png[/t]
Sort of a more freight-friendly Millennium Falcon. I personally consider my space fleet more merchant marine than dedicated combat vessels.
Spiralfactor has seen my newer model "I duct taped a load of junk together and made it fly" combat-ish (its got a weapons bay!) ship.
I wish 1) You could change the background so you could distinguish the windows from the black of space, 2) I saved my designs on dropbox more often.

Be caaaaarefulllll... last I checked, a well placed shot to a fuel tank can be quite colorful. And surface mounts make them more easily hit.
Every ship I design has at least 1 square of sealed cargo hold between it and the outside world for that very reason.

I mean, look at it.
Finally found a wormhole path to a certain somebody's city:

[sp]Also Jad you're not getting taxes because you don't have a bank [/sp]
so tonight after merv and i found a ship stuck in repair mode and had ikkir come out and fix it for us nikola asked for a lift to somewhere not so close to all the violence.
so i went and picked him and his friends up.
turns out they were all diseased and starving
[t]http://i.imgur.com/RepJpLo.jpg[/t]
i got them all into my medbay so they wouldnt be constantly dying on me when warping.
after a few locked room shenanigans and having to go back for one that got sucked through my wall into deep space we headed on over to the bar for something to eat.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/j28rUIO.jpg[/t]
turns out a couple of them were scavengers, so i butchered a few animal carcasses which gave me rats...
out of the frame the spider is stabbing and gutting all my rats.
at this point its getting a bit odd having a bunch of naked natives running about my starship.
so we head on down to my hold where i hooked them up with some arms and armor.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/WyhE5qD.jpg[/t]
at this point one of them got hungery.
not having any more carcasses, there was a murder...
tomorrow hopefully i can get them settled somewhere out of the way.
now onto getting the fleas out of my ship.
