Soldering Irons and Glue Guns can also be made from plastic. Natural gas isn't required for anything.
I'm already making every tool I can out of plastic, I just haven't touched or checked my textile factory since I first set it down in the early days of my empire :v:
im thinkin' oh the wild life isnt too bad here.

then 5 minutes later
why is there humongous jackrabit worms trying to eat me.

seriously, it takes 4 shots to kill one of those things with my TL28 rifle with TL18 ammo.
and they jump so high i would classify them as flying things.
and what place makes soldering irons without natural gas, that would save me an officer.
In my experience, creatures with more than 4 legs seem to be very common. Every creature on my home world so far has been a centipede-like abomination D:
OK, I think I'm going to start this today. How easy is it to remain hidden for the longest possible time? Like is it procedural, or have all the planets been found or something?
Looking to start a small empire with my friends.

It's easy to stay hidden as long as you go far from the main cluster and don't recruit.
It would take you about a week to fly 100 sectors at lightspeed. That would ensure you stay hidden.
Spent nearly 3 hours making my next-gen harvester, but I forgot to double-check I could actually get into it :/
Forgot to put a hull opening where the stairs from the airlock meet another room .
I finally went and build a big freighter (not the one I designed a while back, that is higher TL), forgot about it, and built another one.
So now I'm off to colonize another habzone and get my two freighters ferrying cargo to my homeworld.

Until the diceroll of a new character lands him next door.

Yeah, of course. Or someone doing it on purpose.
The heavily-armoured harvester proved to be an excellent test of my planetary defence systems. If it didn't take so long to manufacture the bloody things, i'd use them to test defence base coverage and whether I need to space them out more to cover the entire planet.

LOL I actually saw you post that in game.
Also, how useful is the wiki in terms of helping me get set up and offworld? That idiot tutorial guy told me how to move around and that was it. Naturally I chopped him into pieces and have been carrying him around since.

I'd make a few test rockets to get a feel for them/actually land on a moon.
Or design a rocket propelled ship and learn how to get places first. I posted a shuttle.ship file one or two pages back that can be "easily" and quickly fabricated from homeworld materials.
The official "your first moonbase" page is helpful. It gives amounts of materials you need to take with you to the moon.
The road to TL32 is paved with agony, misery, and boredom.

I made a new starbase.
I named it Ramiel and filled it with a really big laser.
There's a shitstorm in progress; Syndicate is cracking down on anti-Syndicate elements.

Fleetmate built a VN mothership and is gonna use it as a starbase design.
Wants to make a VN berserker for attacking people.

My current warship, tl10. I think i'll have to retire the general shape that i've kept with all vessels of this line, as it's starting to look rather bland as it gets larger.

I really need to start my empire again... I wish the flag I made wasn't crooked/off center.

If you send me the file, I could work some magic on it.
none of my mines on my new planet are working no matter what I am confuse
I'm intrigued by this game but I have to say it seems complex to the point of being intimidating.

It's mostly figuring out the controls and how to do stuff. The rest you could rely on the manual (google it).
I need to get back into this game but uni is becoming a major time sink to do anything.

Feel free to get rid of the vehicle bay if it allows a greater improvement in design.
I feel like vehicles bays are extremely overused by everybody ever
Going to start playing again secretly, scratch will never know.
also new empire!
I feel like vehicles bays are extremely overused by everybody ever
I was under the mistaken impression a space fighter would be useful against troops; tested it out on my own, couldn't hit shit.
The APC might still be useful as I don't quite know how to use the teleporter to send troops down onto a planet.
Can bikes safely reenter the atmosphere?
Because if they can, you could use them as drop-pods for a great shock-and-awe tactic that I'd have to design a ship around.

Hell, you can drop through the atmosphere yourself unharmed so long as you're not going too fast and you have at least an environment suit.
