also new empire!
Can space stations fire a weapon bay against a hostile target in range automatically without an officer aboard?
I doubt that. The wiki explicitely says you need an officer to fire weapon bays.
Where might I find some good building designs?

You mean my Death Octahedron is falsely advertising certain death?
God damn it, time to colonize the double habzone a jump outside my territory.
You can use any ground vehicle to drop through the atmosphere; it's a common invasion tactic :v:
Hell, you can drop through the atmosphere yourself unharmed so long as you're not going too fast and you have at least an environment suit.
I wish we could have vehicle sized doors on the floor/ceiling now.

Stations are fairly useless for defense unfortunately. A good station should have easy access between space and transporters, plenty of spare fuel in case your cities runs out of hydrogen for any reason and since you can see them from the ground now, the primary concern is for it to look awesome. Mainly if you are going to make a big station and you want it to be more useful in line with its size, just increase the armour and shields a lot so it is difficult to destroy. The only thing that really matters on the station is what tech level the command module is. Larger command modules give a larger anchoring/trading range, meaning ships get stuck much less when they spawn or trade.
However, if you officer your stations you can get more than one station per planet, which means, if you use 3 officers, you can surround a planet with 3 defensive stations, which would add an extra little layer of defense. It's still easy to destroy them though, probably using city guns.
Seems i've hit the threshold of the long ago aforementioned veneer of playability. Rather bored of my empire now, and I don't think it's going to get much better after teching up (not to mention I don't particularly fancy the idea of setting up automated trade routes for higher-tech materials)
See stations from orbit? This gives me an idea.

this is exactly how im feeling.
ive gotten to max tl and found all the resources but its getting stale.
i usually take a couple weeks break from sandbox games when i get this feeling and come back refreshed.
but in hazeron all it takes is a week or so for everything to collapse...

Max out your morale to +8, and it will take 28 days for everything to collapse. One log in of a couple of characters (one per sector) every month isn't a huge waste of time for keeping your empire going.

the wiki is strange
So I've discovered I'm incapable of writing "WORK HARD" into a one floored max grid slab of engine room.
Curse my lack of spacial awareness.
What makes a ship need cryo heatsinks?

Shields.
Shields.
Actually, in my case it was the turrets, I just confirmed.

So, making my first ship (I skipped TL1-7 and went straight to TL8) and wow, it's going to take 2 hours to build. Looks like I'm gonna have to wait until morning.
Imagine waiting 12+ hours for TL32 ships of the line. It sucks.
I'm not complaining. It's nothing compared to the wait times you'd get in Eve Online or, heck, Warframe and that's a faced paced action game (3 days to build a Warframe not including gathering the mats).
Make me a warship in the shape of a Dera Strawberry.
I check out the shores of hazeron website, the background image is this

That's me and 2 other guys buying tl32 tech of the goons
Haxus must've gone invisible and sneak a screenshot, perhaps he did go with us on our space journey?
Also daaamn I accidentally dropped my helm back then and I couldn't find it and now in the screenshot I can see it was in the hangar all along
and now this shot appeared for me. Shot from my ship orbiting above said TL32 city

Haxus the sneaky bastard :v:

maybe that explains why the ship in question suddenly had warp 9 warp drive installed when I logged back on after the trip.
I can't find Metal on my homeworld for the life of me!

wow, thats the second pirate station that has spawned in my home system in two days.
God damn, who would have known that giving custom, intricate orders to a ship that you built yourself could be so satisfying? It's even more impressive when you know that any station on the ship could be manned by a player, and that all the console screen are usable.
