I remember trying to get into this game a year or two ago, but the appalling graphics put me off (and the confusing UI!). I remember the graphics being something like a bad mix of Second Life and Runescape.
They're still appalling. And yes, the UI is still horrifically confusing.
And thats why we love it.
The UI seems fine to me. Not exactly intuitive, but one gets to grips with it quickly enough. What annoys me more is the difficult nature of controlling anything manually, from the player's footsteps to vehicles. I'd be perfectly happy with just smoother movement.
Also he found a 20 arc ringworld with TL32 ore and hydrogen on it. But its rather far away from us. If anyone would like to start a new empire on it, give us a shout.
Gibe

I wouldn't mind starting an empire to be an offspring of sorts to NeoCAS, or at least really good friends (that maybe share tech or something :v:). It'll probably end up just being me alone in my empire like normal, I have no friends that are interested in playing SoH.
By the way, I just started playing three hours ago, so I'm completely clueless, how do you make your roads actually get finished? All of mine just has a "under construction" texture on them
I really should sleep, but one of my colonies is suffering from an air shortage, and i'm currently stuck at the whirly stars :/ [editline]23rd April 2014[/editline]
By the way, I just started playing three hours ago, so I'm completely clueless, how do you make your roads actually get finished?
By the way, I just started playing three hours ago, so I'm completely clueless, how do you make your roads actually get finished? All of mine just has a "under construction" texture on them
Citizens of the city will work to build anything provided they have the tools and the option is checked. If they don't have the tools, make sure they do. If you have no citizens, you can go stand on it and work it yourself, using the same menu thing that you used in the beginning to craft your flag. Just spam click the work button.
Don't forget to make sure you have the materials. My priority when making new cities is build a four level stone mine next to the flag then a two level farm also next to the flag. Then start building roads.
Also a full level house or two, to get a higher starting population that way the next day or few hours you play you have more than four citizens. With the house they will work the mine and others will build, instead of switching between.
Got out of limbo to find one of my colonies suffocating :/ Fucking annoying, homeworld has at least 10,000 units of air, but fuck all's making it to the colony.
Thanks for the help, I had to restart the game in order for the construction menu to pop up. Now I've another problem. It went from around 300 labour to that, but now it simply just won't proceed. I made my logging camp produce the wood needed, and I've got a hammer. What's the problem?
close the window and re-open it. you probably ran out of hammers mid way through. tools break when used over time.

It's pretty easy to get (fucking everyone 90% of the time) and the max height is 8 instead of like 2 or 4 for wood.

Got my ore production up and running on a moon, only to find out it was the wrong moon, and this ore is about 80ql worse than what I was aiming for :/ If only I had missiles right now... [editline]23rd April 2014[/editline] Now I can't even remember what moon it was :/ Fuck it, going to wait until I can make a sensor suite, then nuke the colony I wasted a day on. [editline]23rd April 2014[/editline] Oh for fuck's sake. I levy 5% wealth because my capital has 10% loyalty. But turns out it was some bullshit like 9.999% loyal, and the shitlords revolted. Going to start anew, fuck them wankers. [editline]23rd April 2014[/editline] If you see a decaying empire called "Sanctus Ori", with one planet pledging allegiance to Syth (pirates?), burn the fuckers to the ground. Sector LEQ'OTQ'Gb -110, 113, 3. System Celestis 1.9, -2.6, -3.2 Not that I expect anyone to go out of their way to clean up a dead empire, but if you do pass by, blow stuff up and send pics plz.
God help us all
the next supply of Yiffweave has been discovered.
Hammer broke and UI doesn't properly update to show. Make another hammer.
Yep, that did it
I've put StrawberryClock in the #2 leadership position temporarily. Merv you can request it back any time.
Thanks. [editline]22nd April 2014[/editline] Hmmm. Wierd. There are certain ships that don't respond to my orders, even if they answer my hails. [editline]22nd April 2014[/editline] Some ships don't even answer my hails. [editline]22nd April 2014[/editline] Weird, I don't know why this is the case. [editline]22nd April 2014[/editline] So apparently Private ships don't answer to the chain of command, even when they have an officer that comes from the empire... Ok, makes totes sense. [editline]22nd April 2014[/editline] If that's really the case, we should probably ask people not to take an officer if they're using a private ship. [editline]22nd April 2014[/editline] Or take it the other way around: if you want to use an officer use a subsidized ship. [editline]22nd April 2014[/editline] Still doesn't explain why some subsidized ship aren't responding to my orders.
its not like there is a shortage of places for officers. plus i prefer having a ship that nobody can just up and abscond with at any moment. the ability for it to be re spawned is also a bonus.
its not like there is a shortage of places for officers. plus i prefer having a ship that nobody can just up and abscond with at any moment. the ability for it to be re spawned is also a bonus.
But like a sub-atomic particle I must be everywhere in our empire at once until observed! There are definitely benefits to having freighters as private spacecraft. Which is something we do need to do at some point if we want our TL32 shipyards operating properly.
its not like there is a shortage of places for officers. plus i prefer having a ship that nobody can just up and abscond with at any moment. the ability for it to be re spawned is also a bonus.
The problem isn't really the lack of officers, it's the inability of ordering the ship around when you might need it if you're not its captain. Also, since officers are bound to cities, there is a benefit of swapping officers around depending on where the ship will stay for extended periods of time, which we can't really do with private ships. [editline]22nd April 2014[/editline] I mean there are definitive perks to private ships, but the fact that they can't be given orders if the captain is offline drastically reduces their flexibility.
cake do you like the changes i made to rank names
If we weren't limited to 31 characters for rank titles, I would be disappointed. Since we are limited, I approve. But alas I cannot be Master of Stars and Space, Protector of the Sun, Holder of the Slide-rule of Trigonometry, Grand Regent of Mehiteni, and Supreme Commander of the Fleet, Cakebatyr I. [editline]b[/editline] Also since dracotonisamond found the ringworld and we have had multiple requests for it from several people, I shall leave him to decide its fate.
You'll never take my private ship from me. It's my baby
Also since dracotonisamond found the ringworld and we have had multiple requests for it from several people, I shall leave him to decide its fate.
since its a 20 arc ring, i dont see why it should be bestowed upon a single person. its in a nice neighborhood so i think the arcs should be doled out to anyone who wants one as long as they can be friendly to their neighbors.
So in the past week we've all experienced the clunkiness of the current command structure in Hazeron regarding city/planet/system/sector governor ship. Where only one person can be at one level of administration. I plan to propose on the hazeron forums that we should be set so parts of the empire can be administered by people of different ranks. For instance, StrawberryClock and myself would like everyone to make subsidized ships at our shipyards in Precalculus. But that requires one person to request a position, then remember to give up the position after the work order is started/completed. What I would like to see is a new column in the "Governance (F12) -> Places" tab to set the minimum rank of a city to be administered. For example we have our current rank layout. So if anyone of "Warrant Officer" status or higher wanted to do anything in the Pythagoras system, they could.
