Dead Rising 2 is still my favorite overall. It doesn't feel quite as polished as DR1, but the improved survivor AI makes a world of difference, and I like the weapon combos. OTR just makes it even better with autosaves and a full sandbox mode, though I do wish the devs hadn't become so aware of Frank's memetic status. Did you know he's covered wars y'know? I still really like Dead Rising 1, but I hate it as much as I love it. It's a charming game that pisses me off to no end. I just tried escorting six survivors to the safe room at once, and only two made it because the rest were too focused on either fighting zombies, running into walls, or standing completely still.
i too escorted 6 and they all made it. you just need to clear a path and be ready to send them into stores for pitstops and bring them all some food. handy tip, you can aim, then hit ctrl to tell them to go somewhere and stay there. when they're wounded, find an empty store, send them there, bring them food.
I get what you're talking about though. I can kind of tolerate the increased wackiness in DR though, as it helps to have something to combat the nowadays rather dry nature of zombie themed games. That, and the series has always had wacky undertones.
That's the thing though. First game has some whacky stuff, Frank's all goofy and shit, with the weird clothes, the occasional super weapon and so on. But all the sequels just took that perfect amount of weirdness and just expanded and focused on it way too much. Ain't about undertones any more, its become the core of the games.

It just works really well with all the quirkiness.
Just killed the convicts for the 3rd time, man I forgot how much this song pumped me up. Does anyone else suffer from stuttering when striking zombies with certain melee weapons? The frames stay at a constant 60 but a noticeable stutter happens most frequently when I'm using the baseball bat.

[editline]16th September 2016[/editline] Gone Guru is the Dead Rising theme for me, man I love that song

I always assumed the music that plays during the Psycho battles of DR1 was some random rock music with Engrish lyrics.
The main reason I like the first one, is because the mall actually felt like a real mall. In DR2, it was like some fantasy consumer paradise.

IMO Dead Rising 2 is the most well rounded game in the series so far.
The chainsaw in DR1 was amazing but they made it stupid and useless in the rest of em.

Anyways I read somewhere once that Capcom games usually tend to have that little frame-stutter on purpose. It's supposed to make the hits feel more impactful. If I could remember the source i'd share it, but in my experience it's been true.
Oh my god the fight with [sp]Isabela on the motorcycle[/sp] is the fucking WORST.
Does anyone else suffer from stuttering when striking zombies with certain melee weapons? I thought the bug was patched and that after I beat the convicts I would be done with it. I kill Adam and on my way out for the Japanese tourists.. WEEEEEEEEEELL HE AIN'T MY BOY BUT THE BROTHER IS HEAVY Is that meant to be intentional that they come back? I thought it was a bug, well at least the dumb AI makes them constantly crash into the same tree/pole :v:
Oh my god the fight with [sp]Isabela on the motorcycle[/sp] is the fucking WORST.
Yeah you got to cheese it. Like almost every other boss fight lol. Stockpile the SMG from Paradise [editline]16th September 2016[/editline]
I thought the bug was patched and that after I beat the convicts I would be done with it. Also if you best Adam you should have gotten the shortcut. No need to go outside
Deadrising 1 isn't really that brutal, as long as you plan ahead and know how to cheese the boss fights. Escorting five survivors at once is a different story though.
I was on my way to deal with the chainsaw clown dude for the first time ever, but as I went outside to get there the convicts ended up getting right next to me and started fucking me up, so I ended up blowing most of my supplies and shit on them to kill them. I was like "well fuck, guess I'm not checking out that scoop this playthrough" Then I realized I could take that hugeass gun on the back, and that fight became the easiest shit ever.

WEEEEEEEEEELL HE AIN'T MY BOY BUT THE BROTHER IS HEAVY
you're playing dead rising 1 man. i know comparing things to dark souls is way over done but it really is that of the zombie games. it's a heavily punishing game. I mean it's fair, in tune with dark souls comparisons perhaps it was difficult at the time because I was inexperienced at the game and pretty young, so doing it now is incredibly easy. I just thought it was a bug rather than a difficulty feature
honestly though they were only hard when i was 14. playing it now on pc the convicts are super easy, i kill them in like 5 seconds flat. hint for newcomers. get adams mini chainsaw and 3 books (horror, criminal and engineering) and they'll last for about 8,000 hits. and the chainsaw respawns every time you enter wonderland plaza or do a cutscene. you can get 2 right off the bat once you beat the clown if you pick it up before letting that dude off the ride. welcome to easymode [editline]16th September 2016[/editline]
I think I'm getting the shortcut confused with DR2/OTR ones, I don't need an npc to guide me to it?
after killing adam, let the security guard off the ride. he'll escort you to and unlock a shortcut to paradise plaza.
I knew I forgot to do something related to Adam :v:
Welp, just beat DR1. It was a lot easier than the first time I played through it back on 360. I'm surprised I didn't get the Saint trophy. How many survivors are there anyway. I thought I only missed like one guy.
Is there an easy way to deal with the convicts early? I just have a bunch of pistols
I found this youtuber making quality tutorials on defeating psychopaths in DR1. He has little to no views.
Is there an easy way to deal with the convicts early? I just have a bunch of pistols
go to the gun store in the north plaza, you'll have to fight a boss here if you're on the first day, grab a couple of sniper rifles, then stand on top of the roof of the picnic area, and snipe them from a distance. They're pretty much guaranteed to be stuck on a tree or lamp post, so it should be easy to take them out.
Personally I really didn't like how overweight Frank was in DR2:OTR. I understand why he ended up like that and it made sense, but it just looked crappy. Especially since I'm someone who likes to wear only default clothing, and his black suit had a really bad texture map for when he's covered in blood. The moment he gets any blood on him his entire upper back would go red, but the lower half of his suit jacket stayed clean with a crisp seam between the upper and lower halves, at least till he gets more blood soaked. That's why I bailed straight to the Wllamette Frank v2 mod. That ain't Frank.
Is there an easy way to deal with the convicts early? I just have a bunch of pistols
Bait them to run into a tree, and then whack the driver with your melee weapon, if you don't have a mini chainsaw from Adam, I recommend grabbing the katana found in Columbia roastmasters in the paradise plaza. Just jump over the rail next to the orange juice rack
One thing I just remembered loving is when it hits 10pm in the mall, and 'Thum' the lights go out and the jingles stop, all you can hear are the zombies.
Fuck you Ronald, your fat ass cost me running out of time. Since he eats everything there wasn't a coffee creamer in the security room and I needed it to make a quick step in paradise plaza since I don't think there are any other ingredients for it there. I could do his second mission either since it decided to fail me because I brought like 6 survivors to the safe house right as I got it. Not saving you the second time around. [editline]16th September 2016[/editline] Granted I did spend far too much time dealing with all of their godawful ais, literally all of them got stuck on the escalator in entrance plaza
