I haven't really looked into dead rising 4 until now and hooey it looks like it's gonna be a steaming load it hurts
I know this 11 minutes of gameplay probably isn't how the actual game is going to start, but a big problem I'm seeing (and a problem that's been present since 2) is that killing the zombies doesn't really have that big of a flare if you can slaughter dozens out the gate. Frank was near useless in DR1 at the start of the game, and while other DR games have followed this trend, the amount of gimmicks they rack up per game means that zombies pretty much are never a threat right out the gate. In DR2 you had a huge emphasis on slapping together OP zombie killers from the get go and DR3 inundated you with vehicles. Now the first gameplay I'm seeing from DR4 is just someone mashing the same button over and over again to prompt the same animations over and over again that kills zombies in the same way...over and over again. Even if the game has a much more restrained start, this gameplay demo just goes to show what they value in DR nowadays. How did the gimmick switch over from "use anything you can get your hands on as a weapon!" to "how over the top can we get your zombie killing?"
I think the gameplay looks fun. it looks much faster paced an the controls look smooth.
I hate slow motion. Especially slow motion that lengthens special attacks.
I'm super stoked for DR4.
Is DR4 coming out on PS4 as well, or is it still Microsoft exclusive?
DR4 looks like a knockoff, not a sequel. Even DR3 had its similarities and stylistic factors here and there from the predecessors.
I haven't really looked into dead rising 4 until now and hooey it looks like it's gonna be a steaming load it hurts
Wow Saints Row 5 is looking kinda weird
I didn't feel like DR2's combo weapons was a bad thing, I mean character wise Fortune City isn't Chuck's first encounter with zombies, what with the zombie outbreak that first happened in Las Vegas, where he had to find his wife and Katie, then going to a small town only for his car to get stolen by some guy and building a bike while fighting off zombies and possibly saving other survivors, and after that he's probably attended TiR more than once. Frank and you felt vulnerable because at the time he and everyone else never really encountered any zombies, and as the story progresses so do you and Frank. Chuck by DR2 was already a seasoned zombie fighter, so it felt natural for me.
How long did it take? I'm considering trying it this weekend.
It took... 5½ hours maybe? I had to wait 2½ hours for the ending to start at least.

-snip- They said in the video the exo suit durability degrades with damage, but it's blatantly from usage as well?
I'd like the exo-suit a lot more if it looked like it was made from scrap, like the combo weapons.
combo weapons were a mistake they were cool in dr2 but the balance was already fucked from the start because of it and just gets worse with each entry
Combo weapons were such a great idea but then you realize that all you really need are the knifed boxing gloves to beat just about any psycho and that's about it I mean of course one big draw of Dead Rising is using just about anything to kill zombies or psychos, (once you hit level 47-50 in DR1 you can bean zombies with soda cans and make their heads fuckin' explode,) so a lot of the weapons are just for fun use typically, but MAN did those gloves make every fight a fucking breeze Lest I forget the katana and convict HMG in DR1 though, considering those can end fights in under 20 seconds if you know what you're doing
I wish they improved survivor AI with the Dead Rising 1 port. It's just as awful as I remember it.

Yeah yall complain about the combo weapons but the mini chainsaw could be cheesed hard
combo weapons were a mistake they were cool in dr2 but the balance was already fucked from the start because of it and just gets worse with each entry
and it doesn't make any weapon you can actually find special oh cool i got this rare thing but now i can combine it with whatever and get something even better and more common [editline]25th September 2016[/editline]
Yeah yall complain about the combo weapons but the mini chainsaw could be cheesed hard
they're still nowhere near as deadly as combo weapons in 3 though and there's just something better about them being a special item that's only in one location [editline]25th September 2016[/editline] in dr1 you can be in a situation that's like 'ah hell there's nothing good here, i'm boned unless i get to the katana on the other side of this area'. but in dr3 especially its like 'all there is around here is handguns and firecrackers oh ill just combine them and have a rocket launcher or something dumb'
Yeah yall complain about the combo weapons but the mini chainsaw could be cheesed hard
that still cant take down everything on screen like some of the combos in DR3 like this is fuckin ridiculous
Isn't there a combo weapon in DR3 that is like, five combos put together?
combo weapons would be a lot cooler if they tended to stay a little bit more grounded. being able to whip up a lightsaber in the first half an hour of dead rising 2 was a little bit jarring considering the struggle you had to go through to get anything better than a piece of wood or a baseball bat in dead rising 1. then again, some of the goofier combos in dead rising 2 are by far my favorite weapons in the series. rolling around with the blitzkrieg with a friend in dead rising 2 remain as some of my fondest video game memories ever.

You need more tools to deal with that. Even so it's completely optional. Giving you free handouts at weapon lockers was the real problem.
DR means different things for different people. For some it's about the time/resource management, for others it's just a fun sandbox to kill zombies in. I remember when the demo came out for the first game and I just played the demo over and over trying to mess with the zombies in as many ways as possible.
The zombie respawn distance in DR1 is annoying, I clear out an area for survivors in paradise plaza, move forward to clear more of it, I turn around and I see 4 survivors being gangfucked by zombies that I killed.

The first game is a challenging time management simulator, the second game is a fun zombie killing sandbox with somewhat easier time based elements, and the third game is just a much bigger, slightly more serious version of that. It's slowly become more about killing zombies than managing your time, and I think Dead Rising 2 is still my favorite in terms of balancing the two elements.
Yeah, as good as DR1 one, I think I like 2 the most because it blended the elements. And you've got OTR too if you still want Frank.

I got the two Japanese tourists, brought them to the hallway before the elevator and asked them to stay there while I cleared it out. While I was clearing it out zombies spawned basically right besides them and killed them because they had low hp :|
What would a game with a static zombie population be like?
I haven't really looked into dead rising 4 until now and hooey it looks like it's gonna be a steaming load it hurts
Dead Rising 4 is to Dead Rising as Saints Row 4 is to Saints Row. [editline]25th September 2016[/editline]
What would a game with a static zombie population be like?
There'd be an achievement for killing all of them.
First time I played DR1 I was under the impression that the zombie genocider achievement implied a static zombie population and that killing that amount of them would cause them to cease spawning. I was actually a little disappointed when it didn't. Like come on. It's the population of the town, how are there still more?!
