I considered briefly whether or not I should go to my nearby Best Buy on opening to try to get an Ike, a Megaman, or maybe even a Meta Knight, but then I remembered I live in the midwest and it's winter, so I'd be standing in <10 degree air for the chance at MAYBE getting something, if there isn't a greaseball ahead of me in line who rushes in and buys everything first
So... Nah. Unless you guys think I'm making a big mistake in deciding against this, for whatever reason.
I'm probably going to wait outside my local Best Buy tomorrow morning. I would call Best Buy to ask about stock but I know I'll have them just reference whatever the online site says and talk about the ones that they always have.
I'm just afraid that even if I get there ~30 minutes prior I'll be caught either by a huge line in front of me fighting for 10 fucking amiibos or there will only be a few people, but those few people are these sprinting masses of neck and fedora who'll throw me out of the way and grab the entire fucking shelf to sell on Ebay.
Even if I get the opportunity to make it, I'll buy 3-4 of each to give to friends if possible.
Anyway, some of you have had experience with this; is 30 minutes before opening a good time to wait outside the store? I just hope there won't be too many by that time.
Also the idea of winding up strongarmed away from the display by a bunch of brutish bumblefucks from out of state - even if I'm at the front of the line when the doors open - doesn't really appeal to me either.
A friend who works at that store told me an hour ago that he saw five camper vans in the parking lot when he closed tonight. I'd clearly have a lot of very dedicated competition if I decided to go.
in australia, they're resorting to outsourcing amiibo for restocking stores. [URL="http://www.nintendo.com.au/index.php?action=news&nid=3598&pageID=6"]important enough for it's own news post on the nintendo of australia site.[/URL]
I'm not sure if anyone has posted this yet, but apparently Iwata told the investors that the west coast port shutdown has had a negative impact on NA amiibos and N3DS shipments. I've been thinking that was a big reason but it's nice to know it's confirmed. I'm really hoping this thing ends soon, it'd be nice to see stores here in the US to be stocking amiibos that aren't wave 1 and not having 3 or 4 per location.
We should do what Australia is doing and get compensatory stock from the east coast instead: Europe.

Regardless of whether or not that's resorted to, what Nintendo should do once the shutdown is over is reissue all affected waves in significantly greater quantity.

If the port shutdown is to blame, why import thousands and thousands of Mario Bowser Pikachu etc. amiibos but barely any of the others or retailer exclusive ones. Bowser and Mario aren't going for 40 fucking dollars online.
Because the first wave got four, maybe five shipments before the shutdown (the strike has been going on long before that). The second wave got less, third wave even fewer... It can only get worse from here if no progress is made or NoA has no fallback plan.
Some, like Bowser, don't sell as well because the character isn't as popular among collectors, so they remain much longer. They aren't being resupplied, they have nothing to be resupplied FROM once the warehouse stock runs out. Nearly every character save for the exclusives has the same number of units in the recent waves, it's just that the ones which run out faster can't be resupplied, so they disappear.
[editline]20th February 2015[/editline]
Also, stores are carrying so few of certain ones (like exclusives) because they don't want their entire inventory of them to run out immediately, like what happened to Marth, Villager and WFT. They want them to be available as long as possible, so they limit the amount sent to each store, creating a manufactured long-term shortage, rather than a complete outage later.
As a result, what sells best on day one dictates the "rarity" for the rest of its existence.

They didn't expect the current "rare" ones to sell as well. Combine that with the shipment problems and you have $100 Villagers.
Well, it's wave 3b launch day in the UK and holy shit is it a mess. Mega Man and Sonic are the only figures you'll find anywhere, the other three are nowhere to be seen. One dude I know called up GAME to get a regional stock check and apparently there are only 13 available Shulk figures throughout every branch in the country. Even stores that don't do pre-orders haven't got any MK, DDD or Shulk to go around.
This is the worst wave yet for us.

I'd be very excited to get a Mega Man [I]and[/I] a Sonic. I'm about to go in about two hours myself. USA.
[sp]We have the Amiibo squad in full force checking like five stores. It's stupid.[/sp]
0.9 degrees, windchill of -9. This better be fucking worth it.
Went to collect my dedede and metaknight pre-order at my local store.

Turned out they also had a Ike in stock.
had a lucky streak two days now, got fox yesterday and yoshi today what is up
[editline]20th February 2015[/editline]
And then toon link the day before that
[editline]20th February 2015[/editline]
my megaman just came in yesss
[editline]20th February 2015[/editline]
today is good day
Good thing I was at home. UPS guy didn't bother waiting and left little Megaman out in the cold at the front door.
You're home now little buddy!

Short version: It wasn't. Sigh.
Long version: Even though there were only like 18 people and they were all really nice and patient, and even though there was a strict one-per-person-period policy, there just weren't enough to go around. Aside from the seven Meta Knight, they only had TWO of each of the rest. This shortage is getting ridiculous, NoA needs to take action.

hopefully the sooner this port strike gets settled everything will be significantly easier to get a hold of
importing amiibo is genuinely expensive...if I didn't have amazon prime that Ike woulda cost me nearly 50 bucks
Found MexaKnight today, they had 3, I was third in line.
Now I just need Sonic and Ike, and I'll have all of wave 3.
Well I'm on the bus to best buy. Getting there almost 30 minutes before opening and missing out on 2 of my less umportant classes in the process. Wish me luck
[editline]20th February 2015[/editline]
7th in line, 7 amiibos in stock. Hopefully its one per customer.
[editline]20th February 2015[/editline]
4 MK, 1 of mega, DDD, and Ike, talk about sloppy seconds
[editline]20th February 2015[/editline]
Nope, policy was one amiibo per character per customer. Why do you want me to not like you, Nintendo
nvm read it wrong
[QUOTE=Itachi_Crow;47178922]why the hell are you trying to get more than one of each anyway[/QUOTE]
I'm guessing he's like me and wanted one PERIOD, but since it was one of each character per person rather than just one period, they all ran out before he got any.
Somebody ahead of him probably bought a Meta Knight plus the three others which only got a single copy stocked.
If I could get more than one I would just to let friends get them without paying out the ass.
Well got a discounted Yoshi Amiibo for the hell of it and 2 packs of Pokemon, latter got me a full art camperupt ex so it wasn't all bad
Welp, looks like I'm screwed for getting a Meta Knight.
Damn, I wanted bowser metaknight and dedede from this wave.
I found every amiibo from this wave so far cept these and rosalina, fuc.
Just got my original meta knight. Thinkin of trading him for a ike
Some losers camped out at the Best Buy I went to since like 6 AM. A guy snagged a Sheik I didn't see and everyone tried to heckle the employees. I hate gamers.
Some of them aren't really gamers at all, they're just capitalist remora looking to make a quick buck on something that's popular. Two decades ago they would've scalped Furbies.

Why would they want more of the literal embodiment of Satan as a toy?
furbies are fucking scary [t]http://i.imgur.com/m1SLN7N.png[/t]
Sometimes fads make no sense.
Agreeing with the UK sentiments. I searched the whole city, only ToysRUs had any from the new wave (Sonic, Mega Man). I was checking all over for Shulk preorders a fortnight ago and assumed they were unavailable since they were saving them for the shelves (like an idiot).
Last chance is Argos, since they seem to have made a chain-wide error of barring sales until the 21st.
