I've heard horror stories about small parcels getting badly maimed or disappearing altogether with no accountability on their part. Now I'm really paranoid.

I wish sites gave you more choice as to who delivers your stuff.
Even if it cost a dollar extra I'd want the ability to default to UPS every time.
I have had a bad experience with literally every other major carrier involving something important at one point or another.
apparently Rosalina, Little Mac and Dedede was at some old woman's house because no one answered the door. i was asleep, my brothers were asleep whenever she knocked apparently we didn't hear it. the parcel wasn't opened though so it's all good.

Amiibo are not region locked, or different in the slightest.

Shipping prices might be a tad expensive.
I choose to protect my orders, so i definitely paid more. Unregistred orders are cheaper, but really risky. As you are not being covered from any incident.
Also importing lets you bypass all the rarity and exclusivity bullshit your country might be experiencing. Doing so is most common in the US and Canada, but some parts where amiibo are ACTUALLY scarce are doing so too.
Well I'm going to bed at fucking 9 pm to get up at 4 am to be at gamestop before 5 for this fucking pre order.

From what I've seen, the 8-bit Mario amiibo only comes with Mario Maker bundles. Fair enough. But that's only for the Classic style amiibo. I have no idea how to aquire the Modern style one. I can only find articles detailing their existence, not their availability.
