Whether or not a character is good doesn't determine if their amiibo will be wanted lol. Dark Pit is actually pretty good just unexplored, but people don't stride hardcore for his.
I might get doc mario since I played that game a ton when I was younger. one of the flagship puzzle games of my youth, right up there with tetris.
other than that, falco, mewtwo, lucas, roy, and ryu are all I want left I think. maybe villager.

The major retailers are already purportedly in a huge bidding war for exclusive rights to those four.
Mind you this means nothing unless Nintendo decides to make them exclusive, so what's going on right now is basically an "I'm willing to spend more money than you for it" contest between a bunch of big retail companies.

Falco seems like the most shafted of Amiibo, yes i'm aware of the potential lack of Mii Fighers-compatible titles outside of maybe Mario Tennis: Power Shot...still seems a little lackluster since Star Fox hasn't had a new title in almost 10 years. and even then, it's still Q4, but i guess they're still confident that the game will come by then. Would it be a major surprise if they add Mii Fighter hats ingame as seperate writable data, purely to replace other amiibo? Maybe one wearing a Mario hat would function as a Mario Amiibo, Sheik mask for Sheik, Meta Knight's Mask for Meta Knight, Frog Hat for Villager.
Unsure if other games has been updated to be compatible with newer amiibo besides Smash and Mario Kart. seems like a given that HW would at least get Ganondorf compatibility once the 3DS game comes out. would be really surprising if they have more than 2 Zelda titles in 2016 along with the obligatory Pokemon Z/XY(2)Z.
Really been a roller coaster with amiibo though, got over 30 this year alone, only really missing Jiggs, Greninja, Lucina, Meta Knight and a handful of other amiibo, doubt i'll actively collect all of Smash variants per say, some would probably be an afterthought unless i bump into them in the wild like Pit.
Unless Starfox Zero gets amiibo compatibility with Fox and Falco, in which case Fox becomes among the most useful.

Hopefully that means stores get more then just 2-3.
IIRC some stores order very low numbers intentionally, as they noticed people tend to come back much more frequently if they haven't found what they're looking for yet, which means more potential sales of other items.
It's really underhanded but it absolutely does work. As many people as there are boycotting stores which are understocking, ten or so times more are stopping in daily for even a small chance of nabbing one, and they frequently walk out with something else even if the amiibo they wanted wasn't there, so the store profits.
I was on holidays earlier this week in the center of France, went shopping and saw a Palutena amiibo sitting alone on top of an army of Ganondorf/Dr.Mario. Looked pretty neat so I bought it, along with a Dr.Mario which I main (looks great too). I would take some photos but it's late in the night and they're deep in my luggage :v:
I've heard Palutena was common in Europe. The situation in America seems pretty shitty though.

Pretty amazing findings yesterday. Was totally surprised to see 2 Wii Fit Trainer's on the wall in Toys R Us, then went to Best Buy and found the last Dark Pit they had. Also grabbed Toad because it was the first time i've seen him and I heard he's semi-rare.
Was hoping to finally find Falcon but i'm still super happy about finding these. Dark Pit has a badass amiibo and is probably my new favorite.
