I bought all of these for retail price.
The only amiibo I spent more than retail on were Bowser Jr. (which I got from japan a month in advance and set a very high shipping priority) and Ganondorf (which I bribed a friend $20 to find for me)
Every other one, even the rarer stuff, I paid MSRP just by being patient and knowing where to look.

It's like 2-3 dollars if I recall correctly. It's called UCG Amiibo. It's completely worth the price if you ask me, it's the only reason I managed to get King Dedede and Ness during their restocks.

Toys 'R' Us is getting a restock of many different amiibo this week, starting Monday, including Little Mac, Captain Falcon, Lucario, Fox, Greninja, and Villager.
Villager may be delayed and appear last, most likely towards the end of this week, or early next week. (Your mileage may vary.) We'll update this as we find out more.
Stores are getting an average of ~16 of each character.
These restocks will most likely not be online.
This appears to be a nationwide restock.
Shipments arrive at different times for different stores. They may not necessarily be available at open, but instead later in the day when FedEx arrives between 1pm - 3pm. (Your mileage, and time, will vary)

It's probably because Resetti gave Japanese children PTSD or something and pls think of the idiot children.
There were a whole lot of changes made to AC as a series in terms of tone, mind you. Resetti wasn't the first.

As for Resetti himself, the intent was to scare potential cheaters straight, so they gave him mannerisms and rage characteristic of an abusive father. You can kinda see why some kids (and parents) would find issue with this. Now he's been toned down to more of a "... Seriously? We're doing this again? Man you're thick." tired-of-your-shit surliness.

I managed to get Greninja and Captain Falcon for my self. And a Lucario for a dear friend of mine as a surprise. No Villagers yet. But I'm keeping my eye out.
Just went to TRU in Tulsa, OK. They had so many Little Macs, it was insane. There was at least 30 sitting behind a glass door. They didn't have very many Greninjas or Lucarios, though.
Captain Falcon came in the mail yesterday, Marth should be shipping out shortly. I saw the three pack for Splatoon at my EB games, I would've bought it if it wasn't for the fact that I already own Inkling Girl.

Seems kinda pointless to make Resetti more toned down. The understanding is for Don, did they just forget about him? Don's good cop, Resetti's bad cop, it was simple.

Managed to get one of these for super cheap on Amazon. Funnily enough it was dusty as hell in the box I got it in.
It was so unwanted that the cosmic forces of the infinite multiverse condensed thousands of years of dust upon it near instantaneously.
I'm gonna assume that's.. actually the case. Seriously. Japanese imports are 15-16 dollars on Amazon, with Prime, so free 2-day shipping. Never ever seen an amiibo this cheap. Even the commons are more expensive than that.
I think it may be because the Mii fighters are just not that good in game. And also no one likes the default Miis. If they were going to get a Mii fighter they would want it custom.
Mii Brawler is pretty decent and sees some competitive play

My local TRU in Lithonia, GA got the restock. Bowser Jr, Olimar, Fox, Lucario, Captain Falcon, and Lil Mac all over the place. So sign of Greninja or Shulk, sadly.
Picked myself up a Captain Falcon and Lil Mac. Glad to finally have them.
