Just walk into a EB Games or Walmart if you have one nearby. I did, and I walked out with Mewtwo, Falco and Green Yarn Yoshi. They had a lot left as well.
Managed to get the last Mega Yarn Yoshi at my local Toys R Us, they had it in the back but they found it when they looked back there upon requesting about it. :excited:

yeah, but it's like 800 bucks over the course of two years which isn't a lot spread over that period of time. I collect toys anyway as a hobby so it's not like I'm spending any more than I usually do on completely pointless plastic.
I only paid retail up until I had less than ten figures left to complete my collection, then I started paying within five dollars of retail. Like Shugo said, if you import from other countries it doesn't come out much more expensive than US retail either. Since the Japanese Yen is so weak right now, you can order individual Amiibo figures for like ten dollars. Even after shipping that doesn't come out much more than US retail.
Shopping smart on Amazon with Prime shipping helps to save a good bit too. Like, what, you've got a Meta Knight for 16 dollars with a slightly dinged up package and Prime shipping? Shit boy send that my way.

They like Reese and Cyrus a lot (their favorite characters in NL, they wanted them both for HHD), and they knew I like KK, so I guess it worked out perfectly.

I left with a Villager and a Mewtwo instead, because that's what happens when Amiibos I want are on sale.

A couple weeks ago I saw Greninja, Marth, Lucario, Fox, and Captain Falcon at the Best Buy in Bloomington, but that's really far away from Noblesville.
The other Greninjas I saw in the wild were at the Best Buy in Greenwood, but that was when the BB restocks first happened.
Wonder how Best Buy got the contract anyway, they suck.

Every time I go for something else and check because I'm there, they have more Dr Marios and less of anything else. It's hilariously bad.

I finally got that Dr. Mario Amiibo, and I gotta say I'm impressed with how high quality it is. No crosseyes, five head or anything. I guess it's kinda hard to fuck up Mario in a lab coat but I'd say the quality has increased.

They really have gotten better over time. Some of the original wave 1 amiibo I got had rogue paint splotches all over the finer details and derpy eyes. Haven't seen any of that on the last few waves.

Retro Trio was preordered but i ended up with 2 Mr Game & Watches and a DHD, returned the G&W for a refund and free shipping of a ROB. the Villager was about £12 from Argos. and there was still modern Marios wandering about as is Mewtwo. Greninja and Meta Knight was surprising finds. thrill of the hunt i guess.

Different markets i guess. maybe Nintendo just knew that there's money in exclusives so they pack Miis together due to..well being Miis, Retro Trio probably because they have less marketting presence. G&W is still pretty cool though. Splatoon Trio makes sense at the time because they were pretty new and was a franchise designed partially with Amiibo in mind.
Three pack exclusives are kind of terrible though. If I only want one I'm kinda shafted unless someone decides to be nice or I pay in excess to get one shipped from another country.
In an ideal world, three packs are available in stores, but you can order the individuals online directly from Nintendo if you're only interested in one of them.
Here in Spain the only 3 pack that has been released is the animal crossing one, and even then you can find these separately in stores as well.
IMO this is the best way to do it, buy all 3 and get a small discount or just buy the one you give a shit about.

It's obvious [I]why[/I] they do three-packs, though. Retro characters like Duck Hunt, R.O.B., and G&W really only appeal to older players and collectors, which are ultimately a minority. Best way to make sure they all get sold is to bundle them together so everyone must buy all three. They're separated in the other regional markets because they ship much less stock to those regions, so it isn't a huge loss if they end up unpopular.
This logic is obvious in all the forced three-packs they've done; they're all done to less popular characters. Retro trio, Inkling Squid, Reese/Cyrus, Mii Fighters, etc. I can't imagine any of those have a lot of fans outside of collectors.
