Doom looked 'generic' and too focused on the glory kills, and Battlefront looked like the ultimate Star Wars shooter. Then we found out Doom was actually really damn fun and cared more about bringing back the old wheel rather than reinventing the new one, while Battlefront basically discarded just about every good idea from the old Battlefront games for a generic, unbalanced and absolutely tactless shooter to cash in on Episode VII's hype to the point that EA admitted it.
A scripted trailer can paint something in many ways, and these two games should probably serve as prime examples that first impressions aren't everything.
It's also sad to see that ID doesn't get a lot of appreciation for actually listening to all criticisms that the game was getting since E3. The game looks and feels so different from what was shown in trailers. And it's sad that people would rather ram developers if their games look downgraded compared to trailers but not praise them if they improved it.

That's just how things are nowadays. Most would rather take any excuse they can to rip on and rally against others for the smallest slight than actually be constructive and accepting most of the time. It's the kind of thing that's really messing up criticism in the gaming industry on many fronts.
I'm both excited for and completely dreading this year's convention tbh.
There's a ton of games that I'm excited to see anything about, like Recore, Titanfall II, The Last Guardian, Final Fantasy XV, FF7 remake, Monster Hunter X and so on. Plus upcoming DLC and Expansions for stuff like SFV, Killer Instinct, and Fallout 4.
On the other hand, I am so scared of the console upgrade rumors being true. Unless there's some sort of massive discount/rebate for turning in your current Xbone/PS4, I can't help but feel it would just be some crazy bs charging another $300-$400 dollars for a same-generation console with hardware upgrades.
I know that towards the end of the last generation, the PS3 and 360 hardware was really showing its age and limiting developers, but I'm just really afraid of the possibility that the PS4 I got for $350 is going to effectively become obsolete, especially since I just got it last September.
It's nearing the end of the typical console generation lifespan anyway, though. Normally they last around 5 years, and that's how long it'll have been by the time the new consoles are out. The previous generation was far longer than normal.
The rumours about the new consoles suggest they'll be far more than just the same console with slighly better hardware, it looks like they'll be as big a difference as an entirely new generation, at least with the Scorpio if that's true.

I still feel like this generations barley gotten started, where are the good games?
I still feel like this generations barley gotten started, where are the good games?
Generations aren't determined by the games themselves, though. A lack of good games doesn't mean the generation has only just really started, it just means that there aren't many good games this time. PS1 - PS2, Xbox - Xbox 360, Gamecube - Wii etc were all around 5 years, it'll have been around 5 years by the time these upgraded consoles are released.
I've been playing the Dead Space Trilogy, a brand new one, to go with EA's rebirth of Mirror's edge, would be great.
But not like DS3 holy fuck this game immediately shits all over the franchise jesus fuck

In terms of the gun building DS3 is fucking great. and I did always want coop in dead space [sp]but now I realize why it's not that feasible since the game isn't scary anymore[/sp]
[editline]3rd June 2016[/editline]
a dead space reboot would be pretty awesome. Those suit designs always made me happy. Bring it back to one huge space station again
Yeah, the gun stuff seems to be really cool, but like, 90% of the rest of the game so far has been fucking awful. I gave it a super huge benefit of the doubt because I literally just beat Dead Space 2 after putting it off forever for basically no reason.
It feels like a fake game that is a parody of what EA was doing at the time. DLC out the ass, including the ending, a story that makes Unitology some sort of unstoppable force (They had billions of followers, but like a switch was flipped between games and they became a gigantic cult that could kill THE GOVERNMENT) and grinding in a single player game. What.
That and instead of fighting Necromorphs, the first few chapters are terrible cover shooting against people and... zombies. Just zombies. Not Necromorphs, not the lurkers, just zombies with one or two classic enemy thrown in.
Dead Space 3 was infamous for a reason, it essentially epitomized the shit that EA was going through that everyone hated, alongside Mass Effect 3 and Simcity 2013. It does have a couple neat ideas, like how in the DLC both players in co-op see different illusions or flatout one sees nothing at all while the other's freaking the fuck out. But in the end the game did more harm than good and earned the series a spot in the grave, as if Visceral knew they might as well blow the series' knees out and ditch it because EA wouldn't give them much to work with.
It's funny to see how people's reaction shifted from hating Doom and praising Battlefront to complete opposite after those games were released.
I was worried about DOOM and knew Battlefront would suck (especially since some of my trusted sources said they hated the demo) but it looks like DOOM turned out all right.
A new proper Dead Space game would be fucking dope, but I'd even be totally down with a Dead Space 1 and 2 remaster.
I just want RDR. New or remaster, doesn't matter. I just wanttttttttttttttttt
I just want RDR. New or remaster, doesn't matter. I just wanttttttttttttttttt
You want a new RD. RDR is done son. I wouldn't want a sequel with the way it ended.
And even then, I'm not sure if i'd want a new RD from R*.
Bully 2 would have been great but I know that we're not getting that for a looooooong time.

In my opinion Dead Space 3 wasn't that bad. It was a 6 out of 10 (while the first two games are a 9). The first third of the game or so, with open exploration with no gravity was pretty cool, and the ancient ships feel eerie. In the rest of the game on the planet, I could appreciate the references in atmosphere and monsters to John Carpenter's The Thing, but that was definitely dragged on too long. And the last chapter in the temple is not great.
I think it mostly paled in comparison to the first two games. Same goes with Mass Effect 3, except it's better and a genuinely good game, but the ending and the overall plot and RPG quality feels worse than in 1 and 2.
SimCity was genuinely horrible though.

Why not?
Why not?
Because the man that saved that game is now in a massive quarrel with Rockstar over unpaid royalties.
Why not?
Their recent troubles with The Benz makes them a little more risky, I think- especially when that guy was the fixer upper of the rockstar games. I hope the next game is good, but its less certain from what we know of the lawsuit.
Awww, I didn't know about all that noise, that's lame. I <3 <3 <3 R*'s RD, sounds like another like it is unlikely.

we need a good sequel because if the franchise really does end with [sp]a complete 180 on the ending of DS2 and 3, everyone getting eaten and everything being pointless[/sp] then fuck
like if they're not gonna do anything after that then why even try to maintain dramatic tension

Not only this, but they're practices recently with GTA sour me on them.
That ending completely fucks the entire series out of possible sequels

aping Mass Effect 3 so much is a shitty turn for the writing, but it's not like it's impossible for the characters to get out of... it's just really dumb. any sequel will undoubtedly involve a simple planet-hopping "find the superweapon" plot
[editline]4th June[/editline]
so long as it still plays good and looks cool i can live with a dumb plot tbh
They could do a prequel. If that [sp]map leak[/sp] is to be believed, the [sp]lack of railroads[/sp] makes it seem as though whatever potential release may be on the horizon (speculation) would indicate a prequel. (Read Dead Spoilers)

One space, three suicides left. I most likely won't do an "official" card this year, because this one seems harder to balance than last year's.
Prize pool is currently first place winner gets a $15 game on Steam. If you'd like to donate prizes (Killing Floor 2 was donated last year (by onebit I think)) PM me or something. But note that if you donate prizes, you can't win (you can still participate of course).

Some ones offended on twitter for suicide?

No, just don't kill yourself.
We'll miss you.
Do we know if development on System Shock 3 has started yet? Seeing that at a conference would be a real treat.

Last info out was that Warren Spector was helming it and that was back in Feb. Not likely they'd have anything to show other than visuals.
I just want to know what day Serious Sam 4 gets demoed.
