I had fun in Comfy Downtime. First time in a long while where I did some vehicle stuff (Gunner in Mallow's tank) and it was pretty grand (Until Holt flipped us...TWICE!) 10/10 would be commanded by Mallow again :ok:
Comfy downtime @ 19:00 GMT/13:00 CST today, check your local listings.

That highly depends on what hardware you currently have and what you are going to upgrade to. Switching from any AMD CPU to a Skylake i5 / i7 for example will see some real improvements. Also apparently RAM Clock also seems to make a big difference in Performance surprisingly. I'm personally on 16gb of 1333mhz RAM and I can't wait to upgrade to 2133mhz, since from what I have read in multiple Guides, Benchmarks and posts, it can make difference of about 10-15fps alone.

But i still think that in actual condition, read in whatever multiplayer operation with shit blowing left and right, multiple mods installed, on a decent server but not top-of-the-line-supercomputer the framerate will still be hot garbage no matter what. I never saw a single evidence proving the contrary so far.

I never saw a single evidence proving the contrary so far.
Well, when I went from my old 1st-gen i7 + GTX-480 to my i7-4770k + GTX-780, the game actually became playable in terms of FPS. Also Keep in mind that MP has a metric fuckton of factors that also influence performance. On SP you will easily see improvements. On MP, it also depends on Server Hardware, Mission, Latency, Bandwidth and amount of players. Missions are usually the big problem when it comes to bad performance in Arma, and it's very easy to create missions with a significant impact on performance. If the mission uses a shitton of scripts or AI, your Performance will still be bad. If the mission is terribly coded, don't ever count on your performance being good. I Recently encountered a mission on the workshop with 250 AI Units, each had 2 Eventhandlers attached to it, resulting in over 500 Registered eventhandlers (That's about 480 eventhandlers too much). Back in the day, I used to modify missions like DUWS and Invade&Annex to play with my group. The Main motivation being performance. For example, I wondered why I do only have 30 fps in Invade&Annex, until I started to investigate why that was the reason. Checking the mission file, I noticed that the spawn base consisted out of 1.5 thousand objects. Remove those, and the FPS almost doubled. Continuing the search, I find AddActions that are added to the player that have conditions attached to them. conditions basically determine if the Action should be shown or not. And these checks run on every frame per second (That is, if it's attached to the player. If it's attached to an object like a pole, it will only check if you look at it and are within 15 meters.) . So if you have 60 FPS, that condition will execute 60 times a second. Now if the check requires a lot of CPU time, it's gonna drag performance down very easily. Combine that with multiple of those AddActions, and you can easily say goodbye to your performance. Personally, what I'd wish from BI to counteract this would be proper Profiling Tools which would hint towards common pitfalls and mistakes in missions. for example:
"Warning, Script X runs every frame and requires a long time to finish" "Warning, a lot of AI has been placed on the map. AI amount is recommended to be X or lower"
A timeline like this that shows Usage of scripts and other performance requiring aspects over time would be a very helpful way to identify why a mission has performance issues. [t]https://i.imgur.com/e7cC6VL.png[/t] I do know about https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Performance_Profiling However capturing individual frames aren't all that useful to identify issues, and it also requires a profiling build. Besides that it is also very cryptic and undocumented.
who would be interested in another PTSD inflicting mission run by myself and toad, along the lines of the convoy one where everyone spent time cowering in a destroyed building i've got a couple of free Sundays coming up (if there's no missions already blocking them)
On the aspect of performance, BIS just introduced one of the better tweaks you could ever implement into your MP mission. https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/disableRemoteSensors In most situations you will want remote raycasting disabled. It dramatically improves the potential for fps on clients. Raycasting is a relatively expensive operation that's done on the CPU, and as a client you will by default cast rays for all units on the map, I suspect other players as well. Unless you need to use a command like knowsAbout on a machine that's not local you will want it off.

I was looking to get a big upgrade around April next year, including motherboard, CPU (want to upgrade my i7 2600k) and case. Hopefully the new CPU will give me some decent performance.
My i5 2500k 4.3GHz, 16gb 1600MHz RAM and a GTX 980 OCed to 1.4GHz clock goes down regularly to 30fps in zeus missions with buddies.
A few pointers: 1. Your CPU despite OC and everything is 5 years old now. Just to keep in mind. That CPU is still flawless with 99% of the software. However, Arma is a different beast and has Quite a different set of rules. Rules where 1 thread does 90% of the work and Raw CPU Power for a single thread makes all the difference. I don't know how Powerful it is compared to the likes of Skylake. Some googling shows me significant performance increases between the 2. However I'm no expert in Hardware and I don't overclock in any way so I don't know where your CPU stands with regards to the OverClock. 2. GPU Doesen't really matter much in Arma, compared to other games, the GPU is not the main bottleneck in Arma. Arma is not a graphically intensive game, but rather a CPU intensive one, in terms that it processes an incredible amount of Data. Which is why it's generally recommended to set your Graphics settings to High or Ultra for most things, since Low and sometimes medium settings use the CPU for rendering, and you want to free up as much as possible from the CPU to make way for Simulations and AI Handling. 3. Zeus in regards to performance can go both ways. Zeus allows you to disregard the Usage of Scripts like Dynamic spawning, Task management and everything, since having a Dedicated human Zeus is the Most optimal way to go for Dynamic Missions. However, a Zeus can also easily go overboard with placing mission assets. It's very temting to place down a lot of fortifications (And stuff like ares also provides huge prebuilt bases as compositions) and spawn a lot of enemies and make a huge firefight. AI is still the most CPU Expensive task in Arma. The amount of enemies in a mission makes all the difference. The best way is to only spawn enemies when they are actually needed. Pre-placing like 3 towns full of enemies is pretty much wasting performance if you clear one town after another, since your team would only be at one town at a time. Usually a Caching script is used to mitigate this by disabling units that are far away. However these are not 100% perfect and are still performance costly operations. Zeus is the ultimate solution for this, by placing units only when they are needed or people are close by.

Toad is always like "Gotta get a brew lads" which I agree is a principle dietary requirement for a British person. Fuck everyone else TEA NOW

Finally managed to upload the whole vid of the Christmas mission for those people who want to make a FP Arma compilation and are missing some helicopter crashes or something.
Completely forgot to upload this moment: [vid]http://bbq.to/redgord3_b48a.mp4[/vid]

Alright, Xmas stuff is now off the server

I forget, in Arma 2 do you get to play on any server running any map, or do you have to pay for all the DLC to get full access? I though I remember you being able to, but all the textures would be really low res. Or is it just available for the editor? In short form; Do you really need all the DLC to play all the servers? Or any mod for that matter?

Merry Christmas. Here's the least Christmas'y and probably also one of the least merry pictures I could take. [t]http://vgy.me/zoWNy6.png[/t] But it's cool.
it looks p cool but i can't help but notice the jarring graphics
Merry Christmas fuccbois, don't let the admin anime illuminati get you
it looks p cool but i can't help but notice the jarring graphics
I'm playing Operation Flashpoint right now. Now let me tell you about them graphics man. After Tweaking every Config and GPU Setting, I got it to this: [t]https://my.mixtape.moe/mqaqer.jpg[/t] Now I just need to apply some blinding Shaders and it's gonna look amazing
Is arma 3 worth putting on an ssd
Is arma 3 worth putting on an ssd
I had it on a normal HDD, was always the last one to load in. Now it is on an SSD and I am finally not the last, but the third last to load in. 👌👌👌
