[SP]Turn to the right just before you leave the caves from where the mutants drag you (there's a bunch of bodies hanging near the junction). You should come across a cavern with a passenger and a torch. If you keep going you'll find the octopus things in the next cavern.[/SP]
do they ever come out?
do they ever come out?
Not yet
Imagine those things standing right in front of you when you suddenly awake in the middle of the night.
this game gets too spooky for me, i just cant play it at night
just being in that cave, regardless of bad guys are there are not, just fucks me up.

and tbh the game being buggy freaks me out even more because theres weird flashing lights inside of the cave
That random light on the ceiling of the cave? Cannibal with a flashlight.
This game is too spooky to play on my own. I've got to wait until co-op comes out.

Play it a few times and it wares off really fast. You will be walking around the island with Molotov in hand not giving a shit in no time.
Yeah, what all items can be crafted in the inventory right now? Is the spear craftable at all, or do you just have to use the one you find on the beach?

You can only get it on the beach sadly.
You can only get it on the beach sadly.
This wouldn't be an issue if inventory was persistent through loading but hopefully that'll be fixed in the next patch or so

Also, I figured out that the secret to fighting them is to just take an axe and swing wildly while kiting. Works flawlessly every time.

Livestreaming some more. No commentary and average video quality ahead.
I was watching Slayer's stream, and as I observed him/her running about carrying logs an idea dawned on me. Wouldn't it be fun as hell if you could sharpen the end of a cut tree and just go charging into the mutants with it?
Just throwing it out here if no one knew, but you can carry two logs at the same time.
Also if you're crouched inside of your hunting shelter try not to stand up and crouch repeatedly or you'll fly into the air and die. I learned this while I had set up camp at the worst location ever. Constant sounds of the cannibals eating corpses, around 7-8 cannibals all in a single file line just passing through the area every 3 minutes, no idea what that was about, and barely any animals.

For some reason, I was unable to use any melee items in a cave (I got falcon-punched by a guy holding a fire stick, went right through all my armour and health). So I just crafted infinite molotovs and fought my way out.
Also, you can't make fires in caves either so I couldn't cook anything to eat as I ventured around and almost starved. Made it out just in time to run back to my camp on the one secluded beach. On the way there, enemies must have spawned in a rock because there was a small group stuck inside one.
Well I decided to man up and give it a shot again. Survived 6 days before I died for the first time, glitched through the map in the Caves, and had to quit my run. Also murdered countless natives and made some effigies.
Pretty good run.
Also, the AI seems to break over time. After surviving around 6-8 days I saw 2 flashlight mutants in the distance, just standing still. I ran up to them and they started running in circles, if I went near one, it would try to attack me, then continue running in circles. Later a lone mutant noticed me on the beach, and just stood still. Not attacking me or anything. So I shoved a stick up his ass. (See post #1065)
Wow I had the most comedic movie-style death ever.
I was looting some tents while starving with no food, everything was going well, when a pack of 5 or so cannibals appeared and surrounded me in a circle. I flipped shit and started running back to my camp with them hot on my ass, hearing their footsteps directly behind me. I ended up running through some brush and falling down a rockface I didnt see and died.
Wow, I just saw my first spider walking around on the ground while cutting trees. I didn't even know there were spiders.
Does anyone else not like the 'wake up in a cave' thing? Personally, I like 1 chance, which is why I just quit there. Maybe in hardcore mode?
I also saw a spider walking around on the beach before. It walked into a log on the ground and actually pushed the log out of the way with its spider strength
Yeah, I was collecting rocks near the beach at one point and when I lifted one up a spider like popped out of my chest. I kinda freaked for a moment (I do not like spiders.) and then tried to bash it to death with a rock while it shoved another rock around.

This guy was literally invincible.
He would always walk toward me and then start walking around me in a circle. Well, I like to stand next to my fire when I'm surrounded by cannibals and he walked into my fire. Like 5 or 6 times. He would never stagger from being on fire or anything. He would just follow me around and circle me.
Killed my first cannibal.
Then ran home, saved, and quit.
I think I will wait until its further along with its development before I play again. The reason? I just had the most epic but frustrating last stand I ever had in a game.
I just finished building my nice little fortress surrounded by walls and such (after almost dieing of hunger, apparently rabbits are bugged so you can't eat them after placing them on the fire and it makes cooking lizards impossible) When the familiar yell of the cannibals ran out.
Turning around, I saw one rushing through the entrance (didn't have time to build a totem/traps yet) and in a panic managed to hit him with the flare gun. However, I heard running behind me, two others were wading through a pond into a area I did not fence off. Again, panic mode activated I swung my flare gun around and in one lucky shot managed to get them both as they exited the pond and ran towards me.
I didn't have time to catch my breath however, as now their was another three rushing the entrance. I landed a lucky hit with a Molotov, catching two on fire and finishing the third with my trusty axe. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I see four more spawn in the middle of my camp. Molotoved them easily since they were in a group, only to see two more groups of 4 spawn out of thin air. Now i'm lagging like hell, but managed to take out two more before they overwhelmed me. My last sight was seeing yet another group spawn in the middle of my camp.
Is this intentional? I'm all for challenge, and the sort of situation that the cannibals attack in large numbers to run you off your base. But spawning them in until I'm gone? Hell no, that's just frustrating. If I can defend my camp against a larger group than I deserve to stay there dammit!
What they should do is have those roving packs act as scouts, they find you, observe you, then run away when you notice them. Thats your cue to either move camp or prepare traps. They then return with a larger party varied in number and then attack.
Did you by any chance build your base in one of their camps? I did that once and I later noticed that patrols spawn there at night.

Nope, I followed that map someone made on steam and set up camp at one of their recommended sites It was on a plot of land that connects a small island to the mainland. Plus the attack was during the daytime.
I thought the mutants were supposed to be finite, or is that just for later on in development?

Doing some more streaming if anyone wants to come watch.
So before I went to sleep like on my 3rd night I heard that "BRRR" noise that plays everytime you encounter the cannibals/mutants
I woke up to the sound of footsteps and growling around my home

I think I just shat my fucking pants, I went to go gather one final log from the closest tree and I come back to my dwelling and I hear the "BRRR" sound again, I look directly to my left and there are 4 mutants right infront of my house, I should have hit the screenshot button but I didn't.
