Roster lock rules, Valve is prioritizing those over EG being last year's champions.
They switched Bulba for Universe and Aui for Zai after roster lock.

It's because they traded players inside the roster lock, but it was also after both teams were KO'd of Manila.
Secret and EG are not even playing in any other tournaments until TI except for Nanyang. They're not going to StarLadder/i-League and they're not going to The Summit.

Pretty sad the armlet timing is sometimes faster than what I can get mid considering the punishment people dish out on alch and general indifference of teammates. I'd say one in ten alch games I get a support that makes stacks somewhere (I always do my own, but extra never hurt). Near every game there are one, often two people repeatedly ganking mid. Mind you, jungling undisturbed with alch is pretty much a fantasy also.

that works great when you're laning against a braindead timber who can't dodge shadow poison, and also if you magically started the game at level 5 so that it actually deals damage

The literally only reason to pick Shadow Demon is all his skills not titled "shadow poison"

If you picked Shadow Demon to harass a Timbersaw and ruin his day with Shadow Poison, there's a hero called Skywrath who does that better.

You can reach level 6 with Tranquils Basi Blightstone by around 4:40 if you jungle properly.
He's actually the fastest jungler in the game, which is fantastic since he's never had a good spot on the map before, needing some XP and levels but not enough to truly justify mid or safelane farm.

We had a jungle Veno that wasn't doing bad, but he didnt come out of the jungle until after level 11
