I wish that ZeniMax company would disappear already. Apart from suing Oculus, they do virtually nothing but have a stupid name.
Well... They publish Bethesda games... That's kind of a big deal.
I mean I wish I could try robo recall with revive if the oculus site would even allow me to buy things. I guess they don't want my money because I just keep getting payment errors.
Price drop is pretty fantastic but... how? I mean it's completely unverifiable but didn't they say they were already selling the rift at a loss before? Are they just deciding to take a serious gamble and hope this boosts software sales or did they find a way to seriously cut costs in manufacturing?

They're using a fairly standard OLED matrix, fairly standard IMUs, fairly standard injection molding techniques. With advances in manufacturing, their costs have probably just dropped over the past year across their supply chain, and now that's being passed on. Or Facebook money. That's also a possibility.
Well it's been nearly a year since the original launch. I assume it's cheaper now.

“His job has basically been to go and work our supply chain,” Rubin said of Hartmann’s role. “We didn’t have that at Oculus when we first came out. We came out with a product that was done by a bunch of engineers who said ‘what does this cost?’ We heard an answer from the manufacturers and we paid that cost. But Hans’ entire career has been going back to manufacturers and saying ‘come on’… we didn’t’ have that capability until Hans came in.” A decrease in component prices for Oculus is “part of the difference in price,” according to Rubin. “A year is when we always intended to take a serious look at price,” he said. “We figured for the first year price wasn’t going to be the biggest determining factor [for consumers]…We think at this point price is a major factor so it’s the right time for us to focus on this…We are very comfortable with this price. It’s sustainable.”
Managed to get Robo Recall to purchase properly, now downloading. Will keep you guys updated if you're curious if it works with Revive or not. If it doesn't I'll have Ripcoil to fuck with at least :v:
This is the LG headset https://uploadvr.com/gdc-2017-hands-lgs-steamvr-headset/
Two panels (one for each eye) with a resolution of 1440 by 1280 each OLED display from LG 3.64 inches diagonal 90 Hz refresh rate
[t]http://horobox.reager.org/u/orkel_1488427971.jpg[/t] [t]http://horobox.reager.org/u/orkel_1488417473.jpg[/t] [t]http://horobox.reager.org/u/orkel_1488464300.jpg[/t]
Not psyched about them also doing controllers. However, I'm loving the smooth design with the sensors behind the translucent cover. Can't wait for the "flipping" up functionality either as putting the Vive on my forehead time after time during development gets super annoying.
Looks pretty gnarly. Glad we're getting more competition for VR, it's healthy and promotes innovation. [editline]1st March 2017[/editline] Robo Recall is being a bit of a bitch to run at the moment because Revive tries to open the mod installer instead of the actual game.
That looks super swish. I love it. I do worry about market saturation when content is still so low, but VR is probably sticking around this time, so content should fill in.
Also, the Unreal Engine editor now has mesh modelling. You can create models in VR, in the editor, and place them around your scene just like that.
Definitely giving that a shot when I get home. Is it sculpting or vertex-based?
Not sure. Check out 1:20:00-> on their stream: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/125625961 [editline]1st March 2017[/editline] And I'm not sure if it's publically available yet
So, quick PSA: robo recall seems to work perfectly fine with Revive. Just need to use the Inject function to get it to open. Game's fairly demanding on hardware and has some safeguards that don't need to exist for vive users (it requires you to face forward because Oculus only has one sensor) but it otherwise works as intended.
Here: https://uploadvr.com/price-reduction-for-oculus-rift-and-touch-600/
Alright so it's at least in good part working on their manufacturing chain, but it could also partially just be adding loss to sales (at other posters, yeah some components could have come down in cost but not anywhere approaching $200)
This is the LG headset https://uploadvr.com/gdc-2017-hands-lgs-steamvr-headset/ [t]http://horobox.reager.org/u/orkel_1488427971.jpg[/t] [t]http://horobox.reager.org/u/orkel_1488417473.jpg[/t] [t]http://horobox.reager.org/u/orkel_1488464300.jpg[/t]
Neat, higher resolution than the vive and rift, and the flip up is cool. Not really crazy about the wand-alikes but I guess they seem fine enough. Not much to say otherwise, seems to be a slightly higher resolution vive that may or may not be less/more comfortable and cheaper/more expensive.
It looks heavy
It looks heavy
tbh all vr headsets look heavy, we have to wait until they give us the weight of the thing to judge it.
Wonder if you can get the headset without the controllers/base stations.
Wonder if you can get the headset without the controllers/base stations.
the base stations is what lets the headset work no matter if its a oculus webcam or a steamvr lighthouse
Wonder if you can get the headset without the controllers/base stations.
Why? It'd be just a useless piece of plastic and electronics then.
Wonder if you can get the headset without the controllers/base stations.
Like, a Rift DK1? :v:
Is Robo Recall only available for new Touch owners? I was looking forward to get Superhot VR and this game and I don't want to choose between them.
I think he means so that they could be used with the Vive's base stations/controllers that people already own :v:
Is Robo Recall only available for new Touch owners? Once your controllers are activated, Robo Recall is added to your store account for free. Vive owners can buy it for $30
tbh all vr headsets look heavy, we have to wait until they give us the weight of the thing to judge it.
Rift looks like one of those eye covers for sleeping. It's by far the most elegant design. Vive with the new strap looks like it is some kind of military helmet.
I think he means so that they could be used with the Vive's base stations/controllers that people already own :v:
Yes thank you Timebomb lol. It be silly to have to set up two pairs base stations. The headset and controllers look like they have the same setup as the Vive so I don't see why it wouldn't work. It's possible the controllers wouldn't be compatible since they need to talk to the headset, but the base stations are independent.

Like you can't pass your controller to another player mid-game or anything. You also can't run two HMDs on one computer (at least not normally supported).
I'm fairly sure their paired to the HMD through blue tooth. It just depends if LG wants to allow the HTC controllers to be paired or vice versa. I'd be willing to upgrade to an LG headset for $600 if it means I can keep the same base stations and controllers. It would also be a benefit for LG since HTC has better infrastructure for the controllers with the pucks and new controllers coming out in the future.
