I haven't broken or even punched anything while playing GORN. I'm personally really good with staying "grounded" in one location in my playspace, and nearly never run into any issues like that.
It's another story when other people are playing my vive. I get so absent minded about where I'm standing and end up getting decked multiple times.
I hit my front desk once while playing Gorn and that was it.
The most damage I've done was knock some really old tat over from a shelf when playing Waltz of the Wizard.

Mine was punching my dad in the face as he was walking by... He ended up in the floor :v:
edit:
on the floor -.-
Back in my original setup in my bedroom, I was playing the final approach bag throwing minigame and punched out one of my Phillips Hue bulbs. It was not a cheap mistake

I hit my ceiling fan hard enough to knock it off kilter.
Why do so many Americans have ceiling fans?
Why do so many Americans have ceiling fans?
We've got ceiling fans up here as well, and from memory I think every house I've lived in has had at least one too.
It's nice for the hot summers..
Why do so many Americans have ceiling fans?
cultural norm in architecture since the appliance revolution in the 60's, pretty much. It's just expected, even in cooler regions. Personally I think they just get in the way and are relatively annoying when actually turned on, from being too blustery to always ending up slightly off-kilter and producing a repetitive sound in one form or another.
On the plus side, buggers do actually cool you off during warmer months and reduce the need to use AC units (especially when they used to be less available, and still remain hella noisy). It also lets you circulate air a bit more uniformly through the house, reducing the need to pump more heat/cooled air in when it all pools at the ceiling/floor
Why do so many Americans have ceiling fans?
it's like a AC without the huge electric bill
Why do so many Americans have ceiling fans?
Gets hot in the spring and summer, I'll take whatever method of moving air I can get.
Why do so many Americans have ceiling fans?
Poor ventilation and cheap insulation, endemic of the Reagan-era housing boom.
When craftsmanship in housing took a dive, and cheap labor and materials became common, functions formerly accomplished by architects and the house itself were offloaded onto consumer appliances. Many houses built in the earlier half of the 20th century, for instance, are designed with some degree of passive cooling in mind, either through the use of windows to create crossbreezes, or just reducing the total exposed area along the path of the sun.
When it became cheaper to build larger, less-efficient houses, and HVAC became the default solution, those practices died off, leaving us with ceiling fans and poorly-planned air conditioning. It's just expected that houses will have lackluster air conditioning now, so ceiling fans are used to move air instead.
How do you all get so immersed in VR that you smash stuff? Probably harder for me since I have barely any space and know it constantly...

You'll join the club sooner or later
Why do so many Americans have ceiling fans?
Because it's fucking hot and humid and shitty in Florida 80% of the year and I can get away with setting the thermostat much higher than I would otherwise. Not having a fan to help cool off is almost as absurd a concept to me as not having AC, and yet I know there's people who live in colder climates that just don't need it.
It also has the very pleasant benefit of quietly making some white noise so I don't go insane from the tinnitus ringing in my ears.
I hit my wall once, but that's because it was my first time in my new apartment where the space is way less than it used to be.

I don't think I've ever removed my headset and not gotten completely disoriented by the sudden change in rotation and position from where I first put it on. You really lose sense of where you are even with chaperone boundaries
On that note I don't know how I'd live without the front facing camera. Being able to double click a button and see the outside world just seems essential to what's effectively a blindfolded experience. Maybe it's easier to deal with with the Rift since it's lighter and has rigid straps, and is thus easier to remove
This game is fun too

Robo Recall is pretty good with this. It keeps you aware of your direction not only with boundaries, but also with a forward facing arrow below you at all times, and directional arrows that appear when you're turned around. The ISS mission on the other hand... that shit left me completely disoriented the moment my headset was off.
And yeah, the Rift is pretty easy to take on and off. I wouldn't mind a camera though
The Rift's nose gap has been so helpful in keeping me oriented I find it hard to criticise it as a design flaw :v:

I don't ever notice it when playing games, but it's there when I need it.
It's the poor mans passthrough camera :v:

Like you said, I use my ceiling fans in the summer mostly but for the winter months there's a reverse option, instead of sucking the hot air up and away, you keep it in the lowest setting in the opposite direction and it blows the heat down from the ceiling
Anyway, I finally got Onward and I can't believe I waited this long to buy it
Why don't more game let you move freely with the controllers? After playing 2 hours of Serious Sam TFE VR it was so refreshing not having to teleport everywhere. A game like Robo Recall could greatly benefit with free movement.

I really like it when games give you the option. It's understandable that some people just totally cannot deal with it, and that's fine, but aside from babying consumers like they're too stupid to know what settings they can handle the only problem I can really see with providing the option is additional balancing work really
There will probably be a mod for Robo Recall out already that enables free movement, It would be a pretty simple thing to do in UE4.

There already is one that simulates the movement from Onward. https://forums.oculus.com/community/discussion/50243/roborecall-locomotion-mod-v1

I see this argument a lot, but you have to keep in mind that a movement system is far more integral to a game's design than what you usually get in an options menu.Take the mod that allows for free movement in Robo Recall mentioned above, I've seen people report that the robot AI deals poorly with it. The game's design expect you to remain stationary when fighting.

That's a totally fair point if that's the case, I just would've expected the robots AI to already be decent at chasing you around when moving given Touch supports roomscale now and this is an AA game. Out of curiosity, if you have a large roomscale setup and you just move quickly in circles do the robots kinda phone it in there too?
