Is the endless mode kind of randomized or no?
In short, it's randomized.
Levels have various places you can stand, and once you kill a certain amount of enemies you get the option to warp to the next point, which is randomly picked. Usually these places will have something you can duck behind, but that only helps so much when 10 baddies are swarming you.
The enemies also come at you randomly, and with random gear.
Just tried this today; Joshua Bell violin performance + piano VR video, but you can actually move in the VR environment, as opposed to normal 360 videos. The environment is actually VR, not just textured skybox
Quite amazed. Not sure if the usage of this technique is widespread yet.
Sony used its FDR-X1000V action cameras to capture video and rendered the full scene in 3D. This means that viewers can not only look around, but they're free to move around the room as well thanks to PSVR's positional tracking. Of course, having the audio adapt as you change positions is equally as important and that's just what Sony has done here. Using specially placed microphones to capture sound, positional audio tracking changes what you hear as you navigate Air Studios' Lyndhurst Hall in London. If you move closer to the artist, you can hear more detail from the violin. If you back away, you get more of the natural reverb and overall sound of the room.

The company explains that capturing something like this would typically take a lot more equipment. However, this setup allows for a less cumbersome method for documenting an informal event in VR
Glad Sony took up VR. Their tech is definitely useful for its advancement.
Their patents, more like. As long as it stays locked to their headsets, no one has any benefit from it.

Short answer is yes, bringing full real life scenes into vr with the ability to move around them is practically ancient by now, but this is the first time I've heard of someone doing it with a non-static scene
There's a lot of experimentation in "Videogrammetry" going on, with the most interesting being Litro's insane VR camera monster thing. Basically a camera that captures video with 3D information - which even works if you move your head, it somehow gets volumes of objects.
Smaller teams are just using standard photogrammetry algorithms and adapting them for video, with pretty poor results. This is by far the best example I've seen, but I suspect it's not as simple as "video-photogrammetry."
I've finally got free time. Now what should I try out and what are these VR chat applications people are talking about?

n64 controller prototype
A few days late, but my rift and touch controllers have arrived. Downloading the drivers right now. Can't contain my excitement!
Other than the content Bitches recommended, is there anything I should get to show first-time-in-VR friends?
Call me sadistic but I always put people on Richie's plank experience first.

Richie's plank experience is great because it pretty much eliminates any doubt one may have about VR. Whether it's a seasoned gamer who knows VR well but hasn't tried it, or someone of an older generation who thinks video games are still pixel-based, the immediate terror of staring down that suspended plank is going to get a physical reaction out of pretty much anyone.

If you're having friends over to play ever, audioshield was a big hit with our group. Pretty great workout if you're playing the harder difficulties too

Definitely The Plank, TheBlu is really awesome too for first time users.
Once they're ready to actually play something, Gorn is lots of fun and really simple to get into as well, plus it's freeeeeeeeee.
But keep a really close eye on them because Gorn has claimed the lives of a lot of controllers, TVs, walls, roofs, lights, figurines, fists, etc. The developer is even keeping a running tally on all the things people have broken playing Gorn.

the vr chat that everyone was talking about is just a vr chatroom on steam. it's just called vrchat. also, you should try out audioshield. in my opinion it is the best vr game at the moment. the free vr experiences i really liked that you should consider trying are the lab, rec room, google earth vr, and the cubicle (which is criminally underrated, especially for first-time vr users)
Rec Room best game hands down.

I couldn't find Gorn in Oculus store or steam store. Is it independent?

Does GORN work with the Vive?
The gorn discord was giving out steam keys for a beta version or something.
The itch.io version got an update as well with the new arena I think
Arizona Sunshine worth the $40?

I liked it enough to not refund it, so yea.
Campaign is like 4 hours or something like that.

2 months into Vive ownership, Gorn is my most-played game by a mile.
Just noticed the update on itch.io :excited:
Does the itch.io version have locomotion yet?
Does the itch.io version have locomotion yet?
Yeah, it's kind of a weird locomotion system. You press the touchpad to grab hold of space with your hand, and then you drag yourself forward. It works but it's a bit awkward to use in combat, and you can't move that fast.
The new weapons are awesome though. 3D models + lighting are also much nicer. Spear is still retarded and folds in half permanently for no reason, but the new weapons make up for it.
Also, you can skip the tutorial at the start by pressing F5.
There's also a stabbing spike, which I use in CQC fashion, held backwards and used to stun an opponent for a takedown.
Also you can go full Doom marine now and rip limbs and heads off with your !!BARE HANDS!!
I put this on and spent a good half hour just going full prison-fight on dudes:

The stabbing spike is my favourite! It's fuckin awesome
The spear would be my favorite if the hitboxes for the armour weren't oversized, I mean aiming to stab between the joints should be a viable strategy.
