just bought a ton of vr games on steam cuz of the discounts time to party also found this really cool 3D Modelling Sculpting program, wish it had more features but its pretty cool for what it does (and its free) http://store.steampowered.com/app/571890/
i got $40 in my steam account and i want to buy one of these serious sam vr games. now that there is the first and second encounter, which one has more content? which should i buy?
Second Encounter has much more variety, but they're both awesome games.

Compared to The First Encounter it has three different settings, few extra weapons and enemies, but the overall length of the games is around the same. But really you should play them in order. TFE is fantastic by itself and TSE just builds on it, similar how Doom 2 builds on Doom 1.

Dunno when orders will catch up or if they already have but the vives being manufactured now are slightly lighter than the rift
The Vive Pre, and the first consumer headsets to ship, weighed in around 550 grams (1.21 pounds); a 15% reduction in the latest headsets rolling off the manufacturing line brings the weight down to 468 grams (1.03 pounds), putting the device right on par with the Oculus Rift’s 470 grams.
Never had an issue with the weight myself but it's nice anyhow. Really keen on hearing more about the new lighthouses, but I haven't heard anything on that in a while
I remember the original version of serious sam had some pretty amazing anti-gravity stuff that they removed in the HD version, forget exactly what it was but it was a bit of a shitty change
I remember the original version of serious sam had some pretty amazing anti-gravity stuff that they removed in the HD version, forget exactly what it was but it was a bit of a shitty change
There were some areas where you and enemies could walk on ceilings, and I remember there was a spinning cylindrical room in TSE. It may have fancier graphics, but HD releases are inferior in my book. Never played them even though I bought them.
[vid]https://thumbs.gfycat.com/BrilliantHotDamselfly-mobile.mp4[/vid]
The DK2 weighed even less but felt like a ton more with its flimsy weight distribution.
Though that is mostly front-facing weight without the rigid audio strap, which brings it back to weighing more.
Yeah they say that in the article too, I'm not all that concerned with the built in audio as we usually do VR here as parties with friends so the audio goes to speakers (especially with audioshield) but I would definitely like a rigid strap. Out of all the headsets I've worn though (including the rift and vive ofc) the hololens still has the best mounting system by far, which it needs because it has a really extreme centre of mass. I just weighed on of ours at 591 grams, so it's definitely the heaviest of the headsets. It's still incredible though as it has the whole computer and battery that lasts many hours in there
The DK2 weighed even less but felt like a ton more with its flimsy weight distribution.
Dunno if flimsy is the right word, something could be extremely rigid but still have a harsh centre of mass. Torque is definitely what you're going to feel more than the straight up weight though, yeah. Dunno if it's any different between the rift and vive, I guess I have the tools around our offices to measure things like that but in it's probably pretty similar
it was 100$ off yesterday ($699 or 140$ a month instead of 150$) hope you got that discount from amazon
I remember the original version of serious sam had some pretty amazing anti-gravity stuff that they removed in the HD version, forget exactly what it was but it was a bit of a shitty change
IIRC those gravity scenes had to be changed because their new engine didn't have support for the gravity direction changes, and it would've been a shitload of overhaul work to be done just for three rooms in the game so they just changed them a bit.

The fancier graphics goes into also supporting a far better resolution as well. Having played both, though, there are things that the original does a little better level wise because of them removing some shit, though its generally pretty much the same tbh. really there isn't that much of a difference. I think no one would be surprised to see SS4 have full VR support so that'd be stellar [editline]6th April 2017[/editline] also, if I have SSTFE/TSE VR and someone has the NON-VR version. Can I still play with them with the Vive while they just play it normally? Or do they need the VR version? they don't have a headset so :v:

Changing the resolution and FOV is just a simple config file edit, and I prefer the overall more cartoony look. Some people like to play remasters, but I am the opposite. The original games are the ones I have fond memories of playing, so I like to revisit them directly. As for the VR/non VR question, that will be possible with the Fusion update later on:
Serious Sam Fusion 2017 will enable a lot of cool new features, like a common workshop and cross-game mods. All of the games can be started from one application, so you can jump between playing The First Encounter level to a Serious Sam 3 level and back without exiting the game. When listing game servers, servers playing TFE, TSE, SS3 – will all appear in the same list and you can vote map across games if you want. Oh, and VR games will be able to be played in multiplayer together with their flat counterparts! Since there are so many changes and exciting new features, we'll just go ahead a list them here as bullet points.
the sims vr when i want to waste away my after-work hours pretending to be an adult instead of just being an adult
Ok, I got my rift and touch setup and was messing with various apps, having a blast so far, only thing is I'm trying to play H3VR and the height isn't right. I'm like a toddler who can't see over the kitchen counter :v:
H3 works for Oculus? It only shows the vive logo on Steam.
Yeah, I dunno. It just worked for me. All I did was install SteamVR and it works except for the height issues i'm getting.
Oculus has a shitton of floor issues it seems, in Rec Room most Oculus users are just a bit taller than they should be.
Oculus has a shitton of floor issues it seems, in Rec Room most Oculus users are just a bit taller than they should be.
People don't always seem to calibrate it correctly. At least they fixed the bug from a few versions back where your floor height mysteriously dropped.
Found floor fix that adds advanced settings, seems to have fixed my problem.
Oculus has a shitton of floor issues it seems, in Rec Room most Oculus users are just a bit taller than they should be.
Oculus fixed them a while back in their SDK. Most floor issues are caused by SteamVR/OpenVR wonkyness.
H3 works for Oculus? It only shows the vive logo on Steam.
It's geared primarily toward vives, but it still has support for touch and room-scale oculus stuff at the very least.
Floor mismatches are definitely a SteamVR thing. Yesterday I set up my vive and the floor was a good 1-2ft below where it should be. Thank god for advanced settings' quick floor fix.
the sims vr when i want to waste away my after-work hours pretending to be an adult instead of just being an adult
No but seriously I'd love to play games like The Sims in VR, with that "eye in the sky" feel Holy shit this is actually a great idea, I'd love this

Fuck the Sims VR, when do we get Black and White VR? I'm still pissed Microsoft never tapped Lionhead to make a Black and White spinoff using Kinect. Come on, it's such a simple idea!
