Upside to eye tracking alongside Foveated rendering would be for more accurate depth of field emulation, right? Although it would natively blur anything not in focus, could be used to exaggerate something like looking over a ledge
oh holy fuck this is huge It's a shame that not much is gonna support it for now
Yeah I don't see many things supporting it until it comes built into the headsets.
I thought one of the biggest advantages of eye-tracking would be being able to run a higher screen resolution (4K?) screen in the HMD with foveate-centric rendering? I guess I'm a bit out of the loop, what'd be some of the advantages of adding eye tracking to a HMD that has a screen resolution that already runs without problems? Just neat in-game tricks like DoF?

The only issue with these add-ins is that it's not exact eye tracking like the Fove. If you look at the dev videos you can see it just figures out which direction from the centre you are looking. So it probably won't be any good for depth of field or interacting with menus.

This implies it actually does track the eyes, if you look at how the focussed area moves around near the beginning. The first dev video just clarifies that the individual sensors are working, as far as I can tell.
Apparently the Khronos OpenXR group had a meetup in Amsterdam in the past few days, while getting drunk during Koningsdag. These are some of the folks building the new VR API :v:
Programmers need to have fun too
So apparently Bundle Stars is doing a VR bundle. Anyone know if any of this shit is good? I've seen like, King Kaiju but nothing else.
Those all look so damn mediocre tbh
None of these look particularly appealing to be perfectly honest.

I haven't tried all of them yet but I got the bundle because I like adding game after game to my library, and it comes with a 20% discount off another VR purchase, which I used to buy an already discounted Arkham VR. So consider that, if you're looking to pick up the bamham vr experience. King Kaiju is alright, for the record. Fun little stress reliever at best, neat demo experience at worse. [editline]30th April 2017[/editline] Although, if you want to check out King Kaiju, I already owned it when I bought the bundle, so I have a spare key. Let me know if you want it, even if the game is only 5 bucks.

Microsoft is not in the OpenXR group so I wonder if they'll adopt it :/
Microsoft is not in the OpenXR group so I wonder if they'll adopt it :/
If they don't it will be something of a failure for VR as a whole.
https://www.vrfocus.com/2017/04/acer-reveal-upcoming-windows-10-vr-headset/ How about no
Yep. Already a failure.

I think it would be a lot neater if you could act with other players instead.
I think it would be a lot neater if you could act with other players instead.
its still in a limited alpha so i can assume they will probably add all that stuff
https://www.vrfocus.com/2017/04/acer-reveal-upcoming-windows-10-vr-headset/ How about no
What would drive such a dumb decision? They're already at a disadvantage with being late to the hardware party, while at least one of their competitors has a fucking interest-free payment plan that's a really decent monthly price, and they shoot themselves in the foot by destroying any chance of having a decent games library because now it's locked down to a specific platform of which nobody's really bothered making "real" games for even on the regular monitor-based market. [sp]All but 2 of the list on the top are made by Microsoft and all but one on the bottom is a mobile game (of which five are made by the same developer), with the one that isn't being Roblox, which is now Microsoft-owned.[/sp]
Chet Faliszek has left Valve :/ He was doing pretty much all their VR evangelism, plus probably played a big role in whatever VR games they said they were developing. Wonder who will pick up the slack. I love watching people play VR, it's fascinating to think what they're doing...
He says "who knows what will happen when the brain drops" and when it does the video playback glitches; the progress bar gets to the end, but there is still sound. I love Bug Screen and all, but fuck I hope they optimize it better soon. It nearly maxes out my 4690k and it makes it nearly impossible to play demanding games like GTA5 ontop of it.
Looks like Matt Scott left Oculus recently to rejoin Valve as a Game Designer
Looks like Matt Scott left Oculus recently to rejoin Valve as a Game Designer
It's good to see they're still bringing in VR devs even though Chet's out.
It's good to see they're still bringing in VR devs even though Chet's out.
They've been hiring a lot of gameplay developers the past 2 years despite what the memes say. Hopefully we'll hear something soon before they move their offices.
It's good to see they're still bringing in VR devs even though Chet's out.
Given GabeN's commitment to the medium, I very VERY seriously doubt that Valve is doing less with VR due to Chet leaving. Chet was certianly the main public face for Valve's VR endevors (and he did a great job), but he's a writer, not a programmer or hardware engineer. I dont think his departure is really going to put a dent in Valve's progress when push comes to shove.
