They played VR on a laptop?
Funny that you mention that. [t]http://i.imgur.com/vmoUIqN.jpg[/t] This thing has a GTX 1070. It outclasses my desktop :v:
They played VR on a laptop?
My laptop has a 1060 in it, and aside from a couple of weird issues now and then it runs VR games pretty flawlessly
For our VR university project, we had a guy who had a gaming laptop that had a 980 in it which could run pretty much any VR thing we tried, it was pretty fucking great being able to take our project pretty much anywhere cause we didn't need to lug around a whole PC and monitor and all that shit
Man one of those would have been nice rather than having to carry my whole setup to my University and leave it all in a lab for 2 days..
Of course, we did need to carry 2 big camera tripods to mount the Vive lighthouses so I guess that ended up balancing that out.
That the MSI one? I got one recently for deployment, but I logiced it in my head that I can use it in a future VR room
Yeah it's MSI. The ones with a GTX 1060 or better are usually marked as 'VR ready'. The main requirement is to have the external HDMI directly connected to the dedicated graphics card, and not the Intel integrated one (which is usually done for Optimus-enabled laptops).

Had a helluva time with its graphics though, almost returned the damn thing. Had to flash a new vbios

I usually get Asus laptops and a lot of things have been horrifically shoddy about the MSI one I got despite the obviously fairly solid performance. The frame isn't exactly all that solid, the Optimus (while it doesn't happen when connected to an external monitor) causes enormous lag spikes and seemingly turns on and off at random (which can actually cause frequent crashes in some games), the pre-installed bloatware actually fight with each other for control of the keyboard settings and sometimes lead to flickering and nonsense, and once my CPU fan just stopped working for a week or two and I thought I'd have to send it away for a month to get fixed but it just randomly started working again. I only bought the MSI one because it was well priced and there was no Asus release in sight, but we got one from Asus for our office and it exhibits none of these problems and the only thing it's lacking from the MSI laptop is the flashy LED backlighting that I really could do without
Neat, I've got a 1070 one. Mine's a GT62VR. Doesn't even have Optimus. Don't remember there being any real bloatware. Build quality seems fine too.
What model MSI did you get? Mine's a GT62VR. Doesn't even have Optimus. Don't remember there being any real bloatware. Build quality seems fine too.
GE72VR. Both the steelseries manager and the "dragon centre" try and control the keyboard causing the previous problems (uninstalling DC let me control the keyboard lighting but left me without some other options etc and reinstalling it the problem didn't really re-appear). There was a tonne of bloatware but I don't remember most of it. Something called "ahamic" or similar severely damaged the sound quality (scratchy noises and abysmal quality in general) which made me think they arrived damaged, other people on some some forums had the same problem. The build quality is a lot better on their aluminum laptops (coworker got one) and it's not a total disaster or anything but the a lot of it feels pretty flimsy
https://uploadvr.com/samsung-uhd-display/
It’s going to be years until display resolutions are clear enough for VR to look like real life, but we’re inching ever forward. It looks like Samsung might be announcing the next step in that journey today. Reports from Yonhap News and The Korean Herald state that Samsung is expected to reveal a new 1.96 inch UHD 3840×2160 display at the Society for Information Display 2017 event in Los Angeles. The screen reportedly featured 2250 pixels-per-inch and is designed for VR. Perhaps we could see two of these panels placed inside future headsets from Samsung or Oculus, which has partnered with the company to create the Gear VR.
And by helluva I time I mean the graphics card was literally crashing when under high load. Turned out it was clocked too high out of the factory. Doesn't have optimus either so I think you're SOL
https://uploadvr.com/samsung-uhd-display/
Haven't those super-high-res micro displays been around for a while? From what I remember reading, they're not easy to scale up to a HMD suitable format. Smaller formats have issues with the required optics.

https://uploadvr.com/hands-on-with-emagins-2k-prototype-hmd/ That is a 2x2k per eye prototype HMD which uses small displays, and had 110 degree FoV. This was 2 years ago. They are announcing their newest display today: http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20170516005499/en/ [editline]23rd May 2017[/editline] They are not making a HMD of their own, but are in contact with several major companies that want to use their technology (AMD said in 2016 that they've worked with eMagin for 18 months)
eMagin will not bring a HMD to market (they want to sell displays ) but is currently working with other & looks like someone will have something soon . Here are some select comments from eMagin 1Q CC : Andrew Sculley - "One company is funding a next-generation display* that we are currently developing, another is actively involved in discussions and for whom we have done preliminary work and the third is keenly interested in our current 2Kx2K design. In addition several companies have come back to us for discussions that had been silent during the first quarter." Jeffery Lucas - "this increase is reflected at the level of activity related to our partnering projects that have necessitated higher legal and other professional service costs, as we negotiate with prospective partners and draft various agreements associated with these partnerships." AS - "and they understand capacity constraints et cetera. So they are pushing hard as well. So we have three companies pushing hard." AS - "All those are for commercial. They want to get a product out." AS - "The partners with whom we’re working recognize they are themselves are under very tight time constraints here in terms of when they need to get the next-generation headset out in the marketplace. And that’s why, I think, we’re seeing a very fast pace here in our discussion with them." JL - "They are chopping at a bit for our product." JL - "And they’re very excited about it."
What is this for ?
It's a macro lens from Venus Optics designed to get close to insects without scaring them away. Surprisingly, it's actually a wide angle lens at 24mm (~84° FoV) Not yet released though, but it says quite a bit about the crazy shit you can do with optics.
Nice, I seem to have gotten an email from the SuperHot devs with a VR Vive version redeemable key. I honestly was not expecting that.
Some neat VR/AR research, from a more artistic perspective.
Recently got myself an Occulus Rift, since the purchase price in Australia was brought down to a much more reasonable $800 bucks. I've been enjoying it a lot, especially getting friends and family to try it out. Superhot VR was really cool, and I think that bit [sp]when it pushes you off a building[/sp] is the only time I had to wretch the headset off in terror.
Got my 3rd sensor set up and tracking is much more precise and fluid now. Played some Pavlov and it's pretty fun, even though I suck at it :v:
Relevant to VR because of possible applications:
Relevant to VR because of possible applications:
Imagine the AR applications when all you need to do is walk around a museum and the portraits talk to you about themselves. [editline]26th May 2017[/editline] It's like FaceApp but to the extreme.
