I have an oculus DK1, is there any way to upgrade it or should I just wait a lot and get the vive?, I currently have working position tracking and two controllers using playstation moves, which work nice, but obviously the video quality sucks.
Seems you tinkered quite a bit with your old Rift already :v: The consumer Rift or Vive would be a huge jump in quality from your current setup. Whether you buy them is entirely up to your own finances.
So the NOLO team has gone into dead silence mode since June 13 and a ton of people still haven't gotten their shit or any word on shipping, despite people asking incessantly for communication on what's happening. They said wave 2 of shipping was happening last week, they never announced that it ever started, and we're on Wednesday of the next week now. People are getting their NOLOs (from the first shipment, because despite the $20 shipping cost it takes 10-20 days to ship to the U.S.), but the headsets are shipping separately and I've seen a lot of commenters asking where those were. tl;dr shit is fucked and it's looking like I'm out $120.

This standalone Gear VR-branded device is said to come equipped with and OLED display. An industry source has said that Samsung’s next generation Gear VR will arrive with its own, built-in OLED display with a pixel density of 2,000 ppi (pixels per inch), according to the South Korean website Naver. Samsung’s current Galaxy VR can deliver pixel densities of 570 and 529 ppi. Of course, the current Gear VR headsets require the displays on the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus.
Still rumours from "industry sources" though
It's a common thing with kickstarters. These people really don't prepare themselves enough, it's a shame. I hope they pull through.

The argument by Facebook's lawyers could work, but it sure doesn't make the company's defence against the original suit look any stronger.

The company “would have to hire clean-room engineers to make myriad changes not just to the code fragments ZeniMax presented at trial, but to numerous other segments of interrelated and interdependent code,” according to the Oculus filing. “The process would be lengthy, burdensome, and costly.”

Some might rephrase that as: "Our headset doesn't work without their code."

It's a common thing with kickstarters. These people really don't prepare themselves enough, it's a shame. I hope they pull through.
I'd be cool with shipping issues or "we need more time" but the thing that worries me is all they've said is: "..." and that's it. I'm just really, really scared that I wasted $120 and won't be able to get either it or what I paid for back, especially since I thought I'd done everything right and would be in the first shipment, only to be informed by other users, not the Kickstarter themselves that because I didn't put my phone number in the survey because it said "optional," I wasn't going to be in the first shipment, and because it took so long for me to become aware of that, I'm not in the second shipment either. [editline]a[/editline] I just wanna be able to do vr stuff while I save up and wait for various improvements to be made to the big two headsets.
Zenimax is a publicly-traded company worth $2.5b. Facebook's worth about $500b. I wonder if Facebook couldn't just buy Zenimax outright.
Zenimax is a publicly-traded company worth $2.5b. Facebook's worth about $500b. They're currently already greedy fucks, causing stupid legal battles, and signing exclusivity deals. If Facebook took over, the only one of those I might predict based on their handling of Oculus is possible exclusivity stuff, but I'd take having to use thirdparty bullshit to get SkyrimVR working on a Vive over being forced to buy a whole other fucking peripheral, the worst of the three "real" headsets for tracking and non-teleportation movement, as well as being locked to a console, any day of the week.
Steam page for the Vive knuckles controller is up: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=943406651 Contains a demonstration of the strap.
Holy shit Sairento VR is fun. How is this game not discussed more often? If you haven't heard of or played this game before, I'm engaging my weekly shilling mode and heavily recommending it to you. It's got that Raw Data/Robo Recall shooty slashy robot killing arena vibe to it, with a very healthy dose of superhot. My legs have never felt more sore after a VR sesh but god damn did I have fun. [editline]22nd June 2017[/editline]
Steam page for the Vive knuckles controller is up: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=943406651 Contains a demonstration of the strap.
This is so exciting to see, I'm so keen on these new controllers. I must admit, I feel a controller design more similar to Touch would be way more comfortable for VR, and so far I think this controller design looks even better than the Touch.
While I'm excited for new controllers, makes me wonder what to do with my old ones, were I to get the knuckle controller. It looks objectively better to what we have now, so far, and obviously games won't drop the old Vive controller support, but I hope they might have some kind of like turn in program where I can sell my old controllers and get the new ones at a discount.

Strap them to your pets.
I still have my doubts about how it straps to your hand, mainly how comfortable it is after an hour of use.
Agreed, it looks very easy to strap on too tight without realizing it until the aching sets in. But I guess we can only wait and see when it comes out. I'm just so happy to have a more hand-orientated controller, finally.
I guess I'll soon have the opportunity to try them. I'll probably be swimming in experimental VR hardware when I start at Vertigo Games next month. [editline]1[/editline]
Old controllers are basically extra trackable objects. The Bluetooth on the linkbox is just for the base stations. Headset can only communicate wirelessly with 2 devices at a time, sadly. For a third wireless controller for mixed reality for example, you can either hook it up via USB (ew) or order one of those Steam Controller dongles and flashing SteamVR firmware on it so it can communicate with the SteamVR controllers. The Vive trackers works similarly, needing dongles when 2 controllers are already paired with the headset and in use.
I wish during the steam sales, that VR developers would be more agressive with their games, especially if it is multiplayer only. The fact Pavlov is going for 40% off when it was already basically nothing, while games which have been out since the day the Vive launched are giving themselves smaller discounts. I still don't think Raw Data is worth it even with 20% off. Arizona Sunshine 20% off. The Blu 15% off, Job Simulator 30% off, while both have been out since launch. I know I spent a lot of money on a Vive, but I don't want to be spending loads more on games which are barebones and still run poorly even though I have a 1070.

The horde mode is fun, but the campaign is incredibly short, so don't buy it for that.

Currently I only really play by myself, and even then rarely. It's why I haven't bothered to pick up Star Trek yet, and probably won't for a while. Shame all the single player experiences are ridiculously priced (I am looking at you serious sam!!)

I would love to have a group of people that would want to play that game. I'd jump on an Arizona Sunshine group in a heartbeat too.
What are the best VR purchases for this steam sale?
Just floated around in Serious sam and it was a fuckin' blast did that dlc they had, the extra level or whatever and I really saw how fun it is to play VR, WAY more than not in VR Being able to duck behind a wall to blind fire in the last game where that works and have it work effectively is insane. Lean mechanics work like shit in games, I never use them, but its perfectly natural in VR. [editline]23rd June 2017[/editline] I can't wait until I get to duck behind a car in Fallout with a pistol and have it work I'm deffo waiting until I can get the VR edition with all DLC for ultra cheap, then going full survivalist and getting ammo weight mods, maybe just for convienience stuff to make the "flow" better so I can auto-store junk or remove its weight and just focus on gunplay. [editline]23rd June 2017[/editline] I've been finding Serious Sam dull because i grew up on it but now I'm having fun and I'm in my underwear with weights on my wrists, sweating horribly and shaking my hands all over the place as I basically randomly flail and dance around

Are there any rumors that a new VR device might come around around the end of the year? Or soon at least. At the end of this year i might get myself a Vive/Oculus after getting my bonus from work.

2018 is the most likely release of Gen 2, maybe 2019 if unlucky. [editline]23rd June 2017[/editline] I remember someone at Oculus saying 2 years, so it might just be 2019.
