2018 is the most likely release of Gen 2, maybe 2019 if unlucky. [editline]23rd June 2017[/editline] I remember someone at Oculus saying 2 years, so it might just be 2019.
I'm expecting some major announcements at CES 2018.
Recommend picking up Sairento VR in the steam sale, out of all the shooters I bought this is the one I keep coming back to and they've already made substantial and steady progress since release in early access
Started saving up for a vive and a computer to handle it, I hope that Gen 2 is at least announced some point this year because one of my biggest fears is buying it then it gets announced a week later.

It's time for everyone's latest dose of NOLO news: they haven't sent out any further Kickstarter updates for everyone to see, but I found this in my Kickstarter messages this morning: Looks like everything's continuing as planned, albeit delayed by a week. Since I'm a poor bastard and it's looking like I'm in the next shipment, does anyone have any recommendations for free or cheap VR games (since the Summer Sale is on and all)? All the super popular ones look great and all but they're also all $30+ or ~$20 on sale and I don't have the money to go blow on like 3 or 4 games of that price.
Just floated around in Serious sam and it was a fuckin' blast did that dlc they had, the extra level or whatever and I really saw how fun it is to play VR, WAY more than not in VR Being able to duck behind a wall to blind fire in the last game where that works and have it work effectively is insane. Lean mechanics work like shit in games, I never use them, but its perfectly natural in VR. [editline]23rd June 2017[/editline] I can't wait until I get to duck behind a car in Fallout with a pistol and have it work I'm deffo waiting until I can get the VR edition with all DLC for ultra cheap, then going full survivalist and getting ammo weight mods, maybe just for convienience stuff to make the "flow" better so I can auto-store junk or remove its weight and just focus on gunplay. [editline]23rd June 2017[/editline] I've been finding Serious Sam dull because i grew up on it but now I'm having fun and I'm in my underwear with weights on my wrists, sweating horribly and shaking my hands all over the place as I basically randomly flail and dance around
Don't wear weights on your wrists. You'll fuck up your joints.
Don't wear weights on your wrists. You'll fuck up your joints.
They're super light ones, I'm not really using them other than because I want the controllers heavier so, not really going to use them for more than a few times at best. I've been looking at those controller stocks for a while and a weighted vest (But not like anything heavy) to make it feel like 'armor' (Maybe like 5 or so pounds, just enough to know its at least there) only issue is that it's so fucking hot out and I don't know if buying one of those stocks would be that worth it :v: So weighting myself down is the absolute last thing I want. [editline]23rd June 2017[/editline] there are people on reddit going full goku and wearing 20 pound vests and wrist straps for vr what :v:
Recommend picking up Sairento VR in the steam sale, out of all the shooters I bought this is the one I keep coming back to and they've already made substantial and steady progress since release in early access
I'd love to play it but the jumping mechanic, despite being the most awesome looking way to move and attack in a VR game would make me violently sick. Godamn my pre-disposition to VR sickness! [editline]23rd June 2017[/editline]
It's time for everyone's latest dose of NOLO news: they haven't sent out any further Kickstarter updates for everyone to see, but I found this in my Kickstarter messages this morning: Looks like everything's continuing as planned, albeit delayed by a week. [t]http://i.imgur.com/QgNgCIY.png[/t] What is it with all of these "Unknown" levels when I have both TFE + TSE installed its not even like this is the 'moddable' version which has no servers, I even installed almost every map in the workshop [editline]23rd June 2017[/editline] it only appears on servers with a 'shopping cart' instead of a pc icon but I have both versions :U
Actually, 99% sure its BFE but that has no VR version so fuck

Alright, just did my Steam Summer sale haul. Now because of VR, I actually have something to plunge my money into, again. Picked up... -Sairento VR -VRobot -VR The Diner Duo -Detached -Tilt Brush -Audioshield -To The Top Phew, that really buffed up my VR library. I'm psyched.

Millions of times better than god damned leap motion tbh

I want to see them grabbing things like you would normally grab something.
It was that good huh.
Oops. :v: It actually is fairly good, though. Requires good VR legs, but if you can get them, it feels pretty good. Vaguely disappointed by Audioshield, though. I thought it had dev-included songs that sync up nicely with the music, rather than what seemed to be only computer generated content (which honestly wasn't that fun).
The worst thing about the current vive controller, is gripping is piss and feels unnatural a/f [editline]24th June 2017[/editline] I'd love to change weapons by opening my palm instead of using the menu button in serious sam I'd love to never again see TRIGGER for of all things grabbing objects in games I'd love to have actual buttons on the controller instead of only a pad the new controller fixes every one of these issues and thank god for that
I want to see them grabbing things like you would normally grab something.
Looking at the video again it looks like this wouldn't work too well without knuckle colliders.
:excited:
actually thinking about it How TF are we supposed to put a stock on the knuckles controller?
oh, oops, I'm in love with that lever action gun
Hope he adds a lot more Bergmann handgun,s some of them are incredibly slick
browsing the steam store and seeing so many indie, early access "experiences" it's almost like browsing the google play store. When will the good games come? So far i'm just looking forward to PD2 VR, Serious Sam 3 VR and "maybe" Fallout 4 VR because $60 to run through that massive gapehole of disappointment again is not fun
browsing the steam store and seeing so many indie, early access "experiences" it's almost like browsing the google play store. When will the good games come? There's a ton of awesome content for VR, not just on Steam but also Oculus Home.
Look harder. There's a ton of awesome content for VR, not just on Steam but also Oculus Home.
I absolutely loathe Oculus for their practices. I have to use Revive just to play their game because it's "Exclusive to Oculus". VR playerbase is already small, it doesn't need this. The last thing I'd do is giving them money. Most of the better games has a Steam version that works for both the rift and vive anyway But the point is, I want "Games". Not "experiences" that are interesting for an hour and that's it. Currently only Serious sam TSE and TFE VR are in the right direction, and PD2VR from what they've shown during their little teaser
Look harder. There's a ton of awesome content for VR, not just on Steam but also Oculus Home.
It's very possible that there just isn't much that matches his gaming preferences. I know one of the main reasons I'm so excited for VR to keep going is because I've always loved games with a high emphasis on interactivity with the world. As a kid, I loved seeing the snow trail get created when playing SSX3, I loved just being able to pick up objects and throw them in HL2, I loved being able to pick up or take damn near every object in TES4: Oblivion, I loved the subtle detail in SiN: Emergence like being able to fuck around with paper towel dispensers, I loved the fucking euphoria physics in GTAIV/RDR even as minor as they were from a gameplay standpoint, I played a lot of "escape the room" flash games, etc. Fast forward some years and we've got shit like Surgeon Simulator and the entire point of it is high interactivity, physics-based fuckery, and I loved that. Hell, my entire gameplay history with Reciever is only an hour or so long, but that was because I got frustrated and annoyed at the gunplay and robots and darkness and etc, despite absolutely loving the whole manual weapon mechanics. So obviously the next step in this for me is being able to interact with everything, except with my own two hands. In that niche we have all kinds of shit like Job Sim, Surgeon Sim ER, Virtual Rick-ality, H3, Gorn, and all other things like that, not to mention upcoming games like FO4VR, SkyrimVR (as absolutely pissed as I am about the pricing of the first one and the exclusivity of the second), and the HL2VR mod in the works. I can't wait to play any of this shit because it's right in my niche. So my thoughts are: maybe there's just nothing specifically that applies to him? I know there's a ton of stuff to play, but not all of it is super high quality and apart from Serious Sam there isn't really anything at all that's a full-on videogame campaign like you'd expect from a non-VR game. [editline]a[/editline]
But the point is, I want "Games". Not "experiences" that are interesting for an hour and that's it. Currently only Serious sam TSE and TFE VR are in the right direction, and PD2VR from what they've shown during their little teaser
And considering this bit, I'd say I'm probably at least semi-accurate if we're including "wants full-length games" as a niche.
But the point is, I want "Games". Not "experiences" that are interesting for an hour and that's it. Currently only Serious sam TSE and TFE VR are in the right direction, and PD2VR from what they've shown during their little teaser
Yeah not going to lie it sounds like what you expect from games in general just isn't very compatible with VR as a concept, and with most of the gaming industry in general. I've checked your Steam profile and all of your most played games with the exception of Terraria are non-story based shooters, most of which are multiplayer. Most games out there aren't online shooters designed for you to spend 100+ hours into. Most games are self-contained experiences that do not exceed 10 to 20 hours of gameplay. Since VR is a platform designed for shorter bursts of gameplay due to the rather tiresome nature of motion controls and room-scale, you're obviously going to also find few long-winded games and the short story-based, self-contained ones are going to be shorter to accommodate. Still, there's some games out there that would fit what I assume are your expectations: a game about shooting things, that's not built around a story, and has a lot of replay value. • Onward • SUPERHOT • Sairento VR • Raw Data Then there's the arcade genre for VR which I didn't really look into too deeply, but it has some legitimately good stuff in it. Of course these titles are more built around repetition than anything but you have 1000+ hours in Payday 2 so I think you know what that's all about. This includes: • Thumper • Space Pirate Trainer • Audioshield • Climbey • Punch Bomb • Eagle Flight Now, shit, let's go wild and assume you're okay with playing something that's more about adventure and is less intense. Of course these are going to be shorter, and the price is obviously adjusted to reflect that, and they may be closer to what you refer to as an "experience" rather than a "game", but I'll go ahead and expect you to have an open mind. You could play: • Vanishing Realms • Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-Ality • Job Simulator • Batman: Arkham VR • Windlands • I Expect You To Die • Solus Project There's also more vehicle based stuff with a fairly different approach to gameplay, where you're going to stand still and pilot something rather than move around via any form of abstract locomotion. • Star Trek Bridge Crew • Elite Dangerous • Assetto Corsa And, keep in mind, these are all games on steam with native support. Want to get your hands dirty and throw in some unofficial VR support ? Try Euro Truck Simulator and American Truck Simulator, or Doom 3 VR. Shit, you could always just play Minecraft in VR, it's more fun than you'd think. Goes without saying that there's unreleased games as well that will come out at some point this year or the next. You mentioned fallout 4 but there's also Doom VFR. A game about gladiatorial combat, GORN, will be released soonish, but if you want to see what it's about there's a really old prototype laying around. There you go, have fun. List would be longer if you didn't immediately blacklist Oculus games but hey, that's how it is. I tried only including games you don't already have in your steam library, hence the lack of games like H3VR.
That needs to be added to the OP. Great post.
I've checked your Steam profile and all of your most played games with the exception of Terraria are non-story based shooters, most of which are multiplayer.
I never asked for non-story based multiplayer shooters for VR. Those games are for the usual PC gaming with kb/m, VR is not designed for that. I only play those after i've finished and putting 100+ hours into the usual games I played like MGSV, saints row, hitman, dead space, FNV, etc. Mainly because friends, you can't enjoy games that long without a group of friends to dick around with
Most games out there aren't online shooters designed for you to spend 100+ hours into.
Based on this I know that you judged me based on the top 3 most played games of mine. If you actually scrolled down further then you'll see that I do play single-player games that "aren't online shooters". I know their limits and what they aimed for. What I want are those kind of quality games on VR, right now those "content" people are raging about on VR are just glorified tech demos revolving around a single gimmick. And what "tiresome nature of motion controls"? I've played SS TSE in VR for nearly 3 hours a time and it's just like any other games I usually play conventionally. That's not an excuse to make short "experiences" because people who aren't gamers saying that trackpad locomotion is impossible.
Still, there's some games out there that would fit what I assume are your expectations: a game about shooting things, that's not built around a story, and has a lot of replay value.
Again, judging me based on my top 3 most played games. For Onward, it's hard enough for me to find a match in the Asia region with traditional games, let alone VR games. https://steamdb.info/app/496240/graphs/ The game's peak player count didn't even reach 100. And most of them are from the EU and US region anyway, which means 300+ ping for me Sairento and Raw Data are just horde shooters with their own gimmick. The devs have no plans to expand them into a full-fledged "game" I tried superhot and beated it in half an hour on a friend's account. What I got was rehashes of previous levels with more gimmicks. It's hardly a game
Then there's the arcade genre for VR which I didn't really look into too deeply, but it has some legitimately good stuff in it. Of course these titles are more built around repetition than anything but you have 1000+ hours in Payday 2 so I think you know what that's all about. This includes:
I have 1000+ hours because they have new content every month. New maps, new weapons, etc. And the most important factor is that the game is massively populated. Me and a friend can just host a game and countless pubbies will join and we can enjoy the game differently every time based on what the pubbies fuck up. And before you say that it's back on my "repetitive online shooter" preference. The contents are expanding on every aspects of the game. New weapons requires new skill builds for new playstyles. New maps with fully voiced acting and narrative. http://store.steampowered.com/news/?appids=418650 Meanwhile with SPT, there's only one content update back in 2016, others are just bug-fixing and PR stuff.
Now, shit, let's go wild and assume you're okay with playing something that's more about adventure and is less intense. Of course these are going to be shorter, and the price is obviously adjusted to reflect that, and they may be closer to what you refer to as an "experience" rather than a "game", but I'll go ahead and expect you to have an open mind. You could play:
I played and loved Job Sim. I can't get into and Rick and Morty because i don't watch the show and my friend bugs me to hell about that. And again, it's too short for the price tag. Once you get pass the scripted encounters, there's nothing left to do. None of the interactive objects actually have any meaningful reaction. You can throw random shit into the blender or drinking all kinds of things but that's about it. You can't experiment with things and play on your own like Garry's Mod or Terraria because the game is designed around those particular scripted scenes All the games you listed have problems that will makes me regret playing them. Except "I expect you to die", I'll definitely check that out, thanks Vanishing realms doesn't have classic locomotion. Batman Arkham VR is an interactive comic book. Windlands only has the hooks as their selling point. Solus Project has control problems
There's also more vehicle based stuff with a fairly different approach to gameplay, where you're going to stand still and pilot something rather than move around via any form of abstract locomotion.
Now you're talking my language, these are my wet dreams come true. But at the moment there aren't that many games on this genre. Bridge crew is my top priority if it wasn't for Uplay. I forgot about Elite Dangerous for some time and too bad Assetto Corsa just isn't my cup of tea, racing games just don't live well with me I'm also interested in Ironwolf VR and this here. Would be nice if someone actually made a tank sim or another Steel Battalion And yeah, because it doesn't show on my steam, my most played VR game besides H3VR and SSVR is Vivecraft. That shit is the dopest with all the roomscale interactivity and everything went so right. Thanks for the post though. You really made some solid points there. But that doesn't change the fact that right now, most content are cash-grabs surfing on the VR hype. Just my opinion but i'd think spending money on actual games are better on the long run rather than dime and nickles for the short experiences
Sairento and Raw Data are just horde shooters with their own gimmick. The devs have no plans to expand them into a full-fledged "game"
Oof. I mean, I guess. If you really want to undersell Sairento.
