I've not been this interested in a modeling program since when I was a kid first seeing Amorphium.

You should try Onward.

Omg yesss please
Why disagree? It's literally H3VR with simplified gun mechanics and actual solid FPS gameplay.

I'd love to see H3 get actual humanoid enemies though, hard to compare the two when H3's enemies are pretty lame
Omg yesss please
It would be really neat to have tabletop VR games that utilize webcams. I mean like a monitor-sized 3D pane floating near each player showing their webcam feed.
... VR games that utilize webcams. ...
I 'unno how that would work, wouldn't there be a big HMD in the way of the face?

Nope. The developer, Anton, stated that he didn't want to implement humanoid NPCs or targets, besides the IPSC gamemode in the breaching scene to test accuracy and reflex.
IIRC the reasoning was that guns are already so associated with killing people in popular media, that it'd be nice to have some realistic simulation on how guns work without having to shoot at humans or humanoids.
Although, this info was roughly around the time he added the breaching scene, so I don't know if he changed his mind, but I haven't seen any evidence that he has.

Aw man. Was there any reasoning behind it?
That's actually a huge shame.

Just edited the post with the reason.
Oh, I see.
I guess I can understand the reasoning, still seems like a shame, that would've made a pretty neat FPS. Is he planning on adding another way to get around than teleporting?

If you saw the video, you'd notice he'd added trackpad movement. And also there's a way to slide between teleports.
Also, I like how he's not gonna turn this into a generic FPS. He wanted it all to be like a solitary, firing-range mess-about kind of deal, so any enemies you'll combat are going to appear like robots made out of scrap. But from what I hear, he's going to implement stuff like the Hickok45 range, skeet shooting and most likely more minigames.

Funny how I completely failed to consider that. It didn't occur to me as a "big HMD on my face" since VR is so good nowadays.
Well, I'd still like slow paced social games to let you spawn and move about a webcam view for stuff on your desk (or even your HMD-face).
It isn't realistic for 3+ player games or games with strangers, though. You'd just get people showing their dicks.
Was that Half-Life 2vr conversion thing ever brought over to the released hmd platforms?

If you mean Valve's, sort of. I haven't heard of any real announcements for a quality HL2 conversion.

10 hours of Onward so far.
New discovery. At some point a shit load of Chinese players have begun to play. I got team killed by one and than he decided to shoot himself in the foot, giggle to himself and run around in circles.

Also I don't know if it's intentional or not but the light machines guns feel heavy because you have to hold the forward grip out so far for so long your arm gets tired.
Just wondering before I get Onward, how good is the locomotion there? Can you strafe and go backwards, or only where the HMD is facing?

You can go in any direction at any speed like a joystick, and the direction is relative to your hand. (The one you're moving with)
What do people think of onward?
I've played for < 2 hours but don't really get all the hype around it, like its a cool concept but seems way to buggy to be enjoyable. I'm one of the many people with serious performance issues (despite having a 1080 and a 3770k @ 4.5 GHz), getting a fair but of stuttering which compounds the motion sickness from the locomotion method. Also the lighting seems pretty off so most of the time at range its impossible to distinguish teammates (though I guess it could be by design).
I'm still powering ahead getting a mount/holder/gun for the controllers, anyone here got/make one? I'm basing mine off the MagHak (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1745148) and just waiting on a bipod and some stock parts to come.
I don't have anything negative to say about it. There is some buggyness since it's an early early Alpha but I think a majority of people can look past the glitches and have fun and see the future potential. The creator Dante is in and out games, super in the community and I have a lot of hope for it. He's about as passionate as Anton is for H3VR.
You're the second person I've met so far that gets motion sick. It may just be a case of getting your VR legs.
The game runs reasonably well on my Titan Black and runs well on my 1080 most of my issues are from Vive tracking or the reoccurring and known bug where if someone dies during a game everyone lags like a motherfucker for some reason. He released a patch but it didn't work completely so we're waiting for more fixes.
I'd actually like to assemble a team or clan for onward. Sometimes you get on teams where everyone talks and they understand concepts like bounding, suppressive fire and so on and other times you get games with little kids or a bunch of Chinese guys who never fucking stop talking to like six other Chinese people in their room.

I thought a good a analogy was that Onward was the Vive's Goldeneye64
Only unfortunately due to the nature of the modern games industry it's an early access alpha version of Goldeneye64
If you remember correctly without the nostalgia goggles on Goldeneye64 was also a buggy mess with shitty controls but it was the best shooter to come out up to that point on the platform which made it so beloved. People forget how clunky it was and if you sit down and play it again you'd wonder how you managed to even play.
Onward is like that. It's a solid game but it's the first of its kind on a new platform. And in Alpha.
I like Onward, i do get a little motion sickness, but not enough to have to stop, just a little wobblyness. I think it's a great concept that's executed quite well and could really become something special.
Also the community on it is super nice.
Onward fucking destroys my legs
