The Rift is currently $399. I think I'd feel a lot less bad about my purchase if I had bought it for $399. The Rift is like a solidified focus of my buyer's remorse. It still bothers me, even after nearly two years. The problem is I haven't ever bothered to invest in secondary equipment -- I cheaped out on my graphics card because 10xx's were too expensive at launch (lol), I haven't mounted my sensors, I haven't bought a good USB 3 expansion board... My experience is lackluster, and I'm about $600 from upgrading it in any meaningful way, so it just kind of sits there.
Link: https://www.oculus.com/blog/rift-touch-399-for-a-limited-time-summer-of-rifts-best-deal-yet/ It is a pretty boss deal [editline]10th July 2017[/editline] Both rift and touch included in the 399.
I don't follow VR at all really, is there any realistic speculation on the Vive 2? Do you think it'll be worth waiting at this point?
£399 in the UK on Amazon http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/oculus-rift-oculus-touch-399-99-amazon-2736508 Mad tempted by this, wonder how long the sale is running for

While I'm not sure if there'll be a "Vive 2" in the coming future, holding out a little longer from now will eventually yield a better VR package than what's available right now. Vive Knuckle controllers, wireless VR, Vive deluxe audio straps becoming more common place, etc. Most of these elements are more or less available now, but at very expensive prices. Hopefully all of these features will be bundled in a new Vive package or be represented in another headset soon enough. That being said the Rift is more affordable than ever if finances aren't that much of a trouble to you. And if you're hoping to hold out for better game content, I personally would say VR game content is at an all time high in quality. You might miss out on some genuinely amazing multiplayer experiences if you wait.
Right now you need to play multiplayer games when they first launch if you want to find players, except for a famed few that sustain players. Some really amazing experiences can take an hour to find teammates for once the hype dies down.
Gorn is available in early access on Steam now. It's on sale too. http://store.steampowered.com/app/578620/GORN/
That trailer is fucking fantastic.
Welp, I managed to get a Vive for ~£500 so I am now in the big boy VR club. Thank you very much, Tax rebate.
It only took me a grand total of 15 minutes before I accidentally pulled the vive off my face in GORN. 10/10, would drop my $800 HMD on the floor again (Sweat + accidental cable yank) It seems to be fine, no cracks and the tracking is fine, I think it fell a lot more gently than I realized thanks to the cable getting wrapped around my hand. :v:

Anyways, it's one of those things where I could buy one right now no problem, but it's really hard to justify spending $800 on something that I'm not sure even works for me. I've looked and there's nowhere to demo VR within like 400 miles. Despite the rift being such an amazing price now, I really don't think it would work for me over the Vive. My understanding is you need even more sensors (space is a premium and I really want to drill as few holes in my wall as possible) and a menagerie of USB 3.0 ports (I only have one). Everything facebook's been doing doesn't sound great either. I'm just not sure if it's worth it. The only multiplayer games i've seen that I'm really interested in are Onward, Pavlov, etc. My understanding (might be wrong) is that those are still some of the most popular. Then again, there's probably a lot of great games i'm not aware of either.

Basic rundown is a cheaper, simpler, more accurate lighthouse with different sensors that can hypothetically be indefinitely extended to create a "house scale" system as gaben called it. Not something most people need to be bothered about, but it's incredibly exciting for robotics and engineering in general.
The Gorn dev dropped into my stream today, while I was playing! He even saw me catch a knife out of the air and said "I've never seen anyone ever do that!" https://clips.twitch.tv/SpoopyVivaciousSwanCclamChamp
Also, heard the Rift is basically a no-go with glasses. I'm nearsighted so I'm still wondering if I could get away with not wearing them at all in VR, but it's not something I want to risk.

I have one friend with a small frame and they can usually get the Rift on with little to no problem. But another friend has a bigger frame and it got stuck inside the Rift when he tried to take it off.

The price drop on the Rift is really good for consumers, hopefully it pushes HTC to do the same. Though at the same time I'd suggest not to buy anything from the oculus store for the time being. Normally you don't do such a large price drop unless you're trying to clear inventory, which makes me think the lawsuit with Zenimax isn't going to well.
which makes me think the lawsuit with Zenimax isn't going to well.
Zenimax is close to halting sales of the Rift from infringement, which is likely one of the reasons they are cutting the price significantly in such a short period of time At least know Palmer got his ballpark price :v:
Zenimax needs to fuck off.
GORN is wonderful and deserves all the attention it can get. Shame I can't play it until I get back in September. That said, Seeing as I accidentally got the game for free from the alpha, first 3 people(that actually have a headset) to quote this post, I'll buy it for them.
Gorn is so damn good, this needs to be what all VR melee experiences are based on. The physics-based fighting is just so good with VR.

I want that GORN :downs:. Hopefully I can play it without smashing my controllers, gotta make chaperone bright red and very obvious.

What you can do is get a little holder 3D printed, and buy some $20 lenses from Zenni Optical. It's what I did, it works great. Let me know if you're interested, I can dig it up.

I legitimately broke the glass on my ceiling fan swinging the ball and chain around...

Now I just need to unlocked the stabbing knife so I can go back to my CQC roots :v:.

I only learned of the game maybe a month ago at most.
