Trying out Vivecraft. It's goddamned amazing. It's an actual, full game, and it feels like I've went into an entirely different world. Almost lost my little house because I couldn't help but explore. It even got to feel eerie, being in this world I know nothing about.
Me and a friend from highschool have been thinking of restarting our minecraft adventures, I wish I had a vive at home to fuck around with this but I might still set up vivecraft on my new laptop and bring it to work to try out. As retarded as minecraft can be sometimes it still seems like a really exciting thing to apply VR to

It honestly feels like a proper game, and one that takes advantage of being immersed.

A good number of our servers have been running for 2 years now with 99.9%+ uptime so it'll probably be pretty permanent

I feel like the only time I post in this thread is to praise Onward but the Subway map they just added is probably one of the most immersive real-world environment I've seen so far. It looks good and runs well and everything is scaled well. Onward feels like the only real game right now for Vive. Made by one guy in Alpha it's not even done yet. I can't even imagine how wild it would be if we got a Rainbow Six for the Vive or something.
Vivecraft sounds nice, but the only way I can enjoy Minecraft these days is with a mod pack :v:
Vivecraft sounds nice, but the only way I can enjoy Minecraft these days is with a mod pack :v:
There's Forge support for Vivecraft. Just make sure not to get crazy mods that would require more key bindings than you can handle. [editline]22nd September 2016[/editline] One suggestion is to try Pixelmon in VR; probably the closest you can get to VR Pokemon at the moment.
My feet are sore after 2 straight hours of Onward. Did anyone figure out how to consistently sprint yet? :v: Really fun though, especially with the right team, or a group of raging Chinese players like I had at the start.

Not just left/right, but also up/down. So if you're pointing down, you won't move as fast.
Haha, wow. It's not unusual for young celebrities to go off the rails, but Palmer is taking it to some weird places. He's basically funding Trump shitposting. What even is this world.
-tweets-
Kind of an overreaction because Palmer is doing it all privately, not representing Oculus. FB is publicly backing Clinton, but that doesn't mean their employees can't have their own opinion. We'll see how it plays out. [editline]23rd September 2016[/editline] The whole story is weirdly constructed anyway.
I guess buying an Oculus is off the table until he's not there. Sounds petty, but I'd rather not have my purchase directly contradict who I am.
Those devs are a bunch of babies. I don't agree with what Palmer is doing, but it's not like he's publicly doing it with Oculus, it's just some stupid thing he's doing privately by himself.
I guess buying an Oculus is off the table until he's not there. Sounds petty, but I'd rather not have my purchase directly contradict who I am.
You'll have a hard time buying any product if you'd knew what sort of people made it :v: But I can understand that he goes a bit further than simply supporting Trump, it's just such an immature way to use your money. At the same time I don't really care enough to let it shape my view of Oculus. For me, the company is represented by its engineers and content creators, like Carmack, Forsyth, et al. Palmer isn't much more than a tech evangelist. [editline]23rd September 2016[/editline] Battening down the hatches :v: [editline]23rd September 2016[/editline] Hope Palmer makes at least some effort at damage control so this one blows over faster. Oculus Connect 3 being around the corner and all that.
If it was Palmer, he royally fucked up. The only evidence we have so far though, is a tabloid's "he told us!". Going to wait for a statement from Palmer or Oculus before throwing a babby fit like those game devs. [editline]23rd September 2016[/editline] Note that I'm not fanboying, I just want solid evidence and official statements instead of relying on a frigging tabloid.

He's allowed to have political opinions outside of his work, and as long as he wasnt spending company money to fund his pro-trump shenanigans, who gives a shit?
though I honestly dont think "he fucked up". He's allowed to have political opinions outside of his work, and as long as he wasnt spending company money to fund his pro-trump shenanigans, who gives a shit?
The idea, I guess, is that if you buy Oculus products, money goes to Facebook, which means Facebook pays (and gives bonuses to, if founders get bonuses) Palmer Luckey, which he then, with his large disposable income, funds pro-Trump shitposting. How much money he gives, I don't know. (not saying that I share the idea 100%) So if you didn't want to support Trump in any way whatsoever, you would not support Oculus. Which is kinda silly because Facebook supports the Clinton campaign IIRC, and facebook owns oculus.
Well holy shit that's out of control. I don't think the thing that should roast Oculus is Palmer Luckey spending money trolling this dumpster fire of a US election though, the reaction seems unwarranted IMO.
dont know why anyones surprised, you could see his shitty views on his twitter likes/follows long ago
twitter
"providing a safe space" lol. Step down from what? Palmer isn't in any major position, Iribe is the CEO, this guy is only the founder and poster boy. How does someone step down from being the founder? Un-found Oculus? [editline]23rd September 2016[/editline] Also lol

He's allowed to have political opinions outside of his work, and as long as he wasnt spending company money to fund his pro-trump shenanigans, who gives a shit?
Of course everyone is allowed to have as many opinions as they want and run a business/own a business/partake in a business/receive finances from a business- but your public opinion sways consumer behavior for any product that you are tied to in any way. Like back when Chic-fil-a gave nearly $2 million dollars to anti-gay groups in 2010 (Marriage & Family Foundation: $1,188,380 Fellowship Of Christian Athletes: $480,000 National Christian Foundation: $247,500 New Mexico Christian Foundation: $54,000 Exodus International: $1,000 Family Research Council: $1,000 Georgia Family Council: $2,500) You may be paying for a delicious chicken sandwich, or a sturdy VR platform, but that money goes to paying people within that company. True, every employee has their own agendas, like the guy that gave me coffee today probably has done something I wouldn't condone, but it doesn't really matter until someone prolific does something. Since it's Palmer, I'd consider that enough to look at alternative purchasing decisions, because that's what capitalism is all about.
Minecraft on GearVR is getting Xbox One controller support: http://uploadvr.com/gear-vr-adds-xbox-one-controller-support-starting-minecraft-next-month/ Note this requires a newer model Xbone controller than the one shipped with the Rift (which doesn't have Bluetooth support).

I'm thinking I'd might get one for my PC and my GearVr to replace my old wired 360 controller.

The bluetooth option isn't about quality it's about being able to use the transmitters that a lot of people already have. I'm not sure if any differences other than unnecessary amount of range would really be noticeable though. I've definitely never had any range or wireless connection issues with my dedicated adapter.
man I just had a thought: what if the phone caught fire while using gearVR? is the gearvr overheating issue gone with the new phones? gearvr might actually make me purposely get a samsung phone again
Finally an official word soon
im surprised that people outside the vr community care, really, it's weird to see people talking about this
Kind of an overreaction because Palmer is doing it all privately, not representing Oculus.
Whether he officially does or doesn't, to the general public Palmer Luckey does represent Oculus. I think it's generally very unwise to have one person represent a company and product, and even more unwise to have that person be very visible and vocal, but it happens. And in those cases, what they do really affects the image of the product and company.
"Not supporting" something isn't always about monetary support. In my opinion, it's all communication, sending a message. The message of boycotting Oculus in the case that a Trump supporter represents Oculus, says "It's important to me not to support Trump" much more than the actual amount of money Palmer doesn't get by boycotting his product does. It's like like becoming vegetarian for ethical reasons; you not buying meat wouldn't change shit - someone else is just going to buy it, but you would show other people what can be done and what you think should be done. That said, it's ridiculous that this is becoming a big clusterfuck before it's really been confirmed that it is Luckey.
The wireless link adds 12ms of latency to the initial cabled latency of 9ms (21ms total) : it shouldn't be a problem for the majority of apps, but you could feel it in the games where you move around quickly. They are using one of these Intel compute stick PCs to stream the video from your PC to the HMD. Tech works with the Vive (as seen on the photos) but they are also working on Rift and GearVR compatibility (streaming from PC to mobile HMD). (Need confirmation) Plans are to sell the tech to HMD suppliers in a year maximum so they can integrate it for Gen2. Price before taxes is 3,000€ (ouch), to be announced officially wednesday next week. Included batteries are announced to last 4H (sounds like a lot tbh). No information on wattage/amp characteristics.
It's a start. Prices and latency will go down further, hopefully Gen 2 or 3 headsets will be wireless.
