[editline]23rd September 2016[/editline]
I mean, dealing with the batteries would be more of a hassle than a better cable imo
I am deeply sorry that my actions are negatively impacting the perception of Oculus and its partners. The recent news stories about me do not accurately represent my views.
Here’s more background: I contributed $10,000 to Nimble America because I thought the organization had fresh ideas on how to communicate with young voters through the use of several billboards. I am a libertarian who has publicly supported Ron Paul and Gary Johnson in the past, and I plan on voting for Gary in this election as well.
I am committed to the principles of fair play and equal treatment. I did not write the "NimbleRichMan" posts, nor did I delete the account. Reports that I am a founder or employee of Nimble America are false. I don’t have any plans to donate beyond what I have already given to Nimble America.
Still, my actions were my own and do not represent Oculus. I’m sorry for the impact my actions are having on the community.
Welp, that shitstorm's over then. He didn't write the posts, and didn't properly research what he donated to.
I don't get why this mattered to begin with. People are always out to make headlines out of anything celebrities do.

Shitstorm is over but the damage was already done thanks to all the media wanking over the unconfirmed information. You can be sure that anti-facebook/anti-oculus people will use this as ammunition in the future.

Yeah but the thing he was accused of is some shady shit (undisclosed smear campaign) even for low bar the US sets on political discussion.

And as per usual they need to drown it out with good news. Luckily Oculus Connect 3 is around the corner.

Not that the overall quality of TheDailyBeast reporting was of any doubt but are they really that dumb to completely fabricate direct quotes from Palmer? Unless he's planning to sue them, something's not right there

why they would risk a lawsuit is an equally good question as why palmer would volunteer this scandalous information
it's not like they ~uncovered the truth~
they're saying he told about it
the article writer posted screens of the emails

but why would palmer deliberately spill these beans to a reporter and then deny it?

because a billion dollar corporation noticed this could be a liability for the industry they are trying to control.
i guarantee that apology had multiple lawyers look at it to make sure they can attempt to pull luckey out of the situation

only hours after the incident with so many questions in the air, and your first thought is to guarantee conspiracy?
that does nothing to answer my question: why would palmer offer this kind of information to reporters, knowing the harm it would cause to his work?

My guess: he didn't think the whole thing through. Never attribute to malice bla bla bla..
Anyway, shitstorm hasn't subsided yet. His girlfriend apparently had to delete her twitter, which some will say is because of the massive amount of Trump supporting posts, while it could also be because all sorts of news sites are harassing her over this issue.
Might still end up with Palmer having to step down, or they'll just go dark for a while.

When I've had my computer on for a while and I wanna play VR I start up my Vive like normal but the second I hit the menu button and the menu opens, something happens.
My headset loses tracking, but it comes back in a moment, but my controllers won't track and are unresponsive. If I shut down SteamVR and try again it still happens.
The only way to fix it and actually be able to play as far as I know is to restart my computer and start up SteamVR.
Has anyone run into something like this before?

I have something similar where on the SteamVR window, the base stations seem to just pop in and out of existence at random, and in the headset it loses tracking every time they grey out. Also seems to be fixed by restarting the computer, and seems to happen randomly when I've had the computer running for a while and open SteamVR.

Yeah but if that were the case, it'd be really easy for Palmer to call these out as fake and putting the blame on the journalists. Not doing so just leaves the question unanswered.

Hope they realise in time that not addressing all reasonable questions and seeming contradictions is just going to leave this issue festering.

I'll take "lawyers tell you to not blurt out pertinent information to an argument before they sort out the information for themselves and any case they may have so as to prevent the claimant from getting an edge and abusing new information against you" for $200

Exactly. Corporate communication is sluggish and by the time they respond, conspiracy theories and unfounded assumptions already took hold of public opinion.
"A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on."
As much as I'd like to believe it's some intense smear campaign, the signs of Palmer being with Trump have been around for a long time
I find trying to save face during a PR nightmare a more likely explanation than someone making themselves and their publication very evidently liable to get sued for everything they have, but people will keep jumping to conclusions on either side anyway
The journalist went on record to (allegedly) forge emails, if Palmer doesn't sue you know who's not telling the truth
Onward is really making me yearn for higher res displays. Spotting stuff at a distance is hard :v:

Usea different USB port, turn down camera refresh rate, or disable it.

Agreed, can't wait to see better resolutions in gen 2+
VR makes up for awkward intangibility with how social it is. Seeing head and hand body language in multiplayer experiences is fantastic.
Even a simple thing like BigScreen can be hilarious with other players.

storm vr's trailer looks fucking RAD. it's out on steam now for 3 bucks. apparently it is quite short, only around 15 minutes long. i'm not saying it is, but if the game is bad, at least it will have the coolest video game trailer ever
Nice to hear the opposite for once.
So following the little bit of drama that has happened lately over political opinions within the VR community we thought it would be a good idea to express our opinions on the matter and also announce official support for the Oculus Rift with our game. We at Zulubo Productions dont think that the political views of one person warrant the dropping of support for thousands of others, unlike some developers who have dropped support we have decided to implement it. It is unfair to punish all of you who may want to play our game even if our political views do not match that of Palmer.
So if you haven't seen Vertigo here is the trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbFnWj867sA
We are currently trying to get our hands on touch controllers so we can port it in time for their launch, however if we are unable to then we will buy them ourselves and port it after launch. Also some people have been able to use SteamVR to play Vive games on the Oculus Rift with touch controllers. So even if we are unable to port it officially for the launch of touch then it might still work.
We believe that the VR community needs to stick together and if we fight among ourselves then we could cause harm to this new medium.

Nice to hear the opposite for once.
Wait what, I got a Touch dev kit before the guys that are building the Vertigo did? Someone should tell them to mail Callum Underwood.
man this dude just keeps going, months ago apparently
