Finally tried Onward with my Touch controllers:
* Works from the get-go! Though it uses default Vive to Touch mappings of course, which isn't that bad.
* Walking is easier with an analog stick.
* Fiddling with weapons is waaay easier because of the Touch controller's smaller profile.
* Grip and menu buttons being more reachable helps.
* Also looking at things in the distance just feels a bit nicer in the Rift, because of the softer pixel pattern.
I don't really have my Rift camera's in a room-scale setup right now or I'd be using it as default.

This really isn't about Palmer's political leanings. It was about him funding the smear campaign, no matter for or against what candidate.
Dragon Front is actually pretty cool
VR makes up for awkward intangibility with how social it is. Seeing head and hand body language in multiplayer experiences is fantastic.
Even a simple thing like BigScreen can be hilarious with other players.
This is very true...
My friend and I spent more time giving each other virtual high-fives and throwing chairs at each other than we actually did playing Billiards in Pool Nation.
finally tried a retail oculus today at the msft store. they only showed off minecraft VR.
The "immersion mode" where it puts you into the game makes me motion sick unless im staying still in the world, this is coming from someone who never experiences motion sickness ever in a game. It's probably due to the xb1 controller + sitting down combo.
when its in the minecraft living room mode tho its pretty neat. doesn't weigh down my face as much as vive but then again i didnt have time to properly strap up the vive when i tried it out weeks ago so.
judging by both experiences i would still go for vive in a instant simply because it isn't locked down to a chair, chaperone, and motion controllers.
don't get why people want wireless, give me a long thin optical thunderbolt + power cable and im good
[editline]23rd September 2016[/editline]
I mean, dealing with the batteries would be more of a hassle than a better cable imo
Yeah, Honestly I dont mind dragging the cord around(though it would be nice to do away with the 30 feet of cables stretching through my apartment), it's just the fact that the damn 3in1 gets so horribly tangled that I'm constantly having to yank on it to stretch it out enough for me to move
It's probably due to the xb1 controller + sitting down combo.
It's definitely that. I usually don't get Motionsick unless that happens (Ghibli Demos are my experience)

This is a big misconception of the Rift. When I got mine, I thought It would be super limited and really just a sitting down thing. It's not.
There's just not much point going roomscale till Touch is out.
There's just not much point going roomscale till Touch is out.
That's true. What really blew my mind with the Rift was walking around in photogrammetry scanned places & rooms though.

either that's driveby reaction trolling or you somehow are genuinely still convinced that the rift can't do roomscale despite dozens of videos showing otherwise

whats with you and jumping on anything negative about the rift tho
you usually call it smearing the rift but now its driveby reaction trolling

should i not call out users that deliberately try to misinform others about a product that they have a hate-boner for?
i'm not necessarily referring to wii60
it isn't just "something negative about the rift" when it's a blatant lie
in benefit of doubt that wii60 is innocently misinformed i didn't jump straight to such accusations
i just wish that people would promote the vive on its own merits, and not fabricating the idea that the rift is missing a huge component of the experience (aka smear)
it's a claim that has been thrown around for the past year, and it seems no amount of evidence will ever get people to stop throwing around such an obvious BS claim

explain that to the msft employee who told me to sit down in the chair and do nothing else after he made me sign a waiver saying if i hurt myself its not their fault
[t]http://i.imgur.com/Yf6ayyV.png[/t]
meanwhile the vive in the store has a standing area. it's how msft set it up. (note: the touch controllers dont exist in the store)

i dont browse this thread 24/7 or browse the VR subreddits 24/7 so i dont see every roomscale-esque video for the oculus. link some so i can watch how it works

control+F search for Touch to highight the relevant ones
also it's not surprising that microsoft would demo Minecraft since they own it
without motion controls on demo yet for the Rift there's no reason for them to promote walking experiences with Minecraft
imo they should just show everyone Oculus Dreamdeck (the thing that opens after configuring your Rift for the first time, in which you are encouraged to walk around) followed by a racing sim or something

that waiver is totally irrelevant; i'm not sure why you brought it up
because it makes the oculus seem like a sitting VR device while the vive waiver doesnt have anything like that
its the little things that make the oculus seem like its sitting only/most of the time.

does the vive waiver say that injuries you incur are your own fault and liability?
if it doesn't, they're crazy
if it does, the waivers are identical in purpose except that the rift waiver says to sit down if your game is meant for sitting down
that isn't a big deal at all
right now the rift IS sitting mostly, but only because the controllers are not released yet (at which point it will be compatible with all of the steamvr library)
i dont think he's saying it is a big deal, i think he's trying to explain why he initially thought that the rift was a more seated orientated experience.
i think sometimes you see simple misinformation and mistake it for a smear attempt

this is personally why i'll always shy away from the rift, as far as i understand it the steamvr library is open to all rift users to enjoy but oculus tries desperately to prevent vive users from playing their games
So, what are people's opinions on OSVR and the HDK2 headset?
I'm certainly curious, but I haven't seen anyone give the HDK2 a proper review/comparison with the other big players.
Yeah, yeah, I know. No motion controllers.
But to be honest, from what I experienced of current Vive games, a lot of the motion controller games aren't compelling enough (for me) to be concerned about, currently. They're kind of glorified arcade games, with a handful of deeper but still janky/gimmicky titles thrown in. I'm much more interested in mostly sitting experiences. Racing games, space sims, etc.
(Plus I don't really have the room to make the Vive work :v:)

i didn't really assume you were in a heated debate with him, i just think you're misunderstanding his position. some of the terms you use just give me the impression you're trying to prove him wrong rather than trying to explain how it is.
his simple clarification of why he said what he said was met with "this isn't a big deal at all" and that just comes across as a little bit weird to me. like you're trying to make sure everyone knows that it's okay, it's not a big deal guys, it's such a little thing stop talking about it.
again though, i really didn't approach this conversation trying to start a debate. the fact i'm not being called a hypocrite by you over it leads me to believe you're a little sensitive about this subject.
man this is not an ideal page starter.

Whenever someone says they don't care for motion controller games I'm really curious, what games have you played? Not trying to be confrontational I'm just interested because the quality of VR games ranges wildly so I often wonder if people just tried The Lab and Tilt Brush and went "meh".

I tried The Lab (probably the thing I liked the most, actually, so polished and responsive), The Solus Project (pretty neat but not a fan of the movement, was also difficult to get running properly in VR mode), Budget Cuts (Fun, but nowhere near complete enough), Surgeon Simulator VR, some zombie thing made in what seemed like Unity that I can't remember the name of, Lightblade VR, Hover Junkers, and some other weird castle defense thing.
I wanted to play Job Simulator but didn't feel like dumping $30 on a game I can't even play at home :v:
I'm not saying that all the games are bad or are even bad experiences, it's just a lot of them seem like pretty 'singular' experiences and not very good value/playtime ratio.
I'm also a cheap bastard and think $800 for the Vive is fucking nuts. There's VR games I want to play but spending full price on a Vive seems a little silly.

Did you play using a friend's Vive or something? The only one on that list I'd say is a proper good game is Hover Junkers but even that took me a little while to really sink into. If you ever get a chance, try out Space Pirate Trainer, Modbox or Vivecraft. That's probably where I spend most of my time in the Vive.
Also for anybody that has Modbox or has been keeping an eye on it, multiplayer is coming pretty soon! It's crazy fun and I honestly think the community is going to inflate a lot once it's out. We've got some pretty cool stuff planned

Yeah, the Vive did not belong to me.
I'll keep those in mind next time I get a shot, I suppose.
Tried out rec room tonight. Fun stuff, though the physics needs some decent tweaking. Throwing objects ends up with the not having the momentum they should, or they'll collide with your hand or something.
Darts notably can leave your hand as you throw, but if you follow through with the hand motion forward, the dart can end up behind your hand after release and collide with your fingers, sticking there. Ping pong balls need the same tweak to ensure they're moving forward correctly, and have a bit more bounce off the table surface and paddles. It feels decent if you're just juggling it on the paddle but if you try playing ping pong, especially on the self-play wall, there's just never enough bounce for it to make it to the other side without just dying out and rolling halfway
In Frisbee golf I had two dudes chatting it up, one was so happy and said he hasn't laughed while having fun in a game like this in ages. Then in dodgeball the balls weren't doing shit and a guy got into my friend's face (he was trying it out at the time) and said "yeah! Fucking quit you piece of shit!" and just, what?

After spending a good deal of time with a vive I cannot imagine playing anything in VR without the motion controllers. It just feels like a natural part of a VR experience, playing games with a controller sitting in a chair while you're free to look around is just such a strange idea when you started out with a complete system. That's not to say that there isn't games that I'd rather play seated, but seeing as the question is more related to a system without motion controllers my answer on whether I'd buy one is somewhere between never and "holy fuck no" :v:
Finally had a chance to check out Valve's lobby in Destinations. Pretty cool! There's even a neat easter egg when you go out of bounds.
The clay pots are the best thing about h3vr so far

Minecraft is getting Touch support on October 18th
The leaked release date for Touch in Germany was 21st
Seems we're getting Touch in under a month, pre-orders certainly opening during Connect 3.
