First new game announcement from Oculus Connect 3:

I knew Force Field was working on an Oculus Studios title over in Amsterdam, and that appears to be it.

Goddamnit Orkel.
The RTS I want is still Flagship.
At 2560 x 1440, it's actually higher resolution than the rift and vive, assuming it's the pixel xl as Wii60 said. About 42% more pixels.
Same resolution as my headset, and possibly the same display (amoled 5.5")--now that I've tried both the vive and rift I should dig that up and make a more thorough comparison
Keep in mind that without knowing what you're rendering refresh rate and resolution are somewhat meaningless. At 1920x1200, my old laptop with a 670MX in it can render one of the projection applications at my office at 2,400 FPS :v:
I was talking about the screen panel of the PSVR, not rendering refresh rates.
I just got my Vive today. Setting up was an absolute bitch because of various issues that have nothing to do with the Vive itself, such as having to cover up a mirror, needing to swap my graphics cards' respective slots, along with needing to re-position one of the lighthouses because I didn't account for my ceiling fan blocking the view to the other lighthouse.
But you know what?
It was all worth it.
I've only tried the SteamVR Tutorial and The Lab so far, but that was quite the experience.
I don't even know how long I spent in The Lab. Steam tells me 19 minutes, but I don't think that's right. I must have been in there for at least 40 minutes.
Giant Bomb's doing their livestream thing again, this time with Playstation VR: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_mF6m_WJF8
Seeing the pictures of the Google VR stuff really highlights the Vives complete lack of fully realised industrial design.
It really feels like its just a shape they ended up with after getting the technology right, rather than it being consciously 'designed' at any point

Hoooooooo boy that is some bad position tracking.

Blunder alert. Hopefully they can fix it with an update.
I'll probably be picking up battlezone when it drops on Steam, looks nice. Hope it gets openvr support too

Wonder what they've been working on? It's the studio that made some God of War games and The Order 1886.
Oculus Medium sculpts can be 3D printed

Welp Giant bomb doesn't recommend that you buy the PSVR in it's current state
it has tracking issues that can cause the headset and controllers to jitter

Possibly issues with the hardware they were sent? Another reviewer who had the same issue got sent a new PSVR by Sony
Though if it's actually a real thing in all headsets, it wouldn't surprise me - it's using Move controllers and the PS camera which are not made for VR and are years old.

TBH I was pretty shocked at what they were using for tracking, it'd be like if Microsoft decided to venture into VR and used the Kinect. Technically capable of tracking a 3D object, but not to any degree of quality I'd assume.

bout time for social facebook VR stuff?
I do wonder if Zoopledoop is hinting at something that hasn't been announced yet myself, facebook vr stuff would be neat I guess but like 2 people I have on facebook have vr headsets

Treadmill attempt #6953 hot off the presses

it looks better than previous attempts but honestly the thing is huge and I don't know if I could ever justify getting one of these without trying it and it's unlikely to ever be in a physical store near me

VR Arcades?
VR Arcades?
That's the most likely bet, though I don't think there's any near me, especially ones with a new omni-tread at them. Either way, all I'm saying is I think it's going to be pretty hard to push something that's large, expensive, and difficult to try even if it is good

I like the giant hook going up your butt
I look forward to providing a write up of my experience of PSVR next week when my unit arrives. I've never had the chance to use the Oculus Rift or Vive, but I've tried Gear VR and own a Google Cardboard. So basically I've never had a real VR experience and I'll at least be able to provide a fresh take on what the device feels like to a early adopter/general consumer. I've watched a ton of streams today and despite the clear tracking issues I'm still excited and am prepared to deal with any motion sickness that comes with it.

it would be so killer if carmack showed off true inside-out tracking to put google's new VR to shame
Carmack doesn't seem like the kind of guy that would give an answer like that unless he was actually going to talk about it at the keynote. In other words, if he wasn't already planning on talking about inside-out, he'd probably just say that he has no new information about it. Super excited.
[editline]6th October 2016[/editline]
Every so often I remember how cool it is to be on the ground floor of VR, watching it take off. I really think this stuff is gonna be the future, it'll be great to look back 10 years from now and think fondly of when we were all stumbling around our homes, tethered to expensive computers painting in 3D.
I'm dumb, what's inside-out tracking?
I'm dumb, what's inside-out tracking?
The device tracks the outside world vs the outside world tracks the device. The HoloLens currently being the strongest case of inside-out tracking seen in an HMD, but I don't think gear vr will attempt to dethrone that in the slightest, daydream didn't. The HoloLens has 2 stereo camera rigs and a wide FOV depth camera in the front for tracking, I can't see them trying to fit that onto a gear vr.
Sorry that I keep losing it, but can someone please tell me the IP to the vivecraft server?

Say whaaaaat
My Google cardboard has just arrived. Makes me very excited for in a couple of years when currently-more-expensive VR has matured and been commoditised a bit, prices are still too high for a student budget, but the future looks awesome!
Oh man that rts looks great, but I always wanted to see an rts where you grab units and specifically draw their paths / grab ships and slide them forward to get them moving or something. Kind of like those strategic boards with the pieces that generals use
[editline]6th October 2016[/editline]
Anyway I finally have a VR ready pc and I'm hesitant to buy a Vive/Rift. I'm afraid I will buy it and it will become outdated quickly even though I know gen2 won't be around for a long time
