oh shit it was supposed to get here Friday (the 14th) but now it's already in NJ and tracking says tomorrow! I heard there's some issues with Hover Junkers, should I avoid buying that? What are some must-have VR (vive) games? I apologize if its been asked 100 times. I have TruBlu (for showing friends) and tabletop simulator in the cart
I haven't tried Hover Junkers myself, so I can't comment on that. But my recommendations (after you fully check out the bundled games I assume you'll get) are Space Pirate Trainer and Brookhaven for good shooting times, Out of Ammo for a nice strategy concept in VR, Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes for good fun with friends and H3VR if you're interested in that odd gun-simulator-sandbox game that is. Those are the games I keep coming back to out of the dozens I've bought, but pretty much every game I've tried has been a neat experience in some way, so you can't really go wrong. [editline]13th October 2016[/editline] Also Modbox is kind of a must have if you're into sandbox games. Raptor Valley is a good horror game, too. [editline]13th October 2016[/editline] How could I forget Raw Data?
for all we know this could be a janitorial position at apple HQ
I'm pretty sure nVidia isn't a temp agency for janitors that are employed as Software Engineers.

free weekend for raw data hate that game
Looks pretty fun
When the fuck is Croteam gonna get ahold of some god damn FUCKING COMPETENT SOUND DESIGNERS? I enjoyed serious sam 3, but FUCK ME it sounds like a shitty videogame you'd see on a tv in a movie from the early 2000s. It actually pisses me off a shitton that people take something so important so lightly.
Plus, the occlusion of the two controllers being too close tends to make one drift off into space til you pull them apart again
you may have some broken sensors if that's happening on your controllers. I can put my controllers in pretty much any position touching each other and not have one start drifting off.
you may have some broken sensors if that's happening on your controllers. I can put my controllers in pretty much any position touching each other and not have one start drifting off.
it happens pretty easily if you stack them like below, and you're set up with a larger space (thus the sensors are further apart and the data the controllers are getting is definitely less than optimal). It's not a COMMON occurrence but it'll happen to me now and again, and being me I just start playing with how to break shit once I notice something wonky happen. A normal user would see a split second of drift before going on with whatever they were doing [t]http://i.imgur.com/6yjlGMP.png[/t]
it's a simple matter of line of sight. Lasers aren't magic, if you block them then the system can't see the controller. The large tracking donuts make the sensors harder to cover up in general, and the wand shape makes that type of interaction more unwieldy, but you can't really fix this kind of occlusion in an opposed tracking configuration. If you do something like stand off in the corner where there's no lighthouse and hold the controllers close to your chest, or turn your back to one lighthouse and cover one controller with the other, the system will lose line of sight and lose tracking.
why would you ever hold the controllers like this
Not to mention you really can't considering your finger will get in the way before they get that close
why would you ever hold the controllers like this
Gotta consider every possible use case
why would you ever hold the controllers like this
I can only think of holding a pistol with two hands, the back controller being between them.
why would you ever hold the controllers like this
why would someone try to hit save when they already hit the quit button?
why would you ever hold the controllers like this
more commonly it's not while you're actively trying to do anything and you're just holding both controllers with one hand as you're adjusting the headset. You then notice it go wonky and start figuring out what went wrong after that like a normal curious human being better question, why are people disagreeing with the fact this can happen with the current setup? I've said several times it's a negligible circumstance most people wouldn't give a passing glance, but it can happen when the planets (and your controllers, body, and sensors) align, and here's how to reproduce it with the new controllers the sensors are pointed forward and out the back of your hands for the most part, which I'd say is far less likely to get occluded if you bring your hands together in most natural situations, and the strapping means you won't have to fumble around with both controllers in one hand to adjust your headset or poke at a keyboard
most vive experiences are also designed to avoid occlusion. It's fairly easy to think of designs that would encourage it (for example, place a lego brick in the middle of each donut and tell the user to snap them together). A lot of the time it's as simple as changing how an object is oriented in a user's hands, but this can make things less immersive. It's the same reason Oculus was originally recommending a forward facing setup for touch (demos like toybox would occlude much more easily in an opposing tracker configuration).

I'm interested in it myself but I can't really find much info from people who've actually used the thing.
Is Raw Data worth it? It seems to be one of the most developed titles at the moment but still pretty bare. There doesn't seem to be a lot of game there for £30 (£22.50 in sale) and I'm already strapped for cash.

I think it's pretty fun, but as you noted, a little content-bare for the price at the moment.
Oh right cool. I'll make sure to try it out. Though I'm looking forward to playing windlands way more. Though I'm probably going to need to take anti-nausea pills :/ I worry that if I wait longer for Raw Data, it's going to go up in price with added features.
I've never heard of a game raising the price, I wouldn't worry about it.
I've never heard of a game raising the price, I wouldn't worry about it.
Lots of early access games raise price as they get closer to release. Blame notch.
Good news, free weekend! http://store.steampowered.com/app/436320
I feel like a free weekend might have been a mistake because as cool as raw data is, it's unfinished, so I think in 2 days you could probably play it enough to not need to buy it till it's more developed v:v:v
I've never heard of a game raising the price, I wouldn't worry about it.
H1Z1 practically doubled in price because they split the game into two separate titles. Space Engineers went up in price, as did Kerbal Space Program. It happens quite a lot.
Finally got around to playing Time Machine VR. Spend my day inspecting and getting chased by prehistoric ocean life. I'm afraid my dreams tonight are going to involve large bodies of water and Megalodons :(
I feel like a free weekend might have been a mistake because as cool as raw data is, it's unfinished, so I think in 2 days you could probably play it enough to not need to buy it till it's more developed v:v:v
for people who don't have many games to dink around with, I think it might earn its keep well enough. I'm still kinda stuck just loading up the lab to play the archery demo when I want to have some fun shooting at stuff
I'm still kinda stuck just loading up the lab to play the archery demo when I want to have some fun shooting at stuff
You should try the QuiVr free early access demo available on the QuiVr store page. Much better archery mechanics and more content. Some other good free games to try are skeet: VR, Spell Fighter VR, Portal Stories VR.

I'm still kinda stuck just loading up the lab to play the archery demo when I want to have some fun shooting at stuff
I still load up the archery demo in the lab rn and i own raw data, the lab is honestly so well made that it reminds me of why it sucks that valve has mostly jumped ship on making games other than multiplayer arenas. also for shits and giggles I was trying out vivecraft with a friend a few minutes ago and (bummer) non-vr users cannot see your limbs at all. I also was unable to really reproduce your issue with hand tracking, by stacking the controllers on top of each other the best I could manage was getting it to glitch for a half second or two when slightly under my arms. My base stations are ~5.5m apart mounted on a high wall so that might make a difference?
