I meant the way described here, which is distance-agnostic: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isometric_projection
It's really used more in CAD tools and strategy games than anywhere else.
That's what he means too, although I've seen it called orthographic.
AFAIK, isometric projection is limited to very specific rules and angles, while an orthographic projection is only distance agnostic.
like, orthogonal cameras? im gonna try making vr cameras orthogonal
I'm not sure orthogonal is the right term. The term I was taught is orthographic, and it's the term used in most modelling programs that support it.

the term orthogonal means "at a 90 degree angle", basically. isometric is a 3d view trying to show 3 faces, orthographic projection means to show 3 faces of the object at a flat angle in 2d.
seen here: an isometric projection with 3 an orthogonal projection to the left

So I tried out windlands and got instantly sick. Is this something I can get used to or should I just get a refund?
Also Raw Data is so broken, haven't even managed to play it yet. Keeps crashing at different stages.
What is with Steam that it needs to be completely closed and restarted in order to switch VR games? Should I be using the VR menu to switch games?

Windlands is not great for VR beginners, and plays pretty bad on the Vive in general (trackpad ill suited for its movement scheme). Don't push yourself through sickness, get acclimated with small sessions.

Hm? You shouldn't need to. Where did you read that?

If I close, say, Rec Room, and open Tabletop Simulator, the game will never progress passed "Preparing to play Tabletop Simulator" unless I exit steam and open it again

That's weird. Do you close/start via desktop or using the VR menu?

Desktop, the VR menu works fine

First time I did windlands I got so sick I felt it for the next 2 days and nights but now I'm fine.
Rolling Stone did an article about the new Vive prototype controllers, here are some interesting bits:
Finger tracking may be coming:
It’s also a big leap from the current Vive controllers. “It really was far more immersive than doing the same scene using the Vive controllers. It didn’t track individual fingers, only the entire hand pose from open to closed, but I was told there isn't a technological restriction keeping them from tracking the individual fingers.”
.. and apparently the wrist straps are just to make people feel safer, the design of the controller doesn't actually rely on the straps at all.
“There were some Velcro straps attached to your wrist, which I originally thought was to keep you from accidentally throwing the controller," he says. "Turns out that's not the case – the developer from Valve that I talked to said the Velcro straps were a psychological trick. They didn't actually bear any weight, even when throwing things as fast as I could, but he said people felt quite uncomfortable 'letting go' of the controller without the straps.”
For me, turning on snap turn made a huge difference and I was able to play it completely fine.

What the hell is snap turn?
First time I did windlands I got so sick I felt it for the next 2 days and nights but now I'm fine.
Shit, could that be why I woke up with a migraine and have been feeling really sick all day?
What the hell is snap turn?
Turns happen in 45 degree increments rather than smoothly. It's in options somewhere, I forget what it's exactly called.
The video game thumbstick rotation of the view coming from outside my own head movement is what really throws me off and gets me feeling sick. For some reason though, making the turn instantaneous feels totally fine.

Oh I think you've quoted the wrong person lol

Hah, woops.
Does anybody remember the name of that 3d modeling program someone posted a video of here a few weeks ago? It was a vertex-based editor, unlike tiltbrush or any of the other vr editors I've seen. I remember you could turn on grid snapping as well.
Don't know exactly what project you're referring to but FWIW Modbox has vertex editing, working on face editing as well right now. Hoping to include some pretty robust modeling features later on as well.
Anyone got any vr sickness remedies? My parents suggested anything with ginger in it, specifically tea. Going to look for one of those pressure bands in the shops, I remember using them for car rides when I was little.

Found it! VRTX. I really want to get my hands on this because depth is a constand problem for me in my modeling. https://m.reddit.com/r/virtualreality/comments/4qnt3l/3d_modeling_in_vr_the_way_god_intended_it/
That UI is so beautiful it makes me cry

VR sickness is basically car sickness. Same remedies apply.
To be honest, I feel like the vive controllers should be at least... 7 times heavier. Obviously not by nature, but it'd be wonderful to be able to add some weights to them, this way it'd really feel like I'm carrying a gun
All I know is, I want
1. A rifle holster for viimotes
2. A weight on said holster
3. A steel cage around my fragile monitors :v:

don't forget a shake weight for rumble.

thats for porn games

I suffer from car sickness, VR sickness seems a lot more intense. I just wanted to find out if anyone here has any specific remedies that work well for them. I know car sickness remedies are a google search away but I posted here because I wanted to hear people's own opinions.

I suffer from extremely minor car sickness, but I don't feel shit in VR ever unless there is no gyro (roll) tracking
Hell, I can fly around in VR all day and shrug it off
how the hell can this be? is simulator and car sickness totally different?
I heard poorly calibrated lenses can cause sickness. Have you double checked your inter-pupilary distance on your lenses?

how the hell do I check that anyways. I always set it to 6.66 because I'm an edgelord tool but also it seems to be the best looking median
