If Clavus isn't implying that the delay wasn't a direct result of Oculus funding and a desire to delay to Touch launch, then that's my bad. That's certainly what I'm getting from his post though!

if a game already had a launch date for the vive and was already complete, all its doing is punishing Vive users by pushing back the release. You can always launch a game and release touch support when touch releases. You alienate vive customers when you sell out to oculus and delay your already completed game to launch with touch instead

Time is money; there's only so much development you can get done trying to make a good game on a limited budget. It's not like they do nothing with that extra development time and money.
You're still not responding to Clavus's actual point, which is that for a developer a delayed launch (and the money to continue developing during that time adding many new features) just means a better game. Most of your money is made shortly after releasing a game, so it just makes sense to delay your game so that it can be even more worth buying while people are still excited for a new release.
[editline]3rd December 2016[/editline]
it's ridiculous to call it betrayal or punishing, to spend a few extra months polishing your videogame; are you that fond of indie early access?
First lucky people have received their Touchs, funny though that they can't play the launch titles till the 6th as the codes don't activate till then.

That wasn't what I was saying. Taking the dev grant is the developer's decision and if they see it as an opportunity to shift their launch window and improve their game, more power to them.

Unless he already took your money, I don't see why it 'punishes' Vive users. That sounds dangerously close to entitlement.

First Contact should work at least.

Yeah I was thinking yesterday that it would be swell if we could install them ahead of time.
Can we talk about how the oculus touch thumbsticks are weird cone things
They look so satisfying to use, like they cup your thumb or something. They look weird but I dig it.
Can we talk about how the oculus touch thumbsticks are weird cone things
They feel pretty similar to the Xbone and PS4 controller thumbsticks. Solid and easy to press (but not accidentally press).
although oculus has definitely done great things for the vr industry they've also done a fair amount of harm too since launch. There's a balance of ups and downs all around naturally

ever since Facebook bought Oculus, this thread has lost its mind; if you dare to argue when someone says that Oculus is evil instead of participating in the circlejerk, clearly you're just an Oculus fanboy
I think this is where the disconnect is between the rest of us and you. I can only speak for myself but I don't think Oculus is "evil", criticizing some of their decisions doesn't mean I have some kind of intense hate boner for them or something. Rational people criticize things they like and dislike without issue. You shouldn't see that criticism as a direct attack on you personally. Valve has fucked me way harder in the past than Oculus ever could and one of my all time favourite industry icons works at Oculus. But we need to be able to discuss Oculus's issues in this thread (as well as Valve's of course) without people getting angry about it (as an example of this, I've complained about the consistency of steam vr here in the past and no one from the valve camp really got upset about it)
Anyway, I actually think it's totally reasonable for Oculus to have their own API. As an engineer who does software for my company I know first hand how important it can be to have full control of you own software. It's not quite black and white though because it can scare away consumers to see fragmentation and the signs of another console war scenario on the horizon, and without open vr all vr games would be using the oculus sdk which is a massive conflict of interest. Oculus needs to be asked to add support for another headset, and could leave good competitors out in the cold if they wanted to. I don't think that kind of closed gatekeeper scenario would be good for the industry.

They look pretty similar to the Xbone controller thumbsticks, which I quite like. Still my go to controllers for local co-op and games that are best for gamepads, wish they weren't so expensive tho.
Can we talk about how the oculus touch thumbsticks are weird cone things
What's weird about them? They felt just like the Xbox One gamepad sticks to me, although a tiny bit smaller.
2 Days later and my Touch is apparently still sitting in the Netherlands warehouse...
:disgust:

Could be worse, they could be TOUCHPADS
why is valve so obsessed with those things, I hate them so much. And even the vive controllers 2.0 are going to be using them

I personally love the touchpads on both the Vive wands and the Steam Controller, they feel really good and accurate, and their control flexibility is impressive.
Depends on the game, sometimes you don't really need the accuracy and not having clearly defined "up, down, left, right" controls gets really frustrating
Most importantly the vive touchpads don't don't have bumps or rings so it's not always easy to figure out where your finger is placed right away
They're also kind of in an awkward position, I got a bit more used to it lately but back when I got my vive my finger would constantly slip on it causing all sorts of problems

I'd say my only improvement to the pads would be maybe a light "+" shaped crease to let you sense the quadrants? But really I prefer the touchpads, I feel like they're so much more versatile than just a plain thumbstick. I don't really understand why people don't like them :(
I eventually bought a ps4 gamepad since I was tired of the steam controller but also wanted something supported by valve's controller management. Touchpads are frustrating for me because I rely on tactile feedback to know what my thumb is doing on a controller. Without the resistance towards the center of a thumbstick I forget where I've put my thumb on it. I have a similar problem with the d-pad-- I rock my thumb on a normal one, and if you do that on the steam controller the whole thing clicks down and I can't tell if it registered right or not.
The steam controller is fantastic for PC games designed with mouse functionality. Games that were designed with thumbsticks in mind become a bit tricky in my experience.
It's personal preference but it's one reason why I'm leaning towards the oculus rift over the vive.
I really love how versatile the trackpads are. I think they go really well with VR. I just wish the Vive controllers had more buttons.
My order has been in "processing" for days, but the "My UPS" service reveals that it has already shipped to arrive to me on the 6th (it tells you what shipments are headed to your address). How do I access this? Oculus doesn't have a tracking number for me and my UPS account with the same email address as my Oculus has no information to display!
Got UPS processing mail for my Oculus earphones order, it'll be delivered on Monday. Touch is shipping a bit later I guess.

It's the "UPS My Choice". You sign up for that on their main website and set your address, and it's on the Delivery Planner calendar page.

that's pretty fucked since you were an original kickstarter
it's great that they have the stock to confidently ship all the Touches, but they still should have given orders like yours enough preferential treatment to arrive on the right day despite being in the Netherlands

http://venturebeat.com/2016/11/30/sony-facebook-and-google-dominate-vr-with-over-50-market-share/
Early estimates with the top companies not sharing their exact figures, but an accredited market analysis firm had these findings:
To find the answer, my firm has been researching the VR market for the past few months. We evaluated and estimated product sales for over 30 companies and 40 products globally through revenues and units sold/used for each of the vendors. Here are some of our findings:
1. In 2016, hardware makers dominate the VR market. Sony (PSVR) is clearly leading and is taking one third of the whole market. This is thanks to a) the large installed base of about 40-50 million Playstations sold to users who are the perfect target for a VR upgrade and b) the best balance of price/performance for the VR headset around the $300-$400 price point.
2. Sony is followed by Facebook (the Oculus platform) and Google (Day Dream, Card Board, Tilt Brush, etc.); neither company has a VR user base anywhere close to Sony’s, and their products are either at the low end or a bit too expensive. Still, both companies are generating hundreds of millions of dollars already in 2016, thanks to their brand and the quality of their technology.
3. Samsung follows with another mobile headset (Gear VR). And HTC is close behind with its high-end headset, Vive, thanks to its partnership with Valve and the very popular Steam platform.
very confused what that graph means, so somehow CCP managed to make half as much as valve with two VR games?

Touch isn't technically shipping until the 6th so that's fine. Got plenty of mileage out of my Kickstarter backer status before so I'm not complaining. This is practically the first time I'm giving Oculus money for their consumer hardware :v:

Yeah I'd like more details, but they're attributing all of the Vive sales directly to HTC instead of Valve, and are probably not including SteamVR game sales either judging by how Insomniac Games has its own listing instead of attributing their game sales to Facebook.
Game developers look like they take a quarter of the market, which sounds like a fair figure in account of the cost of hardware.

Oh wow, I only just now remembered that all these Touch titles mean I finally have a reason to check out ReVive. Is Medium like, out yet??
Out tomorrow (6th) I believe, with the rest of the launch titles.

With insane luck maybe even tomorrow. But most likely wed.
Mine is out for delivery today even though it was scheduled for tomorrow.
