Honestly for me Onward looks and feels broken on so many levels.
Maps are too big for too little players, and are a mess to play on. Campers win, and those who want to move around will die sooner than later. Too many spots to camp, and you die from it seems nowhere.
Resolution of Vive or Oculus does not help to spot people in this game too. I got really turned off from the game, even tho people praise it. For me it seems people are liking it because there is no other game like this for now, and there is no choice but stick with it.
If not the exclusivity and being in VR, this game would be average at best.
Im using 1.4 supersampling for Onward, so i think that makes a huge difference to the distance from which i can see the enemy. And the map suburbia generally has much shorter engagement distances.
How is Doom 3 in VR?

probably better with something like the omni treadmill.
But it's alright.
Is leap motion a reliable alternative to vive controller?
Is leap motion a reliable alternative to vive controller?
No, not even in the slightest. It's a neat thing since it gives you actual hands in VR but it's fov is extremely limited and its tracking is pretty fucking far from perfect. I guess it depends on what you're going for. That was actually the subject of my master thesis and basically hands are more neat and kinda easier to understand the basics of for non-game people but it's incredibly unreliable if you're trying to actually do some specific task.
Played Rec Room for the first time today, so much dumb fun you can have with complete strangers
Just ordered a Daydream View!
Does anyone else have one/ordered one? Favourite games/apps so far?

Ended up going to the Microsoft store and buying Touch today. Going to be aggravating waiting two days to get home and play with them
[editline]18th December 2016[/editline]
My brother also bought a Vive as a birthday present to himself, so I'll probably try that out too, although I got to hold a Vive wand and touch in each hand today and the touch controllers definitely felt better IMO, although I can tell how it would be subjective. The Vive wands were also somehow both larger and smaller than I thought they would be. Very light though, although not as light as touch is. I also overheard multiple people walking along the streets on 5th avenue/in the Microsoft store talking about or trying VR. It really is not a fad, and when gen 2 comes out and further improvements are made, it is definitely going to get big.
So for those of you who showcased games for family during Thanksgiving, what games did you choose? Gonna be bringing my Vive to a family Christmas party.
Planned so far:
* Tilt Brush
* Google Earth VR / theBlu (for the adults)
* Job Simulator / Diner Duo (the latter might involve the audience more)
* The Lab (mostly for archery)
* Space Pirate Trainer
* Brookhaven Experiment / Arizona Sunshine (single player horde mode)

Accounting might be a good choice for the sheer comedy of it. Budget Cuts can also still be good as a smaller thing, and Gorn's also great if incredible violence is a non-issue.
H3VR's good for gun nuts, but its controls are really convoluted to newcomers so it doesn't work as well unless you're ready to do some explaining.

I thought about Accounting VR, but it's not something that can be demoed for ~20 people and that everyone will understand. I've tried demoing Budget Cuts with a smaller group and that turned out well, but a play through itself is still quite long. I'll think about Gorn, but just wondering about what my cousins will think about the animations and such. I've also attempted to demo H3VR to my friends and cousins (one of them who actually has guns), but it's a pain in the ass to explain everything because it's quite confusing overall.
Audioshield is a great one for demoing to people.
A friend of mine will only let people use her Vive if they do that walking the plank game. That was my first experience with VR... it was awful.
I found theBlu to be the most straight forward way to show VR to family members that aren't into games
Just be aware that if you buy it you're basically spending money to show off, it's like 5 minutes long

I made my sister do the plank game and while she was walking back i nudged her and she literally lept sideways face first into the wall and tumbled into the heater, Wish i recorded it.

I will never try the Omni, it's just so ridiculous and impractical looking
I will never try the Omni, it's just so ridiculous and impractical looking
I don't have one. what I mean is that it Doom3's VR Mod only has analogue stick movement. It's prone to making people motion sick. I almost threw up using it even after adjusting the speed to be lower than the default that the mod puts it at. Something like the Omni could possibly fix that since it could trick you into thinking you're actually moving, I wouldn't know since I haven't had the chance to try one.
In all honesty. Probably my worst VR experience next to Minecraft (both the mod and official VR solution)
What did you hate so much about minecraft?

This is exactly what I do.. It's wonderful
Analogue-stick movement is what I didn't like about minecraft. Also the jumping is all sorts of aweful.
Same issue for Doom3 BFG edition with VR.
Now, if you're doing more or less roomscale, and just limit yourself to the small area that gives you it's fine. It's using the stick to move outside of that area which is just barfy.
There's teleportation movement in Vivecraft, unless you mean you were playing with only a gamepad for movement.
Though, I probably have to say that I'll skip on showcasing Minecraft to family. Not everyone understands the basics of Minecraft and the controls are a bit complex for the basic gamer (ie. opening up the crafting menu, how to manage inventory, changing items for sudden combat). Maybe if there was a quick adventure map then it would be a good idea, with no need for crafting.

Oh god how do I shrink that
Analog stick movement is just something that takes a lot of getting used to in my experience. I used to get vomity in seconds when I got my headset, but I don't feel it anymore.
Thumper now supports SteamVR
Thumper also released on the Oculus Store

Any suggestions on how to mentally prepare for it?
Any suggestions on how to mentally prepare for it?
No advice really. I just did it a lot and several months later I got acclimated to it. I can't speak for everyone of course, everyone handles it differently.
Also not everyone can get over VR sickness.
