Slightly related: HDMI 2.1 spec has been released (http://www.hdmi.org/press/press_kit.aspx). Support for 4K at 120hz, 8K 30hz, Dynamic HDR and Variable Sync (FreeSync basically, though not as useful for VR due to the need for consistent frame delivery).

Still slightly behind displayport 1.4 then. Which can support up to 8k at 60hz or 4k at 120hz.

I assumed wrong earlier, HDMI 2.1 also supports 8K 60hz according to the actual doc.

same connector?
same connector?
It's not a software update so you will need new hardware that has hdmi 2.1 but the connector will be the same shape.

Damn! I haven't heard from Robmaister in forever. Sucks that the startup didn't pan out, but happy to hear he's moving on to better things, VR-related no less!
Damn, BAM VR is pretty great. It's like a better version of Onward, that doesn't make you wait on respawn screen forever, and it's crazy fun. Still in development, but it has many maps, game modes, couple weapons, everything seems to work, and optimization is great. AND it's cheaper, and has a demo! Really, try it out, worth it: http://store.steampowered.com/app/525640/
There was a poor Rifter in the game that complained about turning in game (because two cameras setup) and was eaten alive by Vivers on server. Damn.

Oh man that looks cool. Like a more accessible and less buggy Onward.
I look forward to the day that a AAA developer will pick up VR and make a PvP shooter. As bored as I am of Battlefield & CoD on consoles, I think playing that style of game in VR would be neat as fuck.

Headstrap too with integrated headphones
Oh man this is neat. This is exactly the sort of platform I wanted to support. The puck is a brilliant idea and I'd be totally down to get that audio strap if the sound quality is good.
Give me that headstrap without the headphones please, and not for a totally ridiculous price.
After some back and forth with Oculus support the past few days, including trying the Rift+cable on both mine and my friend's PCs to rule out the PC being the problem, and including logs from both + photos of the cable + compatability test results of both PCs, they've gotten enough proof to consider it a likely Rift or cable hardware fault and put me on a waiting list for the replacement.
I don't like either headset/controller/tracking solution combo enough to get either the Vive or CV1 (especially not at their current prices) but the Vive getting built in headphones would be a big swing in their favor for me because I hate having to deal with even more wires and hassle that comes with a headset. It's so convenient and streamlined to not have worry about getting sound with the CV1.
That new Vive design also seems to have the same "clamp" back plate thing that the CV1 has, which I think is way better than the ski mask way the Vive and DK2 work.
I've got to hand it to HTC and Valve, their commitment to innovation is unrivaled.
I do wonder what the Vive superfans are saying about the integrated headphones, though, considering that was such a big point of contention when the Rift was announced with them.

Any idea why they don't just sell those? Seems like it'd be so easy to offer as a $15-30 part, and then people in your situation wouldn't have to worry about dealing with support. If it happened to you, it'll be a more common issue down the line, right?

They say it's planned / are working on it. Guessing manufacturing or logistics issues are delaying.
At the moment they only have a limited amount of spare cables and are very stingy on who they send them to (resulting in massive amount of proof, photos, and logs required to be sent to get a cable).

Why not just get a wireless headset if you don't like the cables?

I haven't, Im mostly versed in teaching myself mapping (doombuilder, hammer, now unity). I went to college for graphic design and, I may be wrong here but, I was under the impression unreal took a bit more programing knowledge to accomplish much.

They really should get some consumer focused designers for the next version of the headset. This all looks more like military equipment :v:
