Just got my VR ready laptop (they even plastered that on the outside of the box), beautiful piece of tech. Thinner and lighter than my last one, and they got it to me unbelievably quick for something that was just released (I mean, I just mentioned it on this page). Will post about how well it performs later
What model? VR ready laptops make me think of those huge brick-like Alienwares

There were lighter/smaller versions but I wanted the 17.3" screen with more storage.

Not to mention those specs for that price is just insane. Nice buy lol

That's not far off from the price that people were buying VR ready 980 desktops at, in a portable laptop form factor. Working on porting files and games and shit tonight so I didn't do a VR test on it yet but I'm definitely hoping this trend continues
Anyone here have obduction and vive? I backed the game and want to know what it will play like in VR.
[editline]24th August 2016[/editline] Didn't turn out too impressive though. I wonder if you could instead have a gtx1060-1080 laptop on your back and the power for the vive on your chest or something.
Linus does not understand that you are supposed to rip connectors off rather than tie the cable down. Also, improving the weight of the tether by putting on a backpack.
The idea of the VR backpack is so silly because at the end of the day you're going to be limited to a friggen playspace around your area and the length of the vive manages that perfectly. the cable isn't some big bulky thing, and had like 5 different people try the vive and just get used to it after a minute. [editline]24th August 2016[/editline] and the new 3-in-one cable is perfect for it
The cable is a bit of a problem for games where you have to turn a lot, after a while it can get all twisted and tangled up But it's probably more economical and practical to install like a hook on a swivel on your ceiling than buying a high end laptop to put on your back, if it really bothers you that much

Unless you leave the cable ultra-slack, you can always feel it tugging upward slightly, and you can still get it tangled around your face and/or neck if you're not careful.
Obduction is out on steam. Was this not supposed to be a VR title? Why does it not have VR tags even for oculus or vive. I really want get this and test it out asap as I was really excited for this title. It's pretty much a proper class A game among the little we have for VR... So anyone know whatsup? It was a VR title right?
It is a VR title, although an Oculus exclusive at the moment via the Oculus store.
The Oculus VR version doesn't seem to be released yet either. It seems to me to be a great looking monitor game with experimental VR interests, but that VR is not the central idea. They already delayed the release by a month (to today); the devs have been really busy getting the game ready for public eyes. I've not played it yet. I wonder if they're planning on utilising motion controls. That would take a good deal more time to integrate into their game, and could explain the delay.
Anyone know why going from windows 7 to 10 caused me to lose audio if I end up plugging my headset into the HMD's audio jack instead of my computers? I don't see anything in my audio related to HTC-VIVE-0

Uh, so Hover Junkers is getting 8 new guns? Holy shit. [editline]24th August 2016[/editline] I was just saying on Reddit how they really need to add an objective gamemode. Flying around killing people is kind of boring after a while, but I feel like the game is perfectly suited for a CTF gamemode, don't you guys think?
Haven't seen this posted here:
That's pretty cool, though i'd be scared if it malfunctioned or something it would like open too much and break all your fingers
That's pretty cool, though i'd be scared if it malfunctioned or something it would like open too much and break all your fingers
The CEO did an AMA on /r/Vive and actually addressed this specific issue. I guess the servos are designed with a sort of breakaway function so that if any abnormal pressure is indicated, the system will reboot.

The user shouldn't be trying to grip with all their strength, no need to make the device excessive.

Partly for safety reasons but also because why go overboard? Typically the higher the torque in a motor the larger it is and the more it costs, for motors of similar quality. [editline]dd[/editline] read through their posts and it seems like they're already doing this as well.
the maximum torque it generates is only 40% of a normal person's finger torque: good enough for feedback, safe enough to not break anything.
He even answered questions about what the device couldn't do (like texture simulation).
Like a month ago I asked if you have problems with depth in Elite Dangerous because some youtuber talked about that, but after testing it, I'm pretty sure it works fine. I can easily see depth in dust clouds in galaxy. It's hard to see sun as such a big thing in space, because there is no reference for human brain, but it's still fine.

https://castlesteps.itch.io/the-bellows Just saw this on /r/vive, absolutely horrifying. There's not really any scares in it but the atmosphere alone and even the tiniest things seriously puts you on edge. I'm not sure if I like VR horror games at all, they frighten me too much. It's just too real. At least horror games on a monitor doesn't make me cower in fear.
Obama doing a vr
i finally got to try a vive out at the msft store. the first time i tried a vr headset was a dk2 at pax east years ago so it was fun to see the progression to good vr. straps too small for my head or it wasn't fitted properly, such is life in the big head zone (shouldn't be suprised tho, my head can't even fit "one size fits all" hats) works amazingly tho, i just liked staring at my in-game hands most of the time because it was cool to see them in a virtual space. probably shouldn't advertise it in front of a window as you can see the light coming out in the nose area.
