I'm still pretty new to VR, but what's the deal with vorpX? It is worth getting? Sorry if this has been answered a hundred times already.

i'll take the disagrees as a no thanks
Made me puke 10/10 first day vr experience
I tried the Rift + Touch at a microsoft store and the controls are disgustingly unintuitive compared to the vive. I played that one game where you cast spells and the fact that you can't actually pick up the hammer that they give you is stupid, all it does is recharge your mana.
The Rift seems like a dumpster fire compared to the Vive.
So you shit on the controllers because you tried a bad game? Ok, your opinion is a dumpster fire.
Palmer got dragged out of the shadows to tell his story at the court:

Friend tried an art game and had the same experience. I had him try Tilt brush to compare and he said that tilt brush was much better.
I came off as saltier than I meant to come off but it seems like you need a good while longer to get used to the Touch controllers as compared to the vive wands. In the 15 minute trial that I went through, it was just not good.
lol no you don't
You pick up and use both, it's not rocket science. Using the vive controllers first didn't make me have to get used to the touch controllers
If you have to "get used" to either of the controllers, I think there might be something very seriously wrong with you. They're both super intuitive, and even people who haven't been keeping up with VR generally have no issues with either.
... That might be a bit harsh. Still, everyone I've handed them to, from my 13-year-old cousin to my 70-year-old grandmother, has had no issues with them. Once they figured out what the buttons did, and they figured that out on their own, they were able to play most of the Oculus demo games.
Okay, I'm stupid then. I'll go back and try it again, maybe the controllers were messed up or something.

You're on the level right now of those people on Amazon who rate a product 1 out of 5 stars because they mistakenly ordered the wrong item

Now I feel bad because you already apologized
try restarting your PC if you haven't done so since the issue arose
Did that, didn't work.
BUT can make it work by just playing the game without starting SteamVR server first. Game executes the server automatically.
concerning the games, close the Home software and restart the Oculus services; if you don't know what that means just restart your PC
Done that as well, they just won't show up.
Rift patch coming at the end of the month that will fix tracking bugs some people have experienced.
is there a difference between vive tracking with the synch cable and visibility-based sync? I'm having issues with spotty tracking (I can't get good lighthouse positions without obstructing a major path in the house) and I'm wondering if the synch cable will help

Shouldn't matter for performance. Cable is for when visibility sync fails. I believe SteamVR should give a message if that's the case.
Oh wow that Palmer Luckey article.
It’s worth noting that ZeniMax’s complaint filed against Oculus last year questions Luckey’s claims. The document alleges that, at CES 2013, Oculus “disseminated to the press the false and fanciful story that Luckey was the brilliant inventor of VR technology who had developed that technology in his parents’ garage.” ZeniMax alleges this story is “utterly and completely false”, and that Luckey lacked “training, expertise, resources, or know-how to create commercially viable VR technology.” Later, it states that Luckey made “no substantial contribution” to the creation of the Rift.
Not quite sure where to stand on this whole case but I didn't realise ZeniMax ('s lawyers) were such assholes :v:
Being assholes is their job, they need to get the jury to buy into their narrative.
Not unlikely that Oculus will have to pay some sort of compensation in the end (just hopefully not billions), because Carmack did bring along a bit more code than he should have:
As talks about a potential partnership between Oculus and ZeniMax broke down in 2012, things began to get nasty and ZeniMax became threatening, Oculus co-founder Brendan Iribe testified in a Dallas courtroom today.
At one point, Iribe said under oath, Bethesda Softworks’ president called the Oculus team “kids” and threatened to stop then-id Software CTO John Carmack from working on anything else VR related if Oculus didn’t sign a partnership deal.
I think no matter what, all this Zenimax-Oculus thing will work badly for marketing. If they lose even anything, damn, all those news everywhere, that Facebook/Oculus got sued and lost.

It would suck in the short term for sales, but I think Zenimax is really only after money in this trial.
Regardless of the outcome, it won't stop Oculus. Zuckerberg bought Oculus because he knows that while VR is tiny right now, it's going to be worth billions a few years down the road. This will just be a setback since Facebook has more than enough in equity and cash to deal with the impact of the payout in case of a loss.
Carmack is probably going to be blamed and thrown under the bus regardless of the outcome unfortunately.

Carmack quit Zenimax to pursue VR work, and is a leader in the industry. Oculus wouldn't push him away for building their company.
Are there any other melee combat games as visceral & responsive as Gorn? Blocking attacks felt so intuitive, I need more of that in my life but Gorn is wearing thin after so many hours in it.
Anyone have any recommendations on this?
The only melee combat game I played was Vanishing Realms, but I wasn't all too thrilled about the combat. VR melee fights get into wii-mote waving territory real quick.

SuperHot's knife attacks work because your enemies are fragile crystal men that only take one hit to shatter. I'm not recommending it as a *melee* game, though.

GORN is basically the only melee game I've enjoyed because the hit detection is pretty fucking good and enemies actually react to your hits. It's really chunky and exaggerated and that's why it works.
Most melee games at the moment just have the weapon awkwardly phase through the enemy models which looks dumb and doesn't work.
I actually tried GORN for the first time tonight, and damn that game is good. It's so simple but the reactiveness of it all is what makes it.
It's super easy to cheese but it's more fun to try and fight legitimately, instead of just grabbing people and spinning them so fast they detonate everyone in the arena.
The funniest thing to do in GORN is to cut off someone's weapon arm and then holding it by the hand to gain extra reach on that weapon he was using.
Holy shit Gorn is the best thing ever but I just straight-up punched a wall with my controller :v:
Girlfriend scratched my big 3D smartTV playing Gorn :(

I do wish the armour physics mesh wasn't so large though, so many times I've hit one of em in what I could plainly see was bare skin and had the weapon glance off harmlessly.

I sure wish they'd develop the game a bit further and/or release what they've got so far as open source so people can fuck around with it. It'd be perfect for some slightly more realistic combat if the physics reactions and models weren't so exaggerated

Oh I guess it is still being developed
