That's stupid, you should be allowed any token you want. Your gm sounds like a douche
He's Ex-navy and still acts like it. When he's actually playing the game he makes a point of pretty much endlessly "teasing" me and other people for things long gone. Things like when I wasn't able to think of the college place my character went to in time, he just called it Fartsworth and constantly made reference to it. He especially likes to get at me because i'm the youngest of the group, but its not horrible. Just elementary school teasing, but it can get annoying when he repeats the SAME DAMN THING over and over. In actual game character, He's serious when on the job and when he's off duty its hookers and booze. Like I said, ex-navy. He, however, does not mean extreme harm, and has said time again that he respects me because I bite back at him. Honestly he's not the worst man in the world, nor the best. If anything he is a good D&D player, and I can put up with his yammerings. For now. If it gets too shitty i can fully get myself out of there
being a dick and then brushing it off as being 'all in good fun' when the other person is clearly annoyed is still being a dick imo

And the one he's playing in is hosted inside the house i'm sorta living in. I'll try talking to him before I start dropping games.
yeah defo talk to him, if you run out of games there's always people running shit on here too
yeah defo talk to him, if you run out of games there's always people running shit on here too
Yeah, i'm probably just gonna stick to real life stuff for reasons that go outside of this thread's current discussion area
Just hit level 2 as a storm sorceror in D&D 5e, need suggestions for level 1 spells since I can't make up my mind So far I have Sleep and thunderwave
Simple Ranged Weapons: Shortbow = Blaster Carbine Crossbow: Light = Plasma Carbine Dart = Whistler (basically this) Sling = Pneumatic Bolt Driver (silent ranged weapon) Martial Ranged Weapons: Crossbow: Hand = Plasma Pistol Crossbow: Heavy = Plasma Rifle Longbow = Blaster Rifle Net = Net (can't beat the classics) Below are my armors. I tried to come up with a little explanation and/or sales pitch to each one so that I can refer to it when questioned by my players. I wanted to have a theme of common materials for light, medium, and heavy weight material types to refer to for other types of armor plating as well, such as that found on vehicles, droids, etc. These are not the only material types, just the most common, considered to be the current standard for personal protection. As they buy, find, or steal more advanced armors, some may be made of more advanced prototype materials, or some magically enhanced suits may even use the old "ancient" materials like steel and leather. After all, it's not just a world of high tech, but high magic. Let me know what you think! Any suggestions to make these a bit cooler are appreciated.
Light Armors Standard light armors all primarily made of a resilient synthesized fiber weave called Devlar. Light, flexible, low profile. Padded = Devlar Fiber Suit (A simple Devlar weave for those working in hazardous environments). Leather = Devlar Nanoweave (The Devlar Nanoweave has more tightly woven fibers, resulting in greater protection). Studded = Devlar Composite (A Devlar Nanoweave suit with plastoid composite inserts in vital areas). Medium Armors Medium armors use a Devlar fiber undersuit reinforced with Plastoid composites for enhanced durability without sacrificing much in the way of flexibility. Hide = Plastoid Reinforcements (A Devlar Composite suit upgraded with additional Plastoid plating). Chain Shirt = Plastoid Scoutsuit (A lightweight scout suit with Plastoid composite plating covering the head, chest, and other vitals. Scale = Plastoid Battlesuit (A full-body Plastoid composite suit with Devlar joints). Breastplate = Articulated Plastoid Battlesuit (a set of fully articulated Plastoid battle armor) Half Plate = Energized Plastoid Battlesuit (Plastoid battle armor equipped with energized plating to absorb kinetic and energy-based damage). Heavy Armors Heavy Armor is composed primarily of Tritonium alloy, the final word in mass-produced personal armor. Incredibly strong and only somewhat heavier than Plastoid composites. Ring Mail = Tritonium Plate (Thick Tritonium alloy plating protects vital areas). Chain Mail = Tritonium Battlesuit (fully articulated Tritonium battlesuit). Splint = Tritonium Exoskeleton (Tritonium battlesuit upgraded with exoskeletal reinforcements). Plate = Tritonium Power Armor (A fully enclosed suit of powered tritonium armor upgraded with energized plating).
DMG has a section on ships, ship weaponry, and ship-based combat that I'm going to build some rules on for space-faring vessels. Will use some of the castles/settlement rules to help draft up stations, colonies, capital ships, etc. I'm not gonna engineer a billion damn things right off the bat obviously, just gonna have a handful of examples to refer to for the first couple of adventures and expand as needed from there. Honestly, figuring out how to adapt the systems of 5e to scifi instead of fantasy has been pretty dang easy. I am way more into this one than I ever was our fantasy campaign, and I think that's gonna show for my players! I also have a loose idea of the first mission. My players will work for a heavily marketed mercenary organization known as the Office of Miscellaneous Activities (O.M.A), where all agents are referred to as Misters (such as Mister Fish, Mister Spud, Mister Meow). The game will begin with the players being legally and ceremonially inducted into the ranks of the O.M.A by getting their own Mister names, forfeiting their old names, titles, and life. As Misters at the O.M.A. they will be dispatched on a variety of miscellaneous activities, such as assassination missions, escort missions, heists, etc. Essentially, whatever anybody is paying enough to have done. The missions will allow for the players to do things their own way with a large degree of freedom. The first mission is to assassinate a gang known as the Krashers, led by the human Krash-Bo, who have occupied a small settlement and taken several civilians hostage. The primary mission will be only to kill the gang leader, Krash-Bo, but bonuses will be paid for eliminating the gang in its entirety, capturing or destroying their ship (bigger reward for capturing), and rescuing the civilians within the occupied settlement. The players will be given a Thermoplasmic bomb (tactical nuke, basically) to use as they see fit, a frigate armed with three plasma cannons, some standard weapons and armor, and sent on their way. I won't offer any advice or suggestions on how they proceed from there. Mass destruction is tolerated, if not encouraged, but we'll see how they handle it! As shit goes on the monetary rewards will grow greater, allowing them to purchase and upgrade ships, stations, fund R&D for new weaponry, stuff like that. The primary motivation will be to achieve vast wealth and power.
Fuck man the way you describe that just makes me want to play Rogue Trader again actually I've been basically wanting to play Rogue Trader for literally years but nobody in my group would run it since it would lead to inevitable comparisons between my own RT game from last year, which was generally agreed to be pretty decent & basically alright so long as we cut out most of the abortive second season and just stuck with the first arc, which basically amounted to thwarting a chaos invasion, dealing with the Arch-militant/seneschals's baggage, and the Rogue Trader's wedding but it seems the day will never come where as a player I'll be able to sit on the bridge of a battleship, eating an apple and ordering people to focus fire on things while pointing out targets on a big screen see I would be doing all of this stuff in our Star Wars game given half a chance but considering the entire galaxy bloody wants us dead just because of one attempt to get paid twice I don't think Rear is quite willing to indulge any of my delusions of great power and no responsibility, so there's probably zero chance of me ever ending up with either great wealth or great power or a starship capable of destroying a planet in an afternoon. Or even living for the next few months, if things keep going the way they have been

I'm sure you can make it to Admiral in no time, then you can do just that with a fleet of Star Destroyers/whatever junk the Rebels pull together.
Just hit level 2 as a storm sorceror in D&D 5e, need suggestions for level 1 spells since I can't make up my mind So far I have Sleep and thunderwave
Well Thunderwave is much better at accidentally killing innocent bystanders, as my players have found out. So there's that.
So in other news, my DM might let me dual-wield shields while keeping the AC bonus from both and retaining my Battlemaster skills when shield-bashing. Next session is gonna be interesting.
That sounds super wrong, but up to your GM. I might not actually do it, honestly. It's mostly just for amusement and having the option there if we need a living wall very badly.
Anybody who thinks your idea of becoming a ball of shields is wrong will be unable to stop you because of the aforementioned shields.
The two shields will 'only' bump me up to 19 or 20 AC, and I will be doing sweet fuck all in terms of damage. I might not actually do it, honestly. It's mostly just for amusement and having the option there if we need a living wall very badly.
No, it's 20 AC assuming you are using Chainmail, which is free as one of the starting fighter kit items. Heavy armor disregards dexterity modifiers entirely in 5e, whether it's a penalty or a bonus. That means you have 16 AC from chain, +4 (each shield is +2 if you are allowing them to stack), making it 20. Then, with the fighting style that adds +1 AC, you have 21. 21 AC for a character right out of chargen is NUTS. Shields do 1d4 damage, and with Shield Master you can use a bonus action to knock down enemies with a hilariously easy opposed Athletics test, making all your melee attacks have advantage. 1d4 damage isn't THAT little in 5e tbh, and the insane AC makes it all worth it if you go with that. Things will only get MORE insane if you get magic shields and armor, since bounded accuracy means NOTHING your party is really fit to fight can touch you at all.
space armour
Some quick notes (just some things that stood out, without thinking too much about this) - Hide armour isn't better than studded, it's actually worse - but cheaper. So Hide armour shouldn't be a reinforced version of the studded one. Chain shirts and breastplates are supposed to be very light, even concealable under articles of clothing in some cases, so I would put those in a seperate class from hide, scale and half-plate armours - possibly some kind of protective vests or protection layered into clothing. Ring Mail is very bad armour, I would avoid puttign it on a similar level as your other armours. It's actually worse than scale - consider making it some kind of cheap heavy armour, like just scrap plating or something. Leather armour doesn't give better protection than padded, it only gives better weight and mobility.
My players will work for a heavily marketed mercenary organization known as the Office of Miscellaneous Activities (O.M.A), where all agents are referred to as Misters (such as Mister Fish, Mister Spud, Mister Meow). Even if in the story the names are chosen by the organisation, the players should still get to decide the names they want the organisation to give to their characters.
The two shields will 'only' bump me up to 19 or 20 AC, and I will be doing sweet fuck all in terms of damage. I might not actually do it, honestly. The game isn't balanced for that, but it won't completely break the game unless your party is finding other ways to boost your defense up (like stacking it with a real shield of faith spell from a cleric, or some other concentration buff). That said, I'd never allow it personally.

My DM's still on the fence about whether to give me a full +4 AC or lessen it to +3, since he though the former would be slightly too strong. I also didn't take the fighting style that gives me +1 AC; I took Protection instead (which has saved the other members of the party from taking crits to the face several times). There's also the fact that I didn't take Shield Master, nor am I right out of character generation. We just hit level 4 after killing a dungeon boss. My second shield was one of the loot items we got from the fight. All that said, I do see your point. Probably best if I discuss this a little more with the DM.
on the subject of AC fuckery, i once made a level 8 phalanx fighter/golden legionnaire who had a flat 33 AC, boostable up to about 37-38 AC in a pinch, and who could transfer a fuckton of AC to an ally dm hated me for almost all of the campaign [editline]10th February 2016[/editline] combined with bodyguard, a pike and stand still, he was the most annoying combat landmine that i could muster
