Reminds me of how much I wish aliens in sci-fi games looked more like aliens and not generic lizardmen, or bugmen, or humans with rubber foreheads or differently colored skin. Where's my starfish aliens that communicate via bursts of lethal gamma radiation goddamnit I actually don't mind these kinds of aliens if they're there specifically because the setting is celebrating space opera tropes like Mass Effect or Guardians of the Galaxy.
All the alien species in Trinity are super fucking weird, although there aren't many different kinds of them. Like, for example, there's Chromatics [thumb]http://jesusfuck.me/di/4YOI/chromatic.png[/thumb] Every single one of them are psychic, partially because it's how they communicate. Not telepathy, they're all photokinetic, and they use it to communicate by shooting light at each other. then again, maybe some of the alien species in Trinity are a bit... too weird [thumb]http://jesusfuck.me/di/DRB9/are-you-fuckign-serious.png[/thumb]
fat and gross with golf ball nipples even fat human is superior
Bigots like you are why they killed half of Tamriel!
Okay, I went through and dumped literally every race other than the Aerdali. I even wiped humans from my list. I've written up a few races, though only the basics. You'll be pleased to know only one race is even remotely animal-like. Fuck originality, these people will all have a passing resemblance to humans.
Could always have a mix, or races with variable appearances, kinda like tieflings in PF can be nearly entirely human, or have hooves, hair made of smoke, and burnt skin.
I just gave my Sageline a bunch of breeds instead of having multiple animal races
Last night, my friends and I were playing Pathfinder. One of their characters died at level 3 against a level 8 wizard guy. Spoiler: [sp]They split the party.[/sp] Anyway, I let him roll up a level 3 half-elf druid, but the spells are confusing me. At level 3, they get 4 cantrip slots, 2 level 1 slots, and 1 level 2 slot. He has an 18 in Wisdom: how many extra spell slots does he get per day? Furthermore, how many spells can he prepare per day? And am I right in assuming a druid just "knows" every druid spell but can't cast them until they are the proper level?

He can prepare as many spells per day as he has spell slots. And yeah, just like clerics, druids don't need to learn spells. They just pray to nature or something.

The table for bonus spells is here; http://www.d20pfsrd.com/basics-ability-scores/ability-scores#TOC-Abilities-and-Spellcasters 18WIS would get them an extra 1st and 2ndlevel spell. You could prepare the same 1st level spell three time, or three spells for one use each, one spell twice and another once, etc. And yeah, druids can prepare any spell on their list as long as it's not an evil aligned spell if they're good aligned and that kind of thing. [editline]30th September 2015[/editline] Wow, I should refresh before posting
I should really start focusing more on good stats and abilities and less on flavor when creating characters. My sorcerer is going to be pretty underwhelming.

There is a middle ground.
a completely uninteresting character who is mechanically superb is shit a super interesting character who is mechanically shit is shit
I'd rather have a fun and interactive character than a munchkin
I haven't played with this DM before and don't know how the campaign will go, so hopefully he feels the same way. [editline]30th September 2015[/editline]
There is a middle ground.
Sure, though it's often hard for me to hit the middle ground. I used to have the opposite problem, where I'd have a character that was mechanically quite good but was basically just a pile of stats personality-wise. I am not a well balanced person, apparently.
I just gave my Sageline a bunch of breeds instead of having multiple animal races
My GM, who's running a modified D&D 5e, Gave us the option to play beastmen (humans with a few animal features, not full on anthro animals), and it's really damn fun since we can pick up what cantrips, stats and other stuff our race has, as long as it makes sense. This option saves you the time to stat dog people and makes everyone happy :v:
On the subject of mechanics and backstory, is it wrong that I make my character's crunch first and build his backstory around said crunch? When I make characters for WH40k RPGs that I'll never play I'll think of a character with interesting game mechanics, then once that's done, I'll spend around half an hour or so making sure that his backstory holds up with all the choices I made.
I usually get a general idea of a personality and role first, then start thinking about how that works in the game system and how that character would fit into the setting and how someone would get into their position. [editline]30th September 2015[/editline] Your character's role in the group is always an important thing to consider when making characters. I'm sure your distrustful loner dude who doesn't like strangers and is duplicating someone else's skillset has a compelling backstory and all, but you've got to be able to work with everyone else effectively.
To be honest, I usually know what character I want backstory wise, and then try to get the stats to fit what they are doing. Like with my Twilight 2000 characterer where I just wanted an English Translator Radar Operator Russian Conscript, went to Tech School, and then rolled for the war to start immediately. Now to never play, because no one plays Twilight 2000.

Because nobody ever plays. Is it IRC/play by post or what? I'd be down for actually using my rulebooks for a change.
we're playing in roll20, skype for organisation, we were text only but we've been considering switching to voice because it was quite slow
Skype gets dodgy for me sometimes but I'd probably be up for it. How often do you play?
sundays at 7pm gmt
I might be able to join. Anything I should know for character creation/sign up?
Could GM it. I might be interested but I'd have to read the rules first since I hear they're fucking nuts.
I remember the rules not really holding up well tbh if I were to GM it I'd just do it in GURPS (to preserve the crunchiness) or just roll with Savage Worlds or something, 'cause I remember not really liking the system but really digging the idea and atmosphere (then again it is probably the only RPG game I've ever seen set in my own country so that might have something to do with that :v:) comedy option: use the simplified version of Phoenix Command rules from the Leading Edge Games Aliens RPG I've got laying around somewhere
Last night, I got to DM a player whose character has a permanent messiah complex and a character who had been temporarily cursed to think she was the bee's knees of the entire Forgotten Realms. Said players were also really into roleplaying. Probably the most fun session I've ever had.
