druid bad guys would be fun too
A druid who hates people because they keep chopping down trees/hunting animals/killing bothersome predators like wolves, so he goes and "reclaims" a village?
What about sinkholes opening up throughout town, flooding the place with giant spiders that had a huge colony underground

Leading up to an eventual Drider confrontation.
[editline]24th March 2016[/editline]
That or just a giant spider queen thing. If that exists and has stats. (It probably does.)
How about an actually friendly Tarrasque being confused and misled by a drider wizard trying to use it to cause havoc on the surface and open up sinkholes with its huge feet that would allow the giant spiders to come out?

Which turns out to be an epic level wizard fucking around with illusions and scrying spells to create a reality TV show for himself.

The only way to hurt him is to start a live TV rap battle and have him get boo'd at by the elf counterpart of Simon Cowell.
Also, you get to hug the Tarrasque as it leaves to harass the next region.
The problem is roll20 gives you legitimately random numbers, but you're expecting psuedo-random numbers, where it intentionally tries to avoid repeating a result.
It's like when iTunes made their shuffle thing give you a random song, but people bitched because it would give them a song by the same band or off the same album as the last one they heard, so they changed it to be psuedo-random and do that less often.
essentially this. Duplicate dicerolls happen IRL too, but you're less likely to register them because you're not staring at a log of all the rolls while playing.
that said, I started playing only war with some classmates last week and our completely new to RPGs Heavy Gunner-dude got a 4x Righteous Fury with a lasgun for 48 damage, completely vaporizing the ork nob that was going to end up in melee with him.
Which has a chance of 10%*10%*10%*10% to happen, statistically. Good dice.

he used up all of their crit juice, its all downhill from here
Hey guys, some friends and I are getting into D&D. We don't really know anybody else who plays, so we're teaching ourselves.
I got a bunch of prerolled character sheets from the D&D site, and I'm having trouble understanding the proficiency section:

If my understanding is correct, all of the skills, weapons, etc, get +2 for any rolls requiring checks. So why do the first few (as well as the Senses passive entry) have other +x number beside them?

Because the attribute bonuses apply to them. They get the +2 from Proficiency, as well as whatever attribute bonus is relevant. For example Athletics gets +2 From Proficiency, as well as the +3 from Strength, and Religion gets the +2 from Proficiency, and the -1 from Intelligence.

Ohhh! Thanks!
Holy shit
Today I learned that, thanks to based 4e rules, this cybersam I'm making has functionally a load more essence because you only count the higher of cyberware or bioware essence loss at full value, the other only counts half
Coupled with the ridiculously good rules for autofire this really is the edition to be playing a combat borg in goddamn

Except for deltaware putting a zero on the end of what things cost, yeah.
Except for deltaware putting a zero on the end of what things cost, yeah.
Well compared to 5th, where most 'ware is a hell of a lot more expensive by default and higher grades have higher availability so you can't really try to be efficient at chargen anyway, this is pretty nice
Then again almost everything except some bioware, ironically, is a hell of a lot cheaper in 4e

Those skills numbers are also factoring in the related attributes. It's weird that the pre-gen characters on the wotc site use statblocks instead of actual character sheets.

Sibs pls don't break my gf's Shadowrun game.
Sibs pls don't break my gf's Shadowrun game.
I'm not trying to break it
I'm just being happy that it favors my favored character archetype
This just means that when we inevitably end up ass-deep in cops because we fucked up somewhere along the line, it might not be a foregone conclusion that we're all going to die
I am drowning, Drowning in 5e books trying to make lists of encounters that are reasonably fair oh god, there is so much text, i have so little coffee. send help, or advice.
For reals though, i wouldn't have any idea on how to build anything on the fly, there is so much to absorb, anyone know any sites that list these monsters by CR instead?

These should help you build encounters
just keep in mind that swarms of creatures (even at far lower CRs) will melt parties far faster than single creatures.

WotC has their own. I can also PM you an excel sheet I have, I can't find the original source for it or I'd link it here.
So, there is no time limit to the animals spawned from a bag of tricks in 5E.
One of my players has started an army of Giant Hyenas, Black Bears and Tigers. :v:
our party fought off an encounter meant for level 12s at level 4 jesus
i never thought diehard would ever come in handy until now, and i was almost always 1 away from just dying >.>
our brawler had built for sundering and had an adamantine tonfa, and that is the only reason we won that day, he broke their swords and shields one or two at a time over and over again >.> our magus had been out the entire fight, taken out after taking out the leader(who would have one hit us 100-0), our monk went unconcious 3 times, we basically sat in a small rectangle as a formation to prevent us from being flanked by all of them on the side of the ship
after beating around 30 guys our dm just said "alright you guys win" then we stole a warship
spent all of our hero points for that ship totally worth it

Probably a good idea to nip that nonsense in the bud, hard cap to the 3 per day summon OR have them lose control of any more than 3 so they act as the animal normally would. It's not meant to be used that way, and is way too strong if you DO use it that way.
Highlight from today's XCOM session: When assaulting mysterious subterranean alien bases, it pays to come prepared for a long fight. Smart preparations include bringing a pack mule along to carry useful supplies- things like first aid and surgery kits, demolitions tools, 20 pounds of Semtex and 10 spare M72 LAWs.

Fuck no. This is gonna be fun as all hell to see my players try and destroy the tyrannic rule of religious warriors and their Allosaurus cavalry, with their army of animals.
[sp]but yeah I might have to add some rule to it so it doesn't spin too much out of control[/sp]
Myself, a friend and a few of his friends are starting a Pendragon 5th game tomorrow, playing through the Grand Campaign or whatever it's called. Does anyone have any experience with the game, and any advice to share? We're not a mixmaxy group or anything, so it's not a matter of trying to 'win', but any experiences you all have would be great.
i think that was the game i played a few years ago. we tried to get through the whole thing in 24 hours i can safely we managed neither that nor were we capable of movement afterwards.
Had someone literally fall asleep mid session, put my phone right next to my desk mic and triggered an alarm, hearing the confused ass scramble as he fell off his chair was worth the like 10 min of him falling asleep :v:
