just gmed a shadowrun test session. i like gming a lot! my group said i did a great job and i feel like i incorporated everyone in our session. i had to come up with a shitload of npcs on the fly and i feel like i did pretty good job with that too.
the only thing that my group didn't like is that shadowrun is fucking complicated. they felt like pathfinder was way more streamlined and they prefer pathfinder over shadowrun. though they really enjoyed doing swat team level planning tactics and breaching and clearing shit. i think when we decide to play shadowrun after pathfinder i'll make a campaign geared towards planning out shit

like i had a simple crack den shakedown for one encounter and a gang hq raid on another but the shakedown took longer than i anticipated so we didn't get to do the gang hq raid
Well they were neither psychic nor good at dodging and somehow still managed to fight off 20 conscripts and a tank without dying
granted there were like, 5 different critical injuries, and it was the first fight of the game, but nobody is perfect
Fuck dodge, niw that i have an evicerator im getting hard target and charging my soviet ass at -all- the tamks
About to DM my first D&D game as a one-shot in thirty minutes. I've only ever DM'd once before and that was for a Dungeon Delvers one-shot. Wish me luck!
Whew. I was pretty nervous gming there, but all my notes seem to have paid off. They got through the one-shot in about 4 hours, killed some bandits, saved a village, discovered a plot hook in case we ever pick it up again and everyone said they had fun.
That went way better than I thought considering I basically didn't sleep last night. I'm going to go collapse now.

That's Shadowrun, jobs are one third planning, one third combat, and one third actually doing the job
Half of my SR group are wanted by the yakuza, and the other half are now taking bounties from the yakuza. Let's just see how this pans out.
i thought i was the only one wanted by the yaks

Yeah, but Tatsu is basically joined at the hip to you

If I ever GM a game I might have it so every player has taken up a hit for one other player and see where it goes from there.

i hope you're not planning for that to be a very long game
Today, in Demon: THE GROUP FINALLY MET EACH OTHER
It only took 5 sessions.
Also, Diamond got an info-dump on one of the companies she was looking into, and pal'd around with an Angel for a bit before realizing he was an Angel.
Next session, with any luck: [sp]COMBAT WITH AN ANGEL[/sp] :dogcited:

Whoa whoa wait... you played the first five sessions... with the group split?
It's a minor miracle that you guys are still playing.

The first session started with the 2 players I had then meeting up. Second session started with the third player joining and starting to track the first 2 down. Third session started with the 4th guy joining and fucking shit up in a plot-related place.
Then one of the first 2 dropped out so it was down to a disconnected group of 3, and I finally got around to having them all run into each other this session.
I'm hoping shit picks up, after this, too. My original plan was to have them on a different story, by now, but they're still working on the first one.([sp]There is a chance I may just blow up the first story if they take too much longer.[/sp])
Today in D&D 3.5: A group of 4 level 1 character not really well made for direct combat (Social Bard, Gnome Rogue, Sorcerer, and a Ranger) alongside 4 NPC level 1 Fighter and a Halfling fighter who was useless and may or may not have been a Goblin herself, have killed 27 Goblins. That's as many as three 9's. And that was alright. It all came down to having the NPC goons tank the Gobo's, while we all spammed ranged attacks. We also all have learned how to Feint, which is terrible because Bard/Sorcerer have hilariously high Bluff, and will therefore use it every time.
I want to eventually run one of the CoD games but nobody in my group is much interested, guess I'll just sit here reading lore. I have no idea why I like Geist so much.
God, I miss DnD. Used to play every Monday but our DM got tired of it :(

Be the DM then.
Just realized that, after about 8 months of play, my Shadowrun party has fully rotated. Not a single character who started the game remains in the party, with four deaths and one retirement
This is where the big text flashes up with CRIME DOES NOT PAY
I've never played D&D or anything similar, but I want to start playing it with my friends. I've been doing some research and it looks like the Pathfinder starter kit would be a good choice. The D&D starter kit is cheaper, but is apparently missing tons of useful things. Is my general impression correct or am I about to make a huge mistake?
Also since none of us have played any pen&paper game before I'd probably try to DM. Is there any chance of doing a decent job of that without having any experience? Any tips?
I'd go with Pathfinder if you don't want to spend to much, since most of whatever's not in the starter kit you can get on their wiki thing.
Was chatting with some of my friends on Discord about the fun I've had GMing tabletops.
Long story short, I now have seven players lined up for a Pathfinder game.
I've gotten in over my head, send help.

DnD is easier to learn and play, but pathfinder is totally free.
I've never bought a book, I've always borrowed from friends.
/Somehow know the book better than they do sometimes

To be fair, from what I know, Geist is basically the best anime.
[sp]Jojo's Bizarre Adventures[/sp]
:dog:
[editline]5th April 2016[/editline]
For those who aren't aware, in Geist you play someone who died, but right on the brink of death got an offer from a powerful ghost that's basically "keep living as the servant of your ghostly sugar-daddy who will ride around in your mind from now on, or die." They can do some pretty cool shit, and iirc a lot of it involves their Geist visibly separating from their body to do the things, a la a Stand.
It's just that nobody heard of it because it was published right before White Wolf went under and the first book they put out was full of massive errors, which lead to a reprint shortly after release and nothing else being put out for it(Besides a couple of adventures).
And here I thought you guys were talking about an RPG based off of the Gamecube game Geist.

Nope.
That'd be oWoD's Wraith, or Orpheus, probably. :v:

Yeah Orpheus is pretty close. Not Wraith though.
Aaaaaaah that new character feeling. Nothing quite like subverting the party's expectations of a spell caster by having 9 int and an accent straight out of siblingfuck Alabama.
The best part is being related to the most hoity toity character in the party. We's is kin!
