After a harrowing encounter in the deepest part of the Underdark our party took refuge in a small cave. In a moment of amazing uncoordinated roleplay our agnostic Fighter, suffering heavily from fatigue planted his sword into the ground and prayed to a deity for the strength to last four more hours until his watch ended. Meanwhile the Paladin, equally exhausted, snuck deep into the cave and broke down punching and pounding on his Holy Shield, having felt abandoned and betrayed by his god for all the horrors that had befallen him and his party on his 'divine quest'. Having two characters grapple with faith at the end of the session as a reaction to all the pain and misery the Underdark had thrown at them felt very genuine and was one of those great moments that really makes me love playing this game.
tonight in our D&D game our ranger's wolf companion got killed by an exploding sand worm
A cave is a cave and not mearly cave-like. Cave-like implies it has properties that are dissimilar to a cave, whereas a cave has no properties that are not properties of a cave.
You said it also had to not have another descriptor, so that means that whatever you're looking for would still be called a cave despite only being cave-like.
