session #2 of 5e done they still don't know I'm not a cleric
Maybe you ARE a cleric, then, and the only one you are fooling is yourself!
So I just built a character for Mechwarrior: A Time of War who starts the game with a Battlemaster. Anyone know of any games? :v:
Tonight's game was pretty dope. We were prisoners in some kind of fuckin' rock-smashing slave camp in a big ole cave, yeah? And we had to do a prison break. Prison break! As the rogue, I went through all the trouble of scouting out the area while they were making us do slave stuff, having the other dudes in my party make a distraction so I could steal some poison, and pickpocket a crossbow bolt off a guard, all just to miss my goddamn attack roll when I tried to poison the guard with a crossbow bolt jab to the neck. We had to fight our way out the hard way. Still fun, though. Pretty good. The other two members of our party were, like, mid-fifties and took the game a lot more seriously than I prefer, but it was still a good time.
I've always wanted to try D&D but could never find a group to play with, so I finally decided to convince a few friends to try it and DM for them (5th Ed). Nobody had any idea what to expect and the only example I could give them was that IT Crowd episode, but everybody's having a blast. What makes it even better is they're all theatre people so once I broke the ice by acting a few NPCs they really started to get into character themselves. It's definitely a 'why the fuck haven't I been doing this my whole life' thing. Anyone know where can I find cheapish miniatures? I've got a bunch from Reaper Miniatures so I have all the player characters and some unique characters sorted, but I'm looking for bulk generic NPCs like town guards, bandits, orcs etc. I thought about getting some Games Workshop packs but fuck those prices.
I've only played with miniatures on a grid once, and it was a mixed bag. For smaller encounters, I definitely prefer just having the whole "theater of the mind" experience, but when you're fighting several enemies in a crowded environment, the grid makes everything make so much more sense. I wish I could have a regular game night with my friends instead of just heading to the local comic shop. The regular crew at the shop are okay for the most part, but this kind of game just gets ten times better when you're with good friends who aren't shy about gettin' into it. I know my friends would all be totally game to play, but I would definitely get stuck being the DM, and I really dislike DMing.
The key to dming, and probably one of the hardest parts, is finding what systems you like to/can run. I love shadowrun, but there's no fuckin' way I'm running another shadowrun game.
I love D&D 5e's system and know I could DM it no problem, it's simple but powerful, I just don't enjoy being the DM very much judging from past experience. I did it once or twice for Heroes Unlimited, and it's more work than play.
Guys guys guys, we all know that Kobold paladins are the best of them all.
Can confirm Kobold paladins are best, playing one right now. Became the defacto party leader from session 1, and now im a heavily armored noble Kobold knight leading a party of 13 prisoners, and we haven't lost anyone or even engaged in combat, hell we haven't even lost any health. Kobold pack tactics personified
It's been a long time coming, but it finally came. SUUUUPERRRR SMAAAAAAASH MEKTOOOOOONNNNN well the match is already over. We skipped getting an audience for time saving, but here are the results. CSG vs Sibs.
CSG172's mek is the HV III.B Custom, "Sniper Hound". A standard Humanoid configuration, it features exactly mediumweight Servos and armor, and enough thruster propulsion to fly with speed. Its Sensors are standard, but feature a Target Analyzer and Magnetic Resonance Lens, which will allow it to see opponents through cover and even if they're invisible! Its Supercharged Hot Powerplant increases both maneuverability and response time, though this weighty mek is still a tad sluggish on the latter. Its highly accurate, high damage, extremely long range sniper can punch clean and precise holes in anyone with its armor piercing rounds from across the map. Its head also features anti-missile vulcan miniguns. Siberys' Mek, the MISAKA, is a humanoid configuration. It's frail as can be (but not so frail as a TERRORBEE) with light servos and minimal armor. With high-speed GES he can effectively scoot along the ground at high speeds. His weapons are low damage, but high accuracy, and with the variety between AP and shock rounds, he's sure to chew through your defenses if you're not prepared. In addition to the absurd multitude of stealth systems he stocks, he has a sensor jamming system and Shadow Imager to create mind-boggling duplicates that'll tank a hit should he fail to dodge. His maneuverability is bar none.
SIIIIIIIIIBERYSSSSSSSSSS WIIIIIIIIINS! After a slogging 2 hours of poking and shocking with needle-like, low-damage, burst-fire shock rounds, blasting apart armor and at one point a leg, Siberys finally overwhelmed CSG172 and shocked his standard-plated Mek's pilot to death. Though not without a fight, as CSG172 rolled some absurd dice, courtesy of Roll20's fancy laser roller. He couldn't score a hit past Sibs' many shadow clones, though. Final match. Sibs vs Nerts. Who will win? Find out next time! [t]http://i.imgur.com/9rdJpZv.png[/t]
Maybe a necromancer cleric for the hell of it. Bothers me though that I have to be evil aligned. Alignments are so restrictive, why can't I personally view it as not evil? The whole idea of the character is that she thinks bringing people back as the undead is better than leaving them dead, because at least they are kind of a little alive, if not really.

And worse than that, everyone else's fun depends on how creative you are. There are times when you work hard on an idea, and you think it's really cool, and then the whole group just passes on it. It's a lot of fun, but goddamn, it's taxing sometimes.

I've got 20 bucks on my homeboy sib, use that waifu mech powahhh
My character's love interest died today, alongside three NPCs in the party he was charged to protect.

My first Heroes Unlimited campaign's two coolest moments happened because they broke the narrative I had planned.
Last night in my vampire group, we finally faced CONSEQUENCES. As part of a running joke based on the Bloodlines game, Astrolite is our explosive of choice. Now, the game says it's "10 times bigger than TNT", it doesn't say that it's an explosive used to destroy chunks of mountains. So when we blew up a bar of satanist bikers, we took a fair bit of Windsor with it. Whoops. Over an ingame year, Astrolite has been used three more times and as a joke, we've blamed it on ISUK (Islamic State in the United Kingdom). However last night, the head of ISUK was killed on the streets and now there's an all out race-war on the Streets of London as ISUK are attacking Catholic Churches and the Lancea et Sanctum respond in kind by blowing up Mosques and oh god help.

Or if you wanna go even more "poor mode" you can use dice as minitaures (just use the various numbered sides to indicate what monster it is).

My players almost wiped during the boss fight of Part One of the Lost Mines of Phandelver. The Druid and Warlock were unconscious due to lucky Goblin arrows and the Rogue was left at the bottom of a staircase at 1hp as an angry, flaming bugbear charged at him. The weakened bugbear proceeded to slip on the ball bearings the Rogue had tipped onto the stairs previously, breaking his neck. All in all, a good first session of 5E, would play again.
In my experience, the Lost Mines of Phandelver is deadly murderous to PCs.

You're actually stealing away the soul (or at least part of the soul, it's a bit unclear) from it's rightful afterlife and binding it to the remains of it's body. Which is extremely painful. It's why Animate Dead has a duration of immediate, unlike a similar spell such as Animate Object. The spell doesn't need to supply any lingering magical energy to keep the corpse animated, it simply has to perform the binding. From there, the bound soul keeps the corpse going in eternal agony. You could still personally view it as not being evil, or your character could be ignorant of what they're actually doing, but it's hella evil.

[editline]15th October 2015[/editline] Like, can I bind the soul to just a part of the body? If all I have is a finger or something? Can I bind it to an inanimate object? Can I bind it to a body other than its own? Can I bind it to a creature's body? Can I bind multiple souls to the same vessel? Etc. I'd need to steal a lot of souls. [editline]15th October 2015[/editline] And fuck up a lot of bodies.
In my experience, the Lost Mines of Phandelver is deadly murderous to PCs.
Our cleric was 2 hit points from being outright killed by the first Bugbear due to a critical. Would've made for a fun first session for all. "So that character building and backstory stuff we spent the first hour and a half on? You'll just need to do all that again. But no guys it's a really fun game can't wait to see you next week."
