Great fodder for adventure hooks, random stuff, and other fun happenings.
Randomly selected examples acquired by flicking my scroll wheel and picking the first name I read include:
Attrecoppea (petty goddess of very small spiders)
Barococar (petty god of absurd architecture)
Bartleby (petty god of inactivity) TITLES: Bartleby the Scrivener
Corotus Thallian (petty god of flying apes and other chimerical beasts)
Dekardinis (petty god of delvers, adventurers and ten-foot poles)
Fluxalle (petty god of corroded cookware and brewing gone bad)
Raselom (petty god of fitful and unpleasant rest) TITLES: The Sleeping Bastard
Tremella (petty goddess of pub-crawling and drunken love) TITLES: Tremella of the Cups
Among many, many more. There's like, 200 pages of this stuff, with full descriptions and pictures and stats and everything. Also, it's free. Examples I remember offhand include a god that's literally the Man in the Moon, a god of tiny light sources in underground tunnels, a god that feeds monsters who wait in rooms for their entire lives to ambush an adventuring party, a goddess who visits you just before your death...

I think this one deserves its own mention, now that I've spotted it.

"Petty"
13 pages of notes for adventure, npcs, general plot, major encounters and minor ones, some illustrations of characters /area. One of my teachers tipped I could sign off concept art work sample by making illustrations for potential module.
Kinda intrigued now. But I haven't GM'd a whole lot ( especially not in 5e ) and I haven't written much, but feel quite inspired by some of older, tough modules ( like Return to the Tomb of Horrors ). Most of my sort-of-GMing has been running quests or forum adventurers.
Any tips on writing such things? Guides?
Anyone have any good DnD series to watch? Especially if they're not too long per episode.

Yogscast is usually shit but their Yogsquest series is actually really good imo. It's short though.
Also, anyone here interested in a dnd 5e Roll20 campaign?

thou hath prepared... too much
As a wizard myself, I must agree that being a wizard is absolutely the best, if not hard to get into at lower levels. Last pathfinder session me and my group did, we'd just leveled up enough to get me access to second-level spells, so naturally I picked create pit. First pit I made trapped 80% of the party with a magical feral wolf and nearly killed our semi-invincible godzilla rock monster.
I'm afraid to make more pits.
Said rock-monster here. That pit was a nightmare. To elaborate:
We are battling an enormous wolf (think Sif from Dark Souls) in a wintery, evergreen forest along with some of its human pawns. Our wizard casts pit under the wolf and it leaps aside just in time but one of its human minions falls in. I, being a 12ft tall, six-armed Trox, decide to bullrush the "little doggie" and push him in the pit successfully. My turn ends next to the pit which forces me to roll not to go along with him - I fail. I try to grab a nearby evergreen to stop my 2000lb bulk from going in but it fails to hold and rips out of the ground and falls in with me.
Now there is a 30ft tree bough pinning a raging trox on top of a gnashing, magical wolf, on top of a very-crushed human at the bottom of a very deep pit. Things only proceeded to get "better" with the rest of the party deciding to leap in as well to assist.
How plausible is it to play shadowrun or dnd on tabletop sim?
DM'd a session tonight with a supreme moment of player idiocy.
Party runs into room with a group of rather obviously booby-trapped statues. These can be rather obviously avoided by solving a riddle. Player A proposes a way to solve said riddle. Player B goes to try it. Player A climbs the statues to draw on their faces with charcoal.
Player A nearly dies.

Ezpz, look into roll20
How plausible is it to play shadowrun or dnd on tabletop sim?
Pretty easy. I know there's several games on the workshop that are basically just a big empty table with a grid on it, and a tablet sitting at every possible player seat that starts opened to the Myth-Weavers character sheet list thing.
Alternatively, some of them replace the empty table with a big ass screen and the creator's choice of map-drawing website or roll20.
Ezpz, look into roll20
I think he meant Tabletop Simulator. And it works pretty great from what I understand.
I have a Pathfinder question.
I currently have a level 4 Paladin with 3 STR. I'm using a Greatsword and Power Attack. When I score a critical hit, is this how my math should look like?
(2d6 + (STR*1.5) + Power Attack) * 2
Or
(2d6 + (STR*1.5)) * 2 + Power Attack
And if I include Smite Evil, would that fit into the first or second equation? I've currently been using the top equation, which outputs silly amounts of damage (I scored a critical hit earlier that did 50 damage).
The Core Rulebook says:
A critical hit means that you roll your damage more than once, with all your usual bonuses, and add the rolls together.
The bolded part throws me off. Smite Evil and Power Attack aren't precision damage right?
i believe the power attack damage is doubled as well. but i can't say for sure

Your crit damage should be (2d6+STR*1.5+Power Attack) + (2d6+STR*1.5+Power Attack)
With Smite Evil it should be (2d6+STR*1.5+Power Attack+Paladin Level) + (2d6+STR*1.5+Power Attack+Paladin Level)
Crits make you roll again, not just x2 the damage.
Your crit damage should be (2d6+STR*1.5+Power Attack) + (2d6+STR*1.5+Power Attack)

But you're essentially taking everything but the dice roll and times it by 2. So generally speaking, I've been doing it mostly right. That just seems crazy. I can easily output more than 15 damage per hit with Power Attack.
critical hits are nothing to sneer at my friend.
critical hits are nothing to sneer at my friend.
That's why I'm waitng for somebody to make a character with leadership, have a cohort that has a keen 18-20 weapon, for that feat called Butterfly Sting, and the PC wields a x4 melee weapon that's two handed. Sure it's super cheesy, but it would be hilarious.

I had a player try to hug a vampire lord who promptly charmed her and then she lightning bolted her friends, that was fun.
So is being able to do two 1d8+1d6Electricity+5 ranged touch attacks per round at level 5 overpowered or is it just me?
So is being able to do two 1d8+1d6Electricity+5 ranged touch attacks per round at level 5 overpowered or is it just me?
Depends on the system. Doesn't sound that bad to me, compared to some shenanigans you can pull.

As touch attacks, yeah, it sounds kinda strong. An 18 str ranger could do that much damage at level 5 with a +1 shock weapon, no problem, though.

Speaking in Pathfinder terms, at least.
Going to be DMing my own campaign pretty soon for 5e, bought the PHB, have .pdfs of the DMs guide and Monster Manual and other 5E documents. Also bought a gridded battle map for dungeons, buildings and battles.
I created maps for Islands (the setting is pirate/Caribbean theme on a archipelago), cities, characters and back story to the world the players are in.
Used generators to generate some islands and drew city maps in Photoshop.
My god I hope don't mess up, haven't got a lot of 5E experience due to sessions/campaigns always stopping as soon as they start but I'm trying to read the PHB and my friends are pretty understanding and willing to help out as well.
Just very unsure what the best way to do fair encounters is, to make sure the players have fun in the fight but not make it too easy for them either. Is there a decent generator that can estimate what would be best depending on party numbers and levels?
Giving out exp is something that worries me as well, I know that monsters have exp they give out when they die but I'm not sure how much exp to give out if a quest is completed or if they find some good loot. I don't want them leveling too quickly because I just threw exp their way.

I found a simple calculator for you, which should make calculating difficulty and exp awarded for encounters quite easy. It looks a bit simplified though, so make sure you cross examine from the monster manual when you can.

I will always be in the camp that you should just level your players up when you want
I will always be in the camp that you should just level your players up when you want
Plus, awarding different amount of XP for different actions among the party is kinda dumb since most players will start grabbing for XP in a game where you pretty much want everyone at the same level.
Guys, I'm working on fleshing out my GM Resource files, and I was wondering if you had some cool stuff, I'm mostly focusing on finding creatures, monsters and cool enemies, but landscapes, maps and items are nice to have too.
These are some of K T Andersson's creature concepts, he has some nice art on various pages and art sites
An idea for a nasty undead monster, or necro-demonic parasite. Basically a dead horse possessed by a demonic spirit who warps and morphs the shape of the dead body. In order to sustain itself it captures and merge itself with a human being, taking control of the living body while feeding on its life force. Such a combination creates an abomination that appears as a demonic or undead centaur

A horror made of necro slime, which according to the dark legends are the remains of ancient necromancers who dabbled to deep into the black arts. Having no mind of its own it collects the head of the dead and taps into their memories, benefitting from their experience and knowledge. It also gives it the ability of thought and speech allowing it to plot and lure new victims to their doom. Decay is slowed down but not prevented so the head will slowly rot away forcing the Skull Worm to seek new heads. The previous heads gets collected in its transparent body adding to its length and gruesome form. However, it's unable to decapitate its own victims so the Skull Worm needs to manipulate or ally itself with other sinister creatures.

A dead headless bull prepped with weapons stuck on its back. Is sent onto the battlefield in the wake of the war to feast upon the wounded and dying as the army advance, or rather swallow them whole. Before joining the battle the eaten are pressed out on the sides of the thing as enslaved appendages, forced to pick up arms and fight again, sometimes against their own side. The Battle Gorger then joins the fray for the final push that will crush the enemy and insure victory.
More of Andersson's work here, it's mostly silly semi-erotic fantasy stuff, but he has some nice other creature concepts too.

The fact that I have seen the concept for the first one in an actual hentai manga, does not help me take it seriously, no matter how cool the concept is (and I do like myself some good body horror monsters for fighting).
Although, Battle Gorger can also be modified for a whole bunch of purposes, including a miniboss mook maker.
