If you're new to mechanics focused games I'd say go with D&D 5e, Shadowrun probably isn't a good idea unless you're playing with people who know the game well and show you the ropes.
kk, so already having played a bunch of RP heavy games in the past. I wanna learn how to play D&D. So, playing it in a local area is a nogo, since im busy as fuck a lot of the time. So online is my only hope for now. Where can I best learn how to play and get started?
Honestly, finding a [sp]decent[/sp] group to play with is the hardest part. Unless you're trying to pick up one of the really rules intensive systems right off the bat, learning it is not a big deal at all if you find a group with experience.

I was searching for a new group for a whole year before I just went "fuck it", and joined the danish roleplaying and Pathfinder facebook groups, posting an anouncement about how I wanted to start a new group in my area, and that it would be newbie friendly... I had been avoiding this because I thought it would be hell to play with complete strangers who all more than likely had their own ideas of how to run a game. Turns out that within four hours I had a four man group and a scheduled game. And this group is pretty much the best group I've played with since my old group disbanded two years ago.
about to run out of the abyss for a group of new players, anyone got any advice?

So my 1-1 Mekton player is fighting from the ground against an airship that costs more than twice her Mek. To give her a bit of a chance, I threw some turrets onto the field for her to man and fire at it, to deal a little more damage than her standard armament, though they need to be manually reloaded after each shot. First shot, she nails the thing's flight system. It comes crashing down, directly on her position. Instead of turning tail to run or dodge or anything of the sort, she revs up the mining drill she was provided for the mission. Drills clean through the hull, splitting the ship in two with one (technically four but it was all one turn, so, semantics) thrust. She pierced the shit out of those heavens.
Today on 5E: AKNEMNON DEATHSONG took his secret to his grave. The other characters will never know their beloved protector cleric was a lying, dirty Bard. The players on the other hand seemed fucking amazed.
Reading through the Feng Shui 2 book for the first time and uh... [t]http://i.imgur.com/rASm0VJ.jpg[/t] Who decided this art should be in here :v:
5e Dnd The shopkeeper sold magic items to everyone, except for Dwarf-Dwarf, who shouldn't be sold items because his armour class reached 20 around the same time as reaching level 3. Let's ignore that I'm the richest player too. It's damn bad for business. (Magic items seem to be cheap enough for the others to buy them, I was the richest just shy of 300 gold) This isn't even down to some power gaming. I just looted some plate armour from an npc the GM killed and refitted it to my size. I'm fighting with a board, that makes 20.

You also shouldn't have been able to just 'refit it', should have at least required a roll and some money spent. You are BY FAR the richest in the party, plate armor is over 1k in value, and 20AC is VERY high, though doable even at level 1 with the right class features. Magic items are... generally not meant to just be 'sold' in 5e, but that's a GM thing so whatever, but respect the fact that you are way better off than probably anyone else in the party unless they ended up with horribly OP gear from the shop.

Not to mention being able to buy actual magical items instead of just potions. Having 1.8K at level 3. Like, I know it's whatever lets you have fun, but he's going to have to pull some neat tricks to balance future encounters. If he has the DMG I think there's a table showing what the average party wealth should be at that point, and how many treasure troves the party should reasonably encounter per tier.
I've been playing Fallout 4 and I came up with an idea for a post-apocalyptic Only War campaign, where the PCs are members of what remains of the PDF/local IG garrison on a world that god fucked good and hard by Chaos, and their mission is to either get off world or call for help. Survival elements abound, chaos warped creatures mixed with a combination of traitor guard who stayed behind to garrison the world/have murder orgies with what's left of the population. One of these days I'll actually play a game with one of the scenarios I've come up with. :saddowns:
Generally the rule goes if you kill an NPC you can't take their weapons or armor as they'd be damaged or the wrong fit for you.
That's pretty silly. Although refitting human sized armor to fit a dwarf is pretty ridiculous, if you're about the right size it generally shouldn't be too difficult. And the vast majority of weapons are really damn sturdy, weapons that are damaged in any significant way should be a minority unless there's good reason for it to be. Like, say, someone threw a fireball in the room and melted the fuck out of everything. Or a troll smashed your helmet in.

Speaking of armor, what should my endgoal be for armor on my unarmed adept in shadowrun? Like the best armor I can see that isn't restrictive would be FBA wouldn't it? Also what should I put on an armored vest while holding out for the 20 avail chemsealed FBA?
The purpose isn't for immersion, it's so you can throw human knights or whoever at the party without having to worry about them looting all the armor and weapons to sell in town.
Why bar people from grabbing loot? Remember they have to actually carry all of it. If a player is being too much of a hoarder, just start making them track their weight, and make them explain how they're actually carrying everything around. Plus a few steel swords and axes aren't that much. Like, what, 15gp for a longsword, so 3g if they sell at 1/5 buying price.
The purpose isn't for immersion, it's so you can throw human knights or whoever at the party without having to worry about them looting all the armor and weapons to sell in town.
But it doesn't make sense though. Saying "oh nah nah man it was actually broken the entire time and you can't fix it for no reason" is literally a cop out. It's weak as fuck.
Also I'm pretty sure if they're not selling it to a fence, the town guard would probably like to know where all that bloodstained armor came from.
Speaking of armor, what should my endgoal be for armor on my unarmed adept in shadowrun? Like the best armor I can see that isn't restrictive would be FBA wouldn't it?
Yeah, that's about as good as it gets if you want to avoid restrictive armor. SWAT Armor in R&G has the same armor rating, but it has the Gear Access feature which is pretty useful, and adds a +2 to intimidate, +3 when wireless is on. Assuming you're not planning to use a shield, then besides the obvious +3 armor from a helmet, you could add the forearm guards on page 73 of R&G which give +1 armor. Presumably you have at least 4 strength so you won't get encumbered by it.

It's weak as fuck.
I think it falls under the rule of never throwing enemies with gear the players might want to take, then not expecting them to take it. End of the day, though, that's the GM's call. And just speaking from personal experience, I've never had a game that didn't end up with the party hitting massively above their weight due to gear and cool artifacts and the like, so it's not like that's a bad thing so long as there isn't a huge gap between them
Also I'm pretty sure if they're not selling it to a fence, the town guard would probably like to know where all that bloodstained armor came from.
This, not only that but any smith will also be able to recognize that if you come in with a suit of plate that has punctures/dents/blood on it and also is a size category higher than the person wanting it remade that the original owners' friends might be on the lookout for their killer. This could lead to some interesting bits where the party has to bribe the smithy, or find one that's out of the way/shady. I don't see anything wrong with a player getting a particular item a couple levels before they really should, as long as it's in a way that's clever for the player and/or expands the world in some way.
Heavy milspec.
Restrictive.

That sounds like reasonable risk for the reward.
