Just my luck that an interesting group I find doesn't match up with my timezone, then. Time to keep looking.
I took the 50-dollar a year plan, seemed reasonable to me, I can always cancel it if I'm no longer DMing.
Even if you aren't DMing and you're a player, the DM can still use the features as long as you are playing

I think you have to actually be the initial host of the game for that to be the case. It certainly isn't true for me.

Last I tried it, you have to create the game for your subscription features to be available in that game, but you can make someone else GM and join as a player (though you'll always retain the ability to become GM of the game).
Hey guys, does anyone have any soundtrack suggestions for a game that'd be a sword and sandal-y mixture of Greek and Chinese mythology? So far I've got a bunch of Korean pulp films, Assassin's Creed 1, and Jade Empire.

What kind of music are you looking for? Ambient, battle themes, or just anything?

Anything would be a great help! I'm also just looking to build up my library of tunes, so feel free to post anything that you like to use.

Well, off the top of my head, the Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China OST has a bunch of tracks that would be good in a Chinese-inspired setting.

For dramatic Greek music, the God of War 1 OST (and those of the other games as well, for that matter) are pretty solid imo.
Speaking of ambiance, anyone have any good Industrial tracks they can share?
I recently built up a setting and it's based on Industrial Revolution London, but all my ambient music is pipes and violins and shit.

This might just be me, but the theme of the Sisters of Battle faction in Dawn of War 1 seems to fit such a setting- though it depends on exactly what sort of feel you're going for with it.
Other than that, I would suggest the AC Syndicate OST, but it's clear that you already have enough pipe and violin music.
How do play-by-posts/email work? my friend is getting deployed next year and im considering doing something like that to keep him same, but i don't get how the pacing would work or anything like that.

This should pretty much go without saying, but they are very, very, very slow.
You shouldn't worry too much about pacing because you really can't pace that kind of game. Just try to have interesting things going on for players to react to.

By pipe and violin I meant ye olde fantasy woodlands music, I'll have a listen to the AC soundtrack and see if it fits, cheers.
Merry crit miss

Have you tried Arcanum OST?

Sure, more violins and pipes, but it's a classic.
While we're on the topic of music, anybody have anything that would be fitting for [sp]a literal parade of ghosts[/sp]?
Spoiler b/c Antary/Elowin/Trogdor are players and they don't know it's coming.
[sp]I want something that's simultaneously like 'oh hey there's a parade yay' while also being 'oh shit this is bad' but I don't know if such a thing exists. If I can't find something that works, I'll probably just stick with DESCRIPTIONS.[/sp]
Also, on an unrelated note, I recently learned that a live performance by one of my favorite bands, sans vocals, makes for a good boss theme.

Why must it be so hard to find a good group on Roll20? I found a group that looks good, and the DM claims to have DM'd for 20+ years. They're playing an Icewind Dale campaign of sorts. But there were so many applicants that it makes applying really discouraging. I applied anyway, but I feel like I'm not going to get in.

Not that many people openly advertise on roll20 directly, and there's a good chance that a bunch of the games are being filtered out by your choices (like seriously whats up with all these games being hosted on /weekdays/)

I'm limiting my search to D&D 5e and Voice or Video+Voice Only. Most of these games are either a group of players looking for a DM, a single player looking for a DM + other players, or they fall on some weird time during the weekday, as you mentioned.
[editline]25th December 2015[/editline]
Also, what's with these games that are like 20+ players large?
Everyone looks for a GM! That's the job people don't want to do, so the easiest way to find a group is to be a GM.
The 20+ player groups are either groups that have a revolving door and have people coming in and leaving constantly and not being removed, have LOTS of spectators, or just the 'room' gets reused for tons of games and the GM doesn't clear the player list for whatever reason.

[sp]Try some of the stuff from the Killing Floor summer events, most of them are pretty theme parky/carnival with a creepy twist. Start here.[/sp]

I try to save GMing duties for obscure games that no one else would want to GM.
I'm sure to find one person that'd GM DnD, but I'm unlikely to find a sucker that'd GM Metabarons or something

I was going to suggest this too, especially the City and Tarant tracks, except that he said he already had tonnes of violins and that's pretty much all the Arcanum tracks.

Merry Christmas, y'all. I looted this off of Santa.
The slots on the top are for dropping dice on either the DM side or player side.
shwank
Just joined my first Roll20 game. Very much looking forwards to the first session.
Got the 5e Player's Manual and Dungeon Master guide for christmas, nothing like the smell of fresh RPG books in the morning.

I would kill a man for a place to buy this.
Played a bit of 5e with my brother, cousin, and his gf. Was pretty fun. Brother rolled up a Tiefling Warlock, cousin was a Dragonborn Sorcerer, and his gf was a Half-Orc Barbarian.
I basically had them run around town doing festival activities. My brother and cousin entered into a coliseum match and my brother ended up walking out the victor. Then he tried to hit on a halfling waitress but didn't hit it off too well when he called her a bitch.
Lots of fun was had.
