Catapults were used on ships historically, although not as commonly as ballistae or rams. Obviously not talking about trebuchets or anything here though, but smaller catauplts like onagers are perfectly viable as ship weapons to be used against larger vessels. Their firing arc is not nearly as high as a trebuchet, they can easily fit on the deck of a decently sized ship, and have a fair bit more destructive force than ballistae can supply. Lobbing fireballs is also viable, but given the setting apparently lacks gunpowder I doubt bombs are going to be a thing, unless they have magical bombs or something.
He could make an ass pull akin to the green napalm thing from Game of Thrones if it's so necessary.
Or something like alchemist's fire, if it's any standard D&D derivative setting
In this week's episode of Dungeonball Z, a druid invites the part on a suicide mission, they say no at first but then get talked into thinking it's a good idea by a paladin called Skelton, giggle at his name, get surprised that he has +20 diplomacy when he armed a militia in two days and talked the party into doing a suicide mission for free. Everyone goes to the shadow [sp]realm[/sp] plane, sets fire to the only known way out because of plot reasons, and then get baited into an ambush by ghosts with shiny objects.
So it was the last night of my campaign, the players are a high elf and deep gnome rogue, and a warlock who tanks because he wanted to. I had them come across this friendly gnome merchant who spoke with the warlock while the two rogues snuck around in the forest nearby. It was guarded by 3 really intimidating guards, a dwarf with an 8 shot revolving matchlock, a dragonborn with a maul, and a human with two pistols on his chest and a saber. It was all going nice and friendly until the deep gnome rogue saw the 8 shot and decided to attack them because he wanted it for himself. As the fight ended, the human and dragonborn were killed, but the dwarf and gnome escaped via teleportation, and they got shit all cause the gnome was actually a counterfeit merchant who sold cheap and broken items, claiming theyre something magical or rare. If that wasnt dickish enough of them, they then decided to keelhaul a captain of a sailboat. This captain was an old, selfless charity worker who was on the way to deliver kittens to orphans in another province. They made an illusion of one of the cats exploding, giving him a heart attack. They then scooped out his eyes with spoons, cut off his dick, and keelhauled him under the ship where he was eaten halfway through by a massive shark. Also funny thing is, before the merchant came along they managed to avoid a fight through negotiation and said that they should do that more often. Yeah, that didn't last long. :v
People on /tg/ were misinterpreting Demon: The Descent/the God-Machine in CofD as cosmic horror stuff that belongs in Call of Cthulhu. I went on a rant.
Demons are cosmic horrors in the same way Werewolves are cosmic horrors: They're not. They're terrifying to look at, and you probably won't remember what they actually looked like 100% correctly after all's said and done, but they aren't in any way cosmic. The God-Machine might qualify as cosmic, if only because it has cults/angels all over the planet, but even it isn't technically a cosmic horror. You will never see the God-Machine, because it's not a character, and may not even be a physical thing. The God-Machine is a narrative force that serves to motivate the PCs and NPCs to act. Just like God never did anything himself in WoD, the God-Machine never does anything itself in CofD. It acts through Angels and Stigmatic cultists. Viewing the God-Machine as a single entity is like viewing the KGB or CIA as a single entity. Neither of them is singular; they're an entire collective of enemy agents, whose group you(as a Demon) used to belong to. Now, you've defected to the other side, and for all you know anybody around you could be working for the other side; that gas station you go to every day could, in fact, be sending info to an Agent outside the city on, who uses that info to try and find possible recruits in your neighborhood. Whether you allow them to be recruited, recruit them yourselves, or take out the gas station is the real question; you could be killing completely innocent people, but on the other hand you could be saving hundreds more in the long run. The God-Machine is not a cosmic horror. It's a spy agency.
And now, I really wanna run a Demon game, again. But the group I'm currently running a game for consists of 2 people who don't like the idea of Demon at all, and one guy who isn't at all familiar with the CofD system afaik, and I don't wanna try and run 2 games at once. :why:
Decided to play a game where I'd be intentionally vague about my backstory and conceal personal information. As part of my one mastubatory RP indulgence for this session I told the party to form into a specific rank (Paladin on the Left to witness, Party on the right) before convicting the bound Mage we'd defeated of using 'perverse magic' (sacrifices, summoning a Spectator) and then brutally mutilating and executing him. I'm playing a Half Orc so that sort of thing apparently isn't weird, but I name dropped the city I was from as part of the 'last rights' and sort of cryptically told people who asked me about it to check the map we have. Really enjoying this group so far.
Or something like alchemist's fire, if it's any standard D&D derivative setting
That's a rad idea as well. Instead of a vial, the mixture is within the projectile's shaft. It would shatter on impact and potentially cause a fire.
Just played my first session of DnD yesterday. One of us is already murdered by our own party after his evil plan to kill my character failed, and our pet wolf has lost both its front legs. This game is amazing

It's both, there's a few other games that do the samething, Eclipse Phase has some of the same themes if you're playing a Firewall focused game.
Anyone here ever hear of Kuro? My local hobby shop is sadly closing, and they had a 50% off everything sale the other day, as I went to checkout, the owner gave me a copy of the rulebook for free, cause someone took it out of their cart last minute, and he didn't want to find where it was original to put it back :v: The fluff and crunch both look pretty good, I might throw a pitch out here later for a party, but the short version is, Cyberpunk Toyko survives an accidental nuke launch due to some sort of divine intervention, the world powers think it's some sort of hidden super weapon, and so blockade the country off from the outside world. The year is 2046, and in isolated Japan, ancient occult spirits are starting to come back into the world. Really interesting stuff, I can PM people a .pdf version I found for Appy last night if anyone wants it

can you play wizards and are they rad this is the most important factor
Just wiped out 63 mooks in a single attack Turns out that massed armies of magical armor constructs ain't got shit when they're in a tight-packed column up against someone who can cause massive explosions of lightning
I hope my players hate me as much as I hate myself for this dungeon design.
can you play wizards and are they rad this is the most important factor
Yes, and instead of just magic, they use the power of ancient spirits and shit, I'd say that's p rad. Also you can combine that with tech skills and be a techno wizard.
Today in my Exalted game: Antary got suplexed by his mom after a tearful goodbye, because they felt like she needed to be more of a badass. Also they fuck off out of Great Forks and start heading towards the Hundred Kingdoms to take down an empire Elowin made up with Lore rolls.
Yes, and instead of just magic, they use the power of ancient spirits and shit, I'd say that's p rad. Also you can combine that with tech skills and be a techno wizard.
Doesn't really seem like player characters can have any significant supernatural powers or anything, as far as I can tell. Really like the cyberpunk Tokyo setting otherwise, but lack of rad wizards is a huge turn off.
In the Star Wars Roleplaying Game, critical hits do direct damage to wound points rather than doubling any damage. Because of this, a friend and I just one shot a boss at extreme difficulty by us both nat 20ing on an imploder and a rocket launcher :v:

So I'm working on a custom race for 5e because why not. I've already written out the racial traits, that I quite like, so I'm moving onto their general description. I want the race to appear mostly feminine in appearance and voice, but all be [sp]hermaphroditic[/sp]. Should I just drop this in as a one-sentence thing? I don't want it to come off as super weird or fetishistic.
Is that Saga edition or Edge of the Empire/Age of Rebellion/Force and Destiny?
The FFG star wars games don't use d20, so it's Saga.
On that topic I already have something in the store and it's in the top ten race sourcebooks :toot:
What race?
What race?
Baraani, one I made a while back for a personal pathfinder project. Ported it and made some stuff to go with it I should note that getting in the top ten only requires like 4 purchases
This is what I currently have at the moment. Obviously still working things out. [t]http://i.imgur.com/HjqrOCY.jpg[/t] oc do not steal plz [editline]19th January 2016[/editline] I kind of want to work in the Message cantrip for them, as well as increase their base walking speed to 35 feet. But I'm not sure if that would make them silly OP or not.
:v: it's kind of fetishistic eh it's not op to give them a faster move speed i mean dragonborne have a freakin free laser and humans have feats i suppose you can do what the humans do and have a sub-race kind of thing where they trade one of their attributes for speed

I want to come up with a couple of subraces though, but I'm not sure what exactly I want to do with them.
