Mission 03 transferred over very well to HWRM, if nothing else. Holy fuck what an amazing mission.
And today is the day I learn that I suck ass at Homeworld MP In about 5 separate games I died every single time. :v:
And today is the day I learn that I'm an idiot Early on in one of the cutscenes S'jet says "chased by 2 races" and I was like what? Only now after many years of loving homeworld have i realized that turanic raiders and taiidan are not part of the same race :suicide:
Taiidan confirmed for Ukraine also, CUZ THIS IS FUCKING FAIR RIGHT
While I don't regret the purchase, the reviews for this game have been terrible. I still haven't seen a single review mentioning any of the issues that have been discussed here.

I doubt they'd know about the issues. Also in others news holy shit I had enough money for HW Remasterd. I can't wait to play it, even if it's somewhat problematic. I just haven't been able to play in 4 years because my disk broke.

It's like Planetary Annihilation vs. Supreme Commander: close, but not close enough.
So i've been hearing some disturbing rumors lately. Apparently you can only play as the filthy Kushans in the singleplayer campaign, and not as the glorious Taiidan. Sombody please tell me it's not true and that it's just a cruel joke.

Even booted up classic and there it is... but for some reason I can't for the life of me remember playing Taiidan in campaign.
You were only ever able to play Kushan in campaign mode. At the same time I kinda wish they kept that in and made you able to play the game as all 4 races just because why not. :v:

Looks like Gearbox is listening to some of the HW1R problems, but they'll have to "evaluate the feasibility of making and implementing changes in future updates", so don't get your hopes up. Right now it's all about fixing critical bugs for the team.
Prior to 1998, Taiidan were going to be the cannon race. When units were redesigned, they swapped it so the Kushan were the cannon race. It's why Taiidan units have a rougher appearance. With the redesign though, they figured it was a better look for a galactic empire, for reasons of the Taiidan stuff looking more menacing. Before the first patch, half the missions said Kushan for the enemy, regardless of you playing them. Play unpatched Homeworld, in mission 4, Fleet Intel will say Kushan where he should say Taiidan.

A lot of the issues at the moment are easily fixable (and Gearbox has said they'll be continuing work on the game) and fairly small, biggest thing probably being formations or strikecraft behavior. On the whole so far, it's still a pretty well done remaster.
I'm on the Cathedral mission and I can't find the other two capital ships? This is annoying.
They'll fly over to the Prison ship/ Khat-toba sister ship across the map once the first ship is defeated. Before that, they're in a triangle around the Mothership.

The Kushan ships could be seen as authoritarian and "boring" designs, with the rounded grey shapes and general uniformity, and the Taiidan more a tribal and angry look, like what a people who survived on a desert planet may design. They're still iconic in their roles and I prefer the Kushan being the protagonists, but it's easy to see how the Taiidan designs could fit as the protagonist race too.
I'd always heard that each race was designed by a team told that they were designing the protagonists so that there wouldn't be an 'obviously evil decor with spikes and shit' faction, but I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't true. Taiidan scout is an excellent design either way.
So THAT'S why the Homeworld manual had a Taiidan scout on Kharak, despite being an in-character Kushan field manual.
It also explains the "docked" Taiidan scout of the last mission (or the previous one) cutscene and the Heavy Corvette at the end cutscene, althought I always considered them as captured ships.
best part about taiidani designs are the stripes they make any craft sexy as fuck
It's frustrating because it's not a bad game, it's just not what I was hoping for. It's like Planetary Annihilation vs. Supreme Commander: close, but not close enough.
I was actually gonna make a similar comparison. IDK about supcom, but I know in Total Annihilation there was detailed terrain and higher elevations actually affected your units, so even having units on a steep hill would give them an advantage, while the enemy would have trouble hitting them because of the physics, while PA doesn't really have that. Homeworld 1 vs 2 is kind of a similar case, since it had a ballistics system and dogfights were influenced by the formation, tactics (how well they could focus fire) and the direction you attacked from (at least for bigger ships) Without those features i think it kinda lessens the importance of 3D movement somewhat EDIT: I filed a support ticket thingy yesterday with a suggestion for formations describing how they are useful https://gearboxsoftware.zendesk.com/home I suggest if you haven't already do the same, more people requesting HW1 stuff doesn't hurt especially since they seem to be listening
I really like this "Historical Roundels" pack. [t]http://i.imgur.com/Dmjc3qa.jpg[/t]
You haven't truly played homeworld until you've done this at least once [t]http://i.imgur.com/gipKfPM.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/5XNNybG.png[/t] As for formations, i know HW2 is rng, but couldn't they fake a lot of things to simulate it? Like those fighter squads in HW2, they seem fine - couldn't they do some sort of dynamic strike group where you can add units to them, then upon selecting a formation they transform into a homeworld 2-style strike group? From there you could fake other things too, like damage and accuracy bonuses, or even have bonuses to damage depending on which side of the ship they are attacking
Someone have been able to capture a Kadeshi Swarm/Advanced Swarm? My salvage corvettes couldn't grab them for some unknown reason. Same happened with the Turanic Carrier. Also I noticed a strange "issue" that I don't remember from HW1: At the Cathedral of Kadesh mission, if you attack the "2nd" needleship (behind down at left of the mothership) that is actually the third one, it will become invincible once it reaches 1/8 of their health, and it will not stop until you destroy the other one.
While I don't regret the purchase, the reviews for this game have been terrible. I still haven't seen a single review mentioning any of the issues that have been discussed here.
This is exactly what I meant when I was asking about how familiar TB was with Homeworld. Most people probably didn't play the first game enough to really be familiar with how fundamentally different the two are. For better or worse, TB (and reviewers) are completely ignorant of how the HW2 engine changed everything, so when you're reading reviews they're from a more casual perspective. That sounded so much more elitist than I wanted it to.
This is pretty much it, yeah. On the whole so far, it's still a pretty well done remaster.
If they were easily fixable, they would have been fixed a long time ago. Things like the physics based bullets, combat flight AI, and formations are core and fundamental parts of the engine. Those are not things you can just change. How damage gets calculated and applied, hit detection, code for ship movement, it all would have to be completely rewritten and if not done carefully would have a dramatic effect on the tight balance of Homeworld 2. I don't know how they can do formations. I'm hoping they can use the HW2 build in system to somehow create new units on the fly and put them in formations, or something. For the projectile physics, it's never going to happen, but a good alternative would be a much more nuanced RNG system that takes into account distance and relative speeds. With such a system you could very closely emulate the way that HW1 ships fought. Theoretically, to the point of making it near indistinguishable.
One of my main gripes is strike-craft not holding formation when they should, ie when set to aggressive or escort. Managed correctly, a couple of groups of interceptors and one group of bombers would be a very powerful asset but now that their formations disintegrate instantly and their tactics barely seem to make a difference, their utility is diminished massively.
I find the fact this is even the reality i live in kind of weird. So glad they've re-released Homeworld and are making it so moddable. This whole new sci fi boner the gaming world has recently is the best thing ever and I couldn't be more excited.

Stuff like physics and formations are big things I hope (but have no delusions) of them eventually fixing somehow.
