Some official gearbox statements on HW:R, key highlights for me were:
- HW1 has no more fuel management, tho it's still gonna be important for Kadesh
- HW1 research no longer increases in speed as you build more research ships: "Now, in line with Homeworld 2, Homeworld Remastered instead focuses on cost, or RUs (resource units). The more vessels you have, the faster you can get RUs." - not completely sure what that means, I assume reduced research cost?
- using HW1 formations in HW2 confers certain bonuses. Not sure how that's gonna work if strikecraft break up their formations tho unless they've managed to get that working somehow.
- modders helped out with multiplayer modes/functions.
Also TotalBiscuit dropped an ominous "Preview of the Homeworld video tomorrow. This is one of the best remastered games that has ever been done. You'll see why".
No fuel is a bummer but expected I suppose. I interpreted the research craft thing as that they generate a certain amount of RU per second. Seems kinda odd though, since can't you upgrade your research speed in HW2? Hope it doesn't affect the singleplayer but it probably will.
I don't mind the lack of fuel on player ships, really. It never struck me as something to need to pay attention to (unless I stole Kadeshi fighters) so it didn't really impact gameplay too much, except for making support frigates slightly more useful.
According to this thread, modders are already planning to add fuel for the new Complex Mod (aka Rebirth), so looks like fuel mods will hit sooner rather than later.
I really hope they managed to get fighters to keep formation. It would be great to have stuff like sphere with the ships surrounding a resource controller acting as sentry-style defenders again

Really? I always found fuel was a big issue with sending strikecraft to attack long distance targets unless i sent a support frigate with them
Also, we should form a FP homeworld group and get some games going for multiplay
Absolutely loved Homeworld but I never got around to playing Homeworld 2. Pretty decent opportunity to remedy this I guess.

This is a good idea.

Seconded. This is the first time in a very long time that I've been inclined to preorder a game.
Star Citizen doesn't count, that's a dream that I threw some money at hoping that it sticks.
I've never heard of Homeworld untill Gearbox picked up the title and remade the first and second game in the series.
They sound/look interesting and fun as fuck. I've been craving space games lately.
Is it possible to make your own ship designs? As in, you take something like a base frigate ship and decide yourself what weapons/parts it has?
I've known about it for a few years, and I've always been quite interested in it but didn't get it because it was pretty old.
I'm certainly gonna buy this if it's good (95% it is, but I'm not going to pre-order just in case)
I think the closest thing to that kind of customization is building modules on some of your HW2 ships that allows them to cloak, hyperjump, produce ships, access better sensors, that kind of stuff. But nothing designing your own ships.
In fact, some of the existing ships are designed around being vulnerable from certain angles, rewarding you for using the full 3D spectrum of movement for attacking ships from below or above for example.
Homeworld: Cataclysm has your main ship upgrading throughout the campaign by building modules but there's no real ship-designing
too bad Cataclysm is not getting the remastering treatment (yet?)

Alright, alright, don't panic. We can make mods to restore that.

You will love the R.E.A.R.M. mod then.

conflicting information, but I suppose a gearbox source is more reliable in this

I suspect the reason fuel was in the game was to force players to invest in a certain minimum force size before being able to attack enemies, sort of like a built-in no-rush timer. It also created exploitable weakpoints in the supply line and helped slow the game down a bit because holy shit Homeworld gets hectic. If Relic's later games (Company of Heroes 1 & 2, Dawn of War 2) are any indication, that is exactly what happened (manifesting instead as base defenses that kill all early game units with ease and being able to cut off resource production through strategic moves).
a video of TB:

The resource collectors look much better now. Formations still don't work. Sound is too quiet to tell what they did with it, but I'm really worried about losing a lot of the HW1 sound effects.
No fuel is a real bummer but it's great that modders are on the case.

Launch trailer. The music choice is kind of poor.
Really bad music choice for the trailer, holy christ.
I don't think that the Yes song works well either though, I never thought it fit the game as a whole on top of that.
As for the trailer, should've just used any number of spacey middle eastern songs from the games.
Really bad music choice for the trailer, holy christ.
I thought it was alright.
Sounded really generic to me, same for the editing of the footage. Didn't really give the trailer character or brought across that of the games imo.
eh, forgettable.
That trailer in general was really lousily slapped together but who cares. Game's marketing is pretty much fans that are squealing about how great it's going to be anyway

The effects for them look a lot like updated classic homeworld effects now, they are actually really cool looking.
As for the sounds, i'm sure somebody will make a mod for them sooner or later. I'm more curious if perhaps modders could somehow figure out how to get ships to hold formation as they fight.
why do the system requirements say 20 gb when the preload says 7
why do the system requirements say 20 gb when the preload says 7
Decompression.
And also, I think the way pre-loading works is that it lets you partially download bits of the game and then it downloads the rest when it's out? I'm not 100%.
Preload says 4.6 gb to me. HYPE TO MAX.
Also apparently over 100k Homeworld remastered pre-sales were sold!

More like
Randy Pitchford take note. The game is doing well because it isn't shit.
Aaaand now it's back to #1 on the steam top sellers.
Yay for Homeworld.
Woo Homeworld
Now get those cataclysm guys on board, Randy...
